"Duke Energy ...  said in a release that Berlin-based Millennium Venture Capital is buying its 401 South College Street building next to the Charlotte Convention Center.  According to Duke, the College Street site will become a mixed-use development with office, retail and hotel space along with luxury apartments."

No plan has been filed, demolishing the building was a contingency on the sale. The site did get a rezoning last calendar year to restablish the ROW in relationship to the Light Rail and to allow active uses on that side of the building. A Sketch Plan is in the works, per one of my sources, and the goal is to build Office, Multifamily and Hospitality (the city owns a small sliver of this property, that they received in a landswap and plans a hotel)

Is there still (or could there potentially be in the near future) the desire to expand the convention center?  This would be the perfect opportunity to add a few thousand square feet of contingent floor space that many were talking about the center needing a couple years back.  A decent bump out of the floor could be done while still leaving space for street retail and a modest lobby for office/hotel/residential.

there is a sliver of this cleared parcel retained by CRVA to allow for a high rise hotel.  This was done in the land swap deal that CRVA did with the private deeveloper.  

Speaking of conventions there was one inside the convention center a medical related one and there was some kind of convention at the Hilton involving gaskets and bearings so 2 different meetings going on today.  This is how you drive higher hotel occupancy.
