The city has future projects on the horizon, he said, including West Washington Street, Hudson Street near the new city park, Augusta Road from East Augusta Place to Jones Avenue, Laurens Road from East Washington to Antrim Drive, along with three residential groups projects in Morningdale/Avondale, Meyers Drive and Mt. Vista Avenue.

As part of the announcement last month, Duke released an independent economic analysis that determined the effort would require rate increases that would bring in $530 million more a year by 2026. 

The rate increase would have to be approved by the South Carolina Public Service Commission. Duke has yet to ask for the increase but has already requested one for a similar initiative in North Carolina.    

In North Carolina, Duke plans to invest $13 billion and asked government approval for a 16.7 percent increase for residential customers and 10.9 percent for commercial and industrial customers. The increase would raise a household's monthly bill by nearly $20 a month.

This area of town is going to be interesting to watch as the new park moves forward. The new development and redevelopment in this area currently is barely scratching the surface.

FYI: That hideous set of utility poles in Cleveland Park was erected for the Big Dig and will be removed upon completion.

I'm all for the West Washington burial, however seems like other places might be higher priority.  The lines on  River Street and crossing over Main to Augusta should have been done years ago.   But take what we can get.
