Quite possibly one of the busiest intersections in the state, the pinnacle of Columbia's strength to outsiders (capital centre), and the state house right there; it just bothers the he!! out of me.

I wonder what the guy who owns them (he's a former city councilman--Jim Papada is his name, I think?) plans to do with them. They're too valuable to sit empty for too much longer. Both parcels developed together could really make for a great "Gateway to the Vista."

He's sitting on the land. He knows that someone is going to pay a crapload of money for those sites, which have prime access to everything and will put the last piece in place for connecting Main St to the Vista.

I can't say that I blame him. It actually might work to the benefit of the city that he's doing that, as expectations for those sites will be higher in the future with all of the development going on downtown.

I saw some work going on inside the vacant space between the Flying Saucer and Monterey's on Park St. I think it used to be some kind of oyster place. Does anyone know what's going on there, I didn't see any signs.

I'm waiting to see something being built from the ground up in the Vista. I don't think we'll have to wait too long to see something (hotels, parking garage, the lofts, etc.).

One of the hotels is to begin construction in August, and the other in September. I'm referring to the one at Huger and Lady and the one on Huger near I-126.

The Battery at Arsenal Hill has a new website--much better than the old one. I think this development will give us a foretaste as to how the Bull Street development will blend into its surroundings.

How is this selling? From what I've tracked on the listings -- assuming they're keeping them up to date -- it ain't exactly flying off the shelves. But we know they've sold that *one*, I guess.

On another note... the old Heart of Columbia site is up for sale... $9.7 mil. Any takers??? Let's brainstorm... what would you guys like to see go in there?

$9.7 mil, wow! That plot can't be more than 2 or 3 acres. At that price it will have to be something close to the Vista's height limit - a hotel or condos probably.

I thought that site was going to be part of Innovista. At any rate, it would be nice to see an aloft hotel go there, but with so many hotels planned/going up already, I think another one at this point might oversaturate the market. Same goes for condos.

^ I'm pretty sure that block is not part of Innovista. That is quite a price tag for the lot, but I guess that's what you pay for prime real estate. I wonder if anything will happen to IHOP when they sell this land, I'd like to see it go (moved into an existing building or street level space in a parking garage).
