:wacko: This is very disturbing: http://www2.wspa.com...upp-ar-3355191/

The SC Republican Party of Laurens County requires that if you want to join their party and be on the ballot, you must:

-Never have had pre-marital sex

-Be faithful to your spouse, and your spouse cannot be a person of the same gender

-Promise to never look at porn again

Glad to see at least the SC Republican Party doesn't hold the same opinion as these idiots in Laurens County: http://www.wyff4.com/news/30618080/detail.html

I do not think the Laurens County Republican Party is a group of idiots. The Party is reemphasizing its conservative beliefs that have been ignored by higher levels of its hierachy and discourage psuedo-Republicans.

The South Carolina Republican Party has harbored liberal Democrats who switched political affiliations to retain their offices.

Sherriff Ricky Chastain was elected in 2000 as a Democrat, then switched to the Republican Party in 2004. Chastain faces Don Reynolds in the Republican primary on June 12.

McConnnell to take the Lt. Governorship and resign his senate seat.

Speculation is that he is doing so in anticipation of a vacancy in the Governor's office.

New Senate President Pro Tem & new Senate Judiciary Chairman will now need to be picked. Filling those vacancies will also lead to more postions opening up.

Haley will have lots of challengers in 2014 regardless, if she makes it that far. Curtis Loftis is chief among them. Haley is very unpopular and has been an abject failure. She will never be elected statewide again. She may not complete her current term either.

Hugh Leatherman and Harvey Peeler are two names that have been mentioned for President Pro Tem job. Technically, it could be anyboby in the GOP, and it will be a HUGE power play.

My guess is McConnell will try to add power to the Lt. Governorship. His appeal statewide is somewhat limited, but he is from Charleston, so he has a big strength there. He if cannot make the office more powerful, he may not run for Lt. Gov. but Governor instead, would be my guess.

I'm sure there will be a big field running for his senate seat since it hasn't been open since 1980.

There had been some speculation that Glenn McConnell would run for the seat he just vacated, and then regain his seniority.

Today he announced he will not run to return to the senate as a member.

Will McConnell be Governor soon?

As for McConnell's seat...

Former Charleston City Councilman Paul Tinkler is the first candidate to announce that he will file for the vacant S.C. Senate District 41 seat.

Tinkler, a Democrat, said he will run even if Republican Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell enters the race.

“I think Glenn has done an excellent job,” Tinkler said. “I just think I would bring a fresh perspective.”

A lawyer with 34 years experience, Tinkler said he is interested in correcting faults in the state’s legal system and working on state-municipal issues, such as annexation.

I've heard a lot of the same rumors, including that Haley might be indicted in the next few weeks. The possibility of a Governor McConnell is looking more and more likely. And that scares the crap out of me. I sincerely hope that the rumors I've heard are wrong.

In this case the word rape means despoil. Despoil means to strip of possessions. That's what Bain did. Maybe the people getting hung up on semantics are the ignorant ones. And Clyburn one-upped the President on same-sex marriage. That makes SC look smart.

I'll take Clyburn over a 6 pack of bobblehead Fox News wingnuts any day.

The McConnell seat is really weird, they just had a primary to pick a GOP nominee for the SPECIAL election, and they are getting ready to do the same for the regular election. But the same candidates weren't run in both. Paul Thurmond is running for the regular election GOP nomination. I have to think he has the edge, but there are other candidates. A Democrat is running to, who I believe is/was a Charleston city councilman. But with all the ballot screwups, even I can't keep up with it any more.

This has been one meessed up election cycle.

Why settle for bobblehead wingnuts or a bobblehead like Clyburn. Why not demand better? Neither are good in my book.

Clyburn is the eptitome of the dumb, uneducated, hand out "gimme, gimme" victim mentality type politician. And for God's sake, could he PLEASE learn how to pronounce words in English?

Completely agreed. No politician is perfect, but as for Clyburn, I'm impressed with her personal life, his commitment to education, and his contributions to his district.

Interesting. I'm really hoping the Charleston city councilman really has a shot; someone with a grasp on urban issues needs to wield some influence in the Statehouse.

I have been very frustrated with this issue. I don't think it reflects poorly on South Carolina at all. Any state or any business for that matter is susceptible to this type of crime. What does reflect poorly on our state is Gov. Haley's handling of the situation. I feel like she is bumbling through it. We need to place the highest priority on security of private data. I blame it on not hiring better nerds to do the job. Even though that ultimately falls to her responsibility, Id' be interested to know what Sanford's data security policy was. Maybe he set a precedent of cheaping out on these things.
