Has anyone heard opening plans for Platform?
It looks like it’s almost finished

I haven't noticed any work on the Platform in months. It doesn't look like tenant build-outs have started, although multiple tenants were announced earlier this year. Has anyone heard anything about tenants backing out or when build-outs will start?

Views from the rail trail side of The Platform which is on South Blvd across from the Lidl development site. I really like the large patio space they created with connection to the rail trail. This should help to draw people further down the rail trail - I feel like currently there isn't much of a reason to continue walking south past New Bern.

Hopefully this sparks some redevelopment of the sites on South Blvd across from Greystone (the Lamp Place, former Nadeau Furniture store, Citgo gas station). Those places are all closed off to the rail trail and hopefully any new development would connect them. There were plans in early 2020 for the Citgo to be replaced with an Aloft Hotel, but that was disrupted by Covid.

Looks like KW recently began marketing 3100 & 3108 South Blvd. The sites are currently home to the Lamp Place and Be Happy (previously Nadeau Furniture).  The lots are 1-acre combined. Hopefully whatever eventually gets built connects the new building(s) to the rail trail.

Wasn't a hotel supposed to go there?  I guess that fell through?

Different address, just the gas station.  But nothing since prior to the pandemic came up with this article so tough to say it's status.  Likely no news is good news

well this does not sound good.  Lidl news.       Das ist überhaupt nicht gut!

""Lidl’s long-planned South End store is mired in several court actions seeking payment for nearly $5.5 million in construction-related costs.

The shell of the store is in place at 3229 South Blvd.

General contractor Westmoreland Builders has filed for a lien of nearly $3.85 million plus interest, costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees against Lidl U.S. Operations. The complaint in Mecklenburg County Superior Court states the matter arises from materials, labor and equipment provided on the South Boulevard store.

The filing states Lidl failed to make “undisputed payments” as well as failed to issue payments on change orders. “Instead of issuing payment as required pursuant to the contract, (Lidl) terminated the contract with (Westmoreland) by Notice of Intent to Terminate Contractor for Cause on March 30,” it reads.

Westmoreland in its filing disputes the termination for cause. The filing states Lidl has failed to fully pay Westmoreland for labor, materials and equipment provided.

Lidl has filed a motion to discharge that case. It says the lien amount exceeds what Westmoreland claims to be owed under the contract. That motion also states the new lien was filed more than 180 days after the “last furnishing of labor or materials at the site of improvement.” It indicates the filing period has expired.

Lidl did not respond to multiple requests for comment.""
