CONSTRUCTION THREAD: Aloft by W Hotel

Since it's been confirmed by Starwood, figured we might as well start a construction thread for Aloft. The location will be around the airport, though not sure of the exact spot. We have a thread for Aloft in the Coffee House, but that was started when this was speculation. We now know it's been confirmed, so may be jumping the gun here, but we should have a construction thread. Greenville is in the first batch of 50 confirmed worldwide. :yahoo:

Just noticed, after I posted here this morning, g-man read and posted mid day on another site. He also e-mailed the person on the press release. They e-mailed him back and gave the address as The Parkway, but then said it was at Greenville Mall. Per everything I hear, it is near GSP, so The Parkway would make sense.

G-Mann sent me the e-mail he received, here it is.

*Jacob,*

*KC Kavanagh forwarded your inquiry to me and the address is aloft

Greenville Airport; 4341 Parkway East at the Parkway*

* *

*The site is actually at the Greenville Mall which is very close to the TBB

I-Car Research Center which will generate both domestic and international

automotive related business travelers.*

*Please let me know if you require any further information. *

*Thank you *

I heard from a good source that it will not be in Magnolia Park. Starwood has other brands that are looking in other areas of the city.

Th address that Starwood gave for Aloft would put it right by Michelin headquarters. Look at the map from Mapquest below. This makes more sense to me as Aloft hotels are tending toward freestanding properties and not as part of developments.

This makes more sense. It sounds like the person who responded to g-man was confused about that being near the Greenville Mall/Magnolia Park site. The fact that the address is on The Parkway, coupled with the "GSP Int'l Airport" description, suggests that it will truly be near Michelin. And that makes a lot of sense.

I am very curious to hear which Starwood brand could be looking elsewhere in Greenville. The Starwood umbrella includes Sheraton, Four Points Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, Aloft by W, Le Meridien, and St. Regis...

Are we ready for a W Hotel? If not, a new Sheraton would be nice. Perhaps they did indeed replace the Sheraton on The Parkway with Aloft, with plans to put the Sheraton elsewhere (Magnolia Park, McChesney Project, downtown, etc.).

Maybe so.

I'm OK without a Sheraton though, since we have Westin, and Sheraton is a rung down the Starwood ladder from Westin. After Aloft and Element open, the next hotels I would like to see here are not from Starwood. I'd love to see a Doubletree (and there is a pretty hot rumor on that) and I'd love to see a Loews.

I think with everything coming online, we'll be seeing a lot of new hotel construction. Having JHM based here doesn't hurt either. :)

I thought this was weird. The State reported Greenville as the site of one of Starwood's new Aloft hotels. The title of the article reads: "Greenville to get Aloft hotel by Starwood". At the end of the article, it mentions that Charleston will also be getting one. Kind of like: "oh yea and no big deal, but Charleston is too..."
