IN PROGRESS: The Residences at The Westin

Recommended Posts

They were pouring the slab on the floor of the ground level retail spot on the corner when we were there (well not quite pouring, they were assembling the rebar).

Flemings will be at the back of the building, the corner of Francis and Memorial. The corner of Francis and Exchange still does not have a lease. The cigar bar will be along the driveway side.

What's the cigar bar?

great quote and information...

The 200-room expansion of the Westin should make the hotel the third largest city hotel in New England at 564 rooms, said Sam Guedouar, general manager of the Westin. And with that kind of size, they’re starting to chase mid-size conventions that are seeking a single hotel, and have until now been forced to choose Boston or one of the Connecticut casinos.

“We’re going after Boston business now,” he said.

The demand for the rooms is there, Guedouar said. The new tower is booked for events in August and September.

“As soon as they come online, they’re taken right away. There is demand,” he said.

i think it's great that this would put us in more direct competition with boston for large conventions.

I heard a rumor that the cigar bar will be called Cigar Masters and its related to a bar by the same name on Boylston St. in Boston. Local architects will be designing the the bar.

That's no rumor, definate. It's going to be located along the inside wall, along the valet circle.

My bf, sister and I went hiking at Moose Hill in Walpole (?), 23 miles north, north east of downtown Providence. I could see the Providence skyline with the new Westin from there, although hazy. It was a nice day and a pleasant hike, not challenging at all!

here I outlined the bldgs:

i was downtown today and noticed that they were taking apart the construction elevator.

btw- TPG must be paying some serious overtime for the construction crews which are basically working around the clock and on a sunday on a holiday weekend!

They must be near completion since this project is to be completed in June according to news reports.

I was thinking the same thing. But they do have a contractual deadline to meet, which we've talked about before. It seemed like those guys worked from 6am - 10pm almost every day. :shok: Now, onto the W! :yahoo:

the deadline is only for the hotel portion. the condos will not be ready for june. i was surprised to see the elevators coming down because the top floors look like they still need a lot of work. maybe they've got something internal that they're using though. i didn't expect to see the elevators come down until after the crane came down. although, from the look on the webcam, they want to get the windows and facade in where the elevators were.

i've seen people there long after 10... even after midnight.

They've been working pretty much round the clock since the outset. I've seen them hoisting things up with the crane and bright lights at the top at 1-2 in the morning.

they have the grates in covering the parking garage, I am not sure if I am a huge fan of them. Anyone else see them yet?

Yes I saw them yesterday as well. I agree, I never thought too much about them in the renderings however I was not impressed when I saw them on the building. :dontknow:
