Are any units going to be set aside as affordable? That is what we need more of in this city. The one or two projects that give happytalk about including workforce housing is not enough. We need an ordinance that requires it in some cases like Davidson has.

I would support such an ordinance. Our units start in the $170's.

Well it's good to know that some developers think it would be a good idea :) I know you can't compare the two places and I am not saying that every single high end development needs to have affordable units set aside. I am not that much of a Socialist  The larger mixed used developments such as Morningside would be goods fits for this, it would be targeted to help residents in gentrifying neighborhoods stay in their homes. Anyhow, the transformation along South in a few years will be quite striking. With this project and Scaleybark Village among others there is a great opportunity to turn this stretch into a pedestrian friendly walkable corridor, extending what is already working now from Tremont&South downward

That's not actually a bad price considering how crazy expensive things have gotten elsewhere. Kudos to you for not charging everything the market would bear plus 20% like the Boulevard Co. and Crosland. Those guys make me crazy with their pricing strategy. Furman does a good job of pricing, I've never seen any of his stuff Uptown last more than a few weeks before being 90% sold out.

you will be able to visit well known coffee, burger, and ice cream joints on site in the mixed use component at the corner

looking in my crystal ball........mmmmmmmmmm..........Starbucks..............Five Guys.............Cold Stone...............

just my guess. None have a presence in South End yet.

Ok, perhaps a deep breath is needed?

Conformity, it is tricky business, I'm sure, to be a developer in the know on a lot of things that people on here either leak or speculate. Thanks for trying to wade through it, to bring us a perspective that we don't always get here.

Most everyone takes posts on here with a grain of salt, and assume it is speculation, opinion, or guesses. So since I'm sure there are valid business reasons to remain secretive on the potential deals, I'm sure it put you in a tight spot to read it. Obviously, the best choice would be to use PM to convince him to change. But anyway, I hope it doesn't disrupt your actual business.

But, I guess the good come with the bad on web forums.

I'm glad its not going to be a Burger King! :)

Great attempt at levity ... too bad it got squashed.

There is a strip mall on Hwy 150 near Lake Norman where you can experience them all. Sounds like this place is going to have about as much character.

As much as everyone of us love a local and unique retailer, reality intervenes - we can respond with civility.

I thought it was rather civil. I would have put it more bluntly.

God I hope a Starbucks doesn't get built there. There is already one not two miles away on East Blvd.

:(

I don't see how opening a Starbucks there makes any sense at all. Seeing as how Java Passage opened in The Village at Southend not too long ago. Distance never seems to be a problem for Starbucks though. They seem to feed off each other. There are three in very close proximity in downtown Charleston. And of course they are across the street from each other in some locations in New York.

I just don't want to see South End turn into another generic collection of chains and franchises. Are there seriously people who live in South End who want yet another Starbucks in the area?

i feel ya... but, the truth is - as busy as starbucks on east usually is.... i would say "yes" to answer your question. when enough people quit buying their coffee, then we will see a slow down in the # of starbucks opening. of course, i would LOVE to see more indy coffee shops in this area.

Well there is one no more than 100 yards from where this new Starbucks is rumored to be going...
