Well, as far as this poll is concerned, I think all of the cities here are more or less in the same league except Knoxville, Lexington, and maybe Raleigh (which, in any case, is certainly closer to being in the same league as the remaining cities). So, as far as this poll is concerned, I would define "mid-sized" as those cities having urbanized areas between 650,000-1 million residents. Including Raleigh, the range would be 500,000-1 million.

I agree 100%, It looks like another "See my bigger city beat your smaller" Poll. Everyone knew that Charlotte would win this one ...again. and where was Tampa. I am going to start a thread for the best skyline in the Triangle area...Just to see Raleigh win against Fuquay-Varina.LOL

Actually Charlotte is only marginally bigger than Nashville...at least it isn't like New York vs. Charlotte or something.

I've been through Louisville. It is a respectable skyline. I am more amazed at how absoluely pathetic Phoenix skyline is compared to its population. No matter what angle you see, it just looks small.

I have little respect for that list anyway. For one thing, Kansas City may have buildings but WHERE? Certainly not up that high in the list, not even in the top 20.

The MOST amazing thing is how high Myrtle Beach is. It is ahead of Louisville, Omaha, Phoenix, San Diego, and others. I've been to Myrtle Beach many, many times. We were there in June. It has highrises but hardly ahead of Louisville or Omaha or especially San Diego.

Whoever said that Charlotte, NC could possible compete with Atlanta's skyline must be crazy. Atlanta's skyline is so much bigger. Just Buckhead's skyline is bigger than Charlotte's. There is no way you can compare Charlotte's skyline with Atlanta's. Charlotte's skyline is 30+ years behind Atlanta's. Atlanta has one of the best skylines of any city. The two cities just don't compare in anything. Charlotte's skyline is a joke to Atlanta's  .

^^ The person who said that obviously hadn't been to Atlanta and/ or Miami or hadn't seen any updated pics of both cities. I do agree that Charlotte can definitely compete with the cities in the poll (with Nashville close behind it), it would compare more appropriately with buckhead or midtown Atlanta (though Charlotte has nicer architecture than buckhead). Out of the cities I

I'd been to, I think Louisville impressed me the most.

That list ranks cities according to the number of towers those cities have over a certain height; that says nothing about the quality of architecture, variety of architecture, or vertical impressiveness of those skylines. I mean, even DC gets a mention, and it really doesn't even have a skyline (in the traditional sense). And Myrtle Beach ranked above Winston-Salem in this ranking, but there's no way I could rationally argue that it belongs on this poll, unless we were talking about residential skylines for some residents and transients. I don't care what that Emporis ranking says, there's no way Winston-Salem has a better skyline than San Diego or Los Angeles has a better skyline than Boston or Seattle (especially with respect to population).

I have to agree. While Winston-Salem's skyline is nice, it's definitely not better than that of San Diego.

I also love Boston's skyline and urban density.

1.Duval county is much bigger. Of davidson's 502 sq mi. only like 300 are inhabitable. If you were to make Davidson the same as Duval you would have to add Williamson at least. If you did this Nasvhille would be ahead and growing faster.

2. Are you saying the Nashville government is wrong? I would rather have the local governments oppinion than anyone else. :D

No offense, but that land you are talking about is very inhibitable. Just look at Birmingham, b/c in your terms most of Birmingham is uninhibtable. Those hills and ridges in NW Davidson County can be easily leveled and graded to developable leves like developers have done in Birmingham.

easily be leveled? apparently you haven't seen north nashville. there would be nothing easy about that. it would be costly, time consuming and most importantly horrible for the environment and the community in that area.
