  1. Haha you’re tellin me! He’s a “has to be right” kind of person; not open to outside opinions or, you know, actual facts.
  2. On today’s soapbox: Am I the only one who thinks the shipping containers on Tryon are horrendous? First, why Tryon and not Church? Second, shipping containers aren’t exactly what I’d call “inviting” compared to the conventional covered (and open) scaffolding. I’m sure those shipping containers will be saunas in the summer sun. Speaking of which, I’m assuming these will be around for the RNC on our city’s most prominent street right in the heart of the arts district. Where will the protestors stand now? It’s hard to picket in a shipping container!
  3. Twice in as many weeks I’ve received poor perspectives about Charlotte from Coastal Virginia natives. My hair stylist had to confirm the “NC” when I said I was from Charlotte. Then went on to say that she had been here twice in the past but wasn’t impressed. Then, when discussing crime in Norfolk, a man cited Charlotte as having “burned down” during the Keith Scott riots. I set him straight, but then he went on to say that maybe I should move back before I bring more crime with me. The Keith Scott incident was very poorly publicized outside of Charlotte. Apparently all anyone here saw on the news was the blocking of the interstate, a car on fire, and break-ins (loosely) linked to the protests. I guess their anchors assumed it was a city wide issue as that’s how it was pitched to the public. “Charlotte On Fire.” Then they all moved on to the next event the media wanted to exaggerate for ratings. The real story barely made national news. I mean, sure the homicide rate has spiked in Mecklenburg this year; but I generally don’t picture Charlotte as being a violent city compared to her peers. Hopefully new leadership reins it in.
  4. One potential factor is that the gradual relocation of Family Dollar to Chesapeake (and subsequent constant commutes between the two cities) helped spiked flights for most of 2018 and up until August 2019. Now that their move is complete, I expect the ORF-CLT to be far less routinely packed, hub withstanding.
  5. Buffalo is 0-3 during the postseason. Either way, somebody is going to win their first Bowl game.
  6. While on a local level a CLT-App game would be awesome. I’d rather see a rivalry develop with NC State or another SEC/ACC team to help the program get more recognition on a national level. I’d love to see a day when Charlotte earns a place in one of the Power 5 conferences.
  7. From the overtly pretentious rooftop bar at Le Meridien, CityLights Rooftop. $7 for a bottle of OMB Copper... never again
  8. Bowl eligible and lookin like a 7-5 finish if this game keeps up. That’s after a 2-5 start. Here’s hoping a bowl invite will come somewhat locally. Where ya at now, @monsoon?
  9. A few shots from Uptown’s forgotten park and forgotten 4 star hotel. Had planned on staying at the Kimpton, but Le Meridien had a ridiculous rate for this week. Figured the view would be worth it too. Was not disappointed.
  10. One item of note. In the far left of this picture, you can see that they paved a brand new surface lot on one of the blocks. A full block. Complete with non-temporary light posts. What in the actual hell?
  11. Smitty suited up one last time. Also, got to watch a little crane porn all game long.
  12. New $9.5mil police station approved for the site of the current DMV next to the fire station and IHOP. New Chick-fil-A (re)location opened on the 3rd at the former site of the suntrust on Harris to make room for the future office building. https://universitycitypartners.org/coming-soon-in-university-city/
  13. It’s my understanding that it will go where the current parking lot is. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. In a touch of irony, I got my wish today. Heard through the grapevine, and then fact checked with a trusted source, that the large parking lot next to Dollar Tree HQ is being replaced by a parking deck. Braking ground Q4, timeline of 1 year to complete. Should be “exact size” of other current deck. “All Dollar Tree” so it would be a surprise if this included any semblance of ground retail or residences.
  15. Seriously! I mean, trying to create an urban landscape is great; but not if you’re going to pave parking lots. Build another garage and use all those parking lots for more buildings with some street presence; otherwise this is just going to be another office park.
  16. Man, that rendering of the new office tower going up is incredibly underwhelming compared to previous renderings... Thanks, VE
  17. But, let’s be honest here, why are they keeping it? It’s gotta be a joke. Somebody is reading this thread and getting a hell of a kick out of all the comments related to it. That or KJ bribed the foreman.
  18. Where have you seen this information? I’d love for it to be true as I have the same sentiments about the warehouse. Also, construction update on the second office tower and wee bit of the apartments are visible here too.
  19. Okay. Let’s make this clear, I’m not for a new stadium. I love BoA Stadium. It’s definitely one of my favorites. I’ve sat in just about every section over the last twenty-five years. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. Is it on par with the newest, shiniest, billboardiest? No; at least not in the same way. I once heard Eagles fans complaining before a game about how the admission process is awful. I can’t argue there; there aren’t enough gates for sure. But that’s it. Now, as far as how Tepper is going about this. He’s doing well to keep away from strong-arming so far. He’s suggesting hotel and rental car taxes get raised to help fund the stadium. That’s doable; Charlotte definitely has much lower rates on those than most peer cities. That would not directly impact residents as a whole. Another source could be raising property taxes within the loop. Would this be enough to pay that off? Nope, bonds would have to be paid on over time. State level, that money is a drop in the bucket through bonds. There is a tourism fund for these types of things. This won’t take away from other programs. This state spends money on ornate bridges to nowhere and claims the ornamentation as a tourism draw. Would this impact publicly supported museums and such? Absolutely. But when was the last time Charlotte got a state-funded facility like that? Again, not for it; but let’s wait to see how this all plays out before we turn on Tepper.
  20. Ya’ll, I can’t. I guess Spectrum likes DEC1 so much they wanted it on there twice...
  21. No. Just no. Take it from a guy who drives in/around a reduced conflict intersection almost daily. While they are pretty good at moving traffic, they are about as far from pedestrian friendly as you can get. Which, I’m sorry, should be a top priority for University City. Make an alternate route to get to Harrisburg south of 49. Do not destroy the area’s ability to grow organically. Also, RCI’s have about as much pavement as a Walmart parking lot. Also, I’m happy to see the lake getting proper development; I just wish they could’ve shown the multiphase master plan. Or at least I hope that isn’t it.
  22. Close. It would be 4 playoff victories (technically you wouldn’t have to get in as a wildcard spot; but, again, insanely improbable; the math is sound,) 0 regular season losses, and 16 regular season ties. So a regular season record of 0-0-16 and a playoff record of 4-0-0. For example. The Panthers 2014 regular season record was 7-8-1, and their playoff record was 1-1-0. So, their overall record came out to a fairly improbable 8-9-1. That said; it’s amazing the mutterings that can come to form after a few Coppers.
  23. I was gonna say, oh ye of little faith. Remember, in the not-so-distant past, the season the panthers made it into the divisional round of the playoffs after going 7-8-1? In theory, a team could not win a single regular season game and still make the playoffs. 0-0-16 is still a .500 record. In practice, the most improbable record possible, even if you were trying and every game was rigged; but there is still that microscopic sliver of a chance. All this jabbering leads me to my ‘19-‘20 prediction: 19-0 or 4-0-16
