Hey Zahc, that's a very inspired composition! It's an abstract composition and representation of San Francisco architechture. The large antebellum (former library) in the front, the huge and boring contempory in the middle and the dense stack of a mixture of sizes and styles and vintages. Only the recent glass towers are missing. The photograph reminds me almost of a Diebenkorn painting.

This is a most beautiful picture of my single most favorite building in the city. I used to have a studio in a cottage that was the wash-house of this building at 347 Dolores Street, formerly a school for girls. Also this building reminds me a lot of another beautiful city: Charleston.

Yes, I do remember when Notre Dame Plaza housed artist studios, and artists opened their doors (Open Studios) every October for the general public. That now seems like an life-time ago...
