What ever happened to the CATS HQ? Wasn’t it supposed to go around here somewhere?

Legacy Union (former Charlotte Observer redevelopment)
AuLukey replied to Missmylab4's topic in Charlotte
I’m not so worried about the dethroning of BOACC. Is the Chrysler Tower in NYC any less grand than it was before? Sure it doesn’t stand out as much in the skyline anymore, but it is still considered an icon. That said, it isn’t going to happen in this cycle. SunBBT is not going to dethrone BOACC. Building a huge building would only set off red flags in ATL and WS as they promised to keep jobs there. Maybe down the line after they slowly, and quietly, move jobs here into various buildings in and around Uptown. Duke, while the largest utility in the world by certain measures, is under a magnifying glass for a myriad of controversies. The world (or at least the media) would set on fire if they built a superstructure. Honestly, I would love a darker-colored twin of the Devon Energy Tower in OKC. Just short enough not to raise as many questions; but would still stand out as an icon and not “dethrone BOACC” -

OFF TOPIC ALERT: Actually, Virginia Beach is in the largest metro in VA. It is part of the Hampton Roads metro which includes a gaggle of cities: Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, and Williamsburg (along with a few smaller towns.) It’s baffling how spread out the metro is, it is actually the largest metro between the Triangle and DC. However, as a result, they have the same issue as Raleigh: too many central cores. Each city has a core but only Norfolk has a true traditional “downtown.” Virginia Beach’s core, where the aforementioned Westin building is located, is a master-planned development on steroids. If people used to complain about Uptown Charlotte being too sterile, they should go to Virginia Beach’s core; IMHO it’s disgusting how clean and planned-out everything is. And that’s my bit of knowledge I chose to share today. (Note: I only know all this because I’m being relocated to the area next month.) -
Probably incredibly grainy on bigger screens. Taken from Concourse E

IMO LU’s awkward proportions actually makes Uptown look shorter. It’s so stumpy it makes it look much shorter and, by association, throws off the rest of the skyline. I’m glad that LU2 should cover up a good chunk of this angle. -
Yup. I got my C’s crossed in my previous post. Good catch.

You just made my night. I’m pleasantly shocked. That is, unless you meant to write that with blue colored font.

When you are away from the thread for three days and see a notification that says “105 new posts...in 509 S Tryon” and you get all excited. Then you find a thread almost entirely about skyline comparisons... I love the first mock-up of the tower. Almost wish I hadn’t seen it. I would love for uptown to have a prominent rounded building. Honestly, and I know this won’t happen because of the address, I hope that the office tower goes along College instead of Tryon. Kind of like how Hearst is on College away from BOACC. Duke will lose some of its grandeur if it is basically smack up against DEC, only to be blocked from 25-50% of skyline angles.

The crew at Bohemian could’ve built twenty B Towers in the time it took these two shafts to rise.

Yea but the saints have nothing to play for on Sunday. They have the head-to-head tie breaker over the Rams for the #1 seed. The panthers could potentially win and save at least some face. Some.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Stories is “reporting” that the toll lanes are opening early... *facepalm* http:// https://www.charlottestories.com/i-77-toll-lanes-now-set-to-open-ahead-of-schedule/

Two different perspectives, courtesy of my father and yours truly -
Omg. If William Carter really does teach at The University of Florida, then he should not be thrown off by the median location. There are dozens of these on the turnpikes in Florida. They make so much more sense. Instead of having two smaller, less safe (security concerns,) rest-stops, there’s a single one that encourages more foot traffic and better maintenance.

Even knowing this was in Uptown, I was still incredibly caught off guard. Annoyed to find out yesterday was the last day. If we had known that we would’ve gone for a ride. Why can’t we keep nice things in Uptown?

Pictures don’t do justice just how massive these steel beams really are in person. You’d think they were for a tower three times as tall.

*facepalm* forgot he was out for the year. Well at least there’s that.

Guys our chance at the division title went up in smoke when the Saints beat the Rams and then picked up Dez. I’ll settle for the wildcard spot this year. Playoffs four years in a row? Please and thank you. Depending on how the Vikings finish, I’m predicting the NFC South 3 make it again.

First Ward Urban Village / North Tryon Vision Plan

Ugh. More Charlotte beige -
Yea you guys just progressed through my entire thought process. 1. Glass box=Apple Store 2. Wait, it’s too small 3. Could be underground! 4. Naw KJ’s photos don’t show any digging there so that’s not the case. 5. Damn

Haha I feel like I saw a plan JUST like that about ten-fifteen years ago. Traffic circle at Harris and Tryon and all. Which clearly can’t happen. This plan is obviously pre-BLE conception.

This tower definitely has a mini me. The Westin at Virginia Beach Town Center. Not awful but the pyramid is much better proportioned. -
Perception of Charlotte Nationwide
AuLukey replied to CarolinaDaydreamin's topic in Charlotte Coffee House
FWIW, while on vacation in S Florida/Keys this past week I made it a point to never say the words “North Carolina” when asked where I was from. Not one person batted an eye when I said I was from Charlotte. The most common response was either to do with having a house in NC or not having been to NC in a few months. So, South Floridians know their geography at the very least.
