Thanks for posting that....I was actually checking out their other projects in other cities last week, and I was getting nervous about the design. While this won't win any awards, it is far better than I was expecting. No retail though :(

  • 2 weeks later...

I noticed that Blvd Centro is no longer the agent requesting the rezoning of the corner of West Blvd and Camden. The company now listed as the agent is Conformity Corp.....anyone know what is planned for the site?

A little off topic...I was in the WPEG Power 98 broadcasting studio tonight (as well as every other CBS radio network). I had no idea they are in the offices above Carrabbas. Thoroughly impressed with the building and the layout of the radio stations - a perfect example of street level interaction with office space.

Well...since you asked.....

That would depend on how much more of the block you acquire.

As it stands now, I would go with a modern loft style building fronting Kingston....4-5 stories is enough, just so that a roof-top deck would clear Phase II of Park Ave. Plaza. I know I've posted this picture before, but I think this is another appropriate spot for this design.

Another building at Camden and West whould be about 5-stories and more traditional, though not so staid as say, the Harris, Murr & Vermillion (now -Harris) office at Park and Camden. Maybe something along the lines of this place in DC (without the silly party hat)

Parking access unfortunately would have to be off of Camden, but it would allow some covered parkig under the rear of the two buildings.

Sigh.....as a continuation of my crappy architecture thread, I present to you "Ashton South End"...the official name for Hanover's 11-story apt. project at the corner of Tremont and Hawkins (across from where Camden dead ends)

This wouldn't be so bad if:

1. It didn't follow the same basic theme of every other mid-rise in the entire city.

2. The rest of Hanover's buildings outside of Charlotte didn't look so much better.

3. There wasn't a giant car plaza fronting Tremont.

I grade it: C+ (assuming the corner of Tremont and Hawkins really does include retail)
