Do we know yet what is going to replace this demolished building?

This is one of those buildings that I have always hated!!!  A monolithic block of foreboding concrete designed to keep all out, similar to the old Charlotte Observer building!  I cannot wait to see the resurrection of this site.

Big kudos to the demo crew here. It’s been a fast demo in my eyes and they have done a spectacular job separating the scrap metal and such. Low dust, just overall a solid job. Hope the library demo goes just as quickly.

As far as the new project on this site, anyway they can connect with the underground existing exhibit hall to make it larger/continuous?

It is not planning to connect as most of this site is for private developer and the convention authority did keep some for a convention hotel.

Nucor happy with all this raw material. Nucor is a Charlotte company built on recycled steel.

Yes or the Gerdau mill on Old Statesville but that mangled steel will be reused for sure.

A tweet from CLT Dev below.  I’ve heard someone mention they would be possibly looking into two 500 room hotels vs one big 1k one. Utilizing the old data center and the lot next to nhof. Not concrete but a potential option

Yes, quoting myself lol but from the most recent post from KJH in the south end high rise thread confirms what I heard a long time ago. This option has been on the table for awhile and hopefully comes to fruition. That lot next to NHOF would do wonders for that intersection if developed.

It sounds like now the Convention and Visitors Bureau is pursuing the 2-400 room hotel options instead of one big 800-1000 room hotel that would require a lot of subsidy.  There are so many brands missing from uptown Charlotte right now in terms of upscale brands like W,  Curio by Hilton, Four Seasons,  Conrad by HIlton, Signia etc.    And Hyatt why is there no Hyatt in uptown or Southend??? I am talking a full service Hyatt hotel not their Places, Houses etc.

Hyatt regency would be good to see, they generally pair with convention centers. We might get Conrad to compete with the JW.

We'll probably never see a Four Seasons... but then again Baltimore has one.

I know you’re a big Hilton guy KJH but Hyatts, hands down, have the best credit card redemption points for their hotels including international stays. I’m rooting for a Hyatt regency/Grand or similar personally uptown.

*On the same note, always thought the office tower at the nascar hall of fame should have been a hotel vs office tower too.
