ctrl + alt + del was, in fact, not invented in NC but Florida.

EXCELLENT CATCH!  Here's the correction from the March 5, 2018 News and Observer.

image.thumb.png.5e47cd9f40fcc349dd4b62bf7391d811.png

Raleigh N&O excerpt "Turns out the iconic computer reboot command ctrl+alt+delete wasn’t invented in Research Triangle Park as the state advertised.  But its inventor did move to RTP about 15 years later, if that counts.  The inventor, David Bradley, is well-known in computer history for his pioneering role as well as for his ctrl+alt+del invention, which he says was a solution to a problem that took about five minutes to figure out.  Bradley followed IBM to RTP in the mid-1990s, where he worked until he retired in 2004. He also taught at N.C. State University.  Reached by email on Monday, Bradley confirmed he invented the command in 1981 in Boca Raton, FL. "

They kind of have a point. Our role in flight was geography. Not intellectual capital.  Everything was designed and built in Ohio. We just had wind.

All true (though we had wind and the dunes).  But it really doesn't matter at this point.  Nationally, it's what we are known for and most of these things are kind of silly anyway.  Those plates are great though and should not change.  It's a top 5 plate (only Colorado is inarguably better, IMO).

Looks like Apple has chosen Austin for their big expansion. FWIW, I never thought we could land this, but I thought the Triangle had a chance.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/12/13/18139009/apple-billion-dollar-austin-campus-us-expansion

In essence this is just an expansion of their current operations in Austin....probably cheaper for them in the long run

Not exactly..   15k jobs 1 billion investment.  yes its close to their current and synergies I'm sure played a part but its big.

NC left out in the cold other then data center expansion to what they already have in the foothills

5000 jobs and could possibly grow to 15,000. Important to note they have 6200 employees in Austin already.  I think it more of going with what you know https://www.statesman.com/news/20181213/apple-plans-new-1-billion-austin-campus-5000-more-jobs   I thing I noticed it says the average salary in Austin is $58,000 which sounds like a lot more customer service jobs (in the facility they have now)

Though this would have been fantastic for the Triangle  but NC and the Triangle are doing fine with lots of bread and butter expansion.  Home grown Pendo in Raleigh is adding 590 jobs there and the overall the state added 109,000 jobs in 2018 and should add 120,000 in 2019 (see my post in Good news)

The worst part of the announcement was that  Apple also announced:

Quote

The company also announced plans to establish new sites in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City and expand in cities across the United States including Pittsburgh, New York and Boulder, Colorado over the next three years

This was a serious middle finger to NC (CBJ Said  ‘Apple snubs NC’ in its headline). Multiple sources are suggesting that we are not as done with HB2 as we thought we were:

From this morning’s Business NC email update:

Quote

Several state business leaders in recent weeks told me they were worried that Apple CEO Tim Cook remained wary of North Carolina's tolerance for diversity after the HB2 debate. He's a Duke graduate who knows lots about our state.

Given that Apple was looking for a suburban office park setup (what we do best) and we couldn’t land it this bodes poorly for attracting any socially aware company.
