I took the wife to the Spice of Life tonight and was Terrible! We never got to eat and ended up leaving. The table beside us had a party of 18 and they had been there for over 3 hours and their food finally came wrong and cold. They want be in business long.

It appears that the site of the old Bruegger's Bagels next to Starbucks on Pine St is finally being filled. As I drove into town this morning, I noticed work being done and a sign for Honey Baked Ham Cafe on the facade.

The new restaurant that will be opening downtown in the Hub-Bub building will be called "Zarza". They're hiring now. I just noticed a Facebook event about it.

Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse is planning to open in the former Hops building on Blackstock Road. They recently opened a restaurant with the same name in Columbia.

Does anyone know whatever happened to Bull Hogs BBQ? They were supposed to open up on Pine St last year...

Bull Hawgs BBQ did open on Pine Street last year. Several people said good things about the place in the paper during the holiday season. I know the owner, but I haven't actually been there since the move (I'd better visit sometime).

Their website seems to only have the menu link active.

Bull Hogs has been open a doing very well on S. Pine St. They are located just before Billy D's.

Work has begun on Monsoon Noodle House. I went by today and the walls are all studded up and appear to be in the exacr location as before. I hope they push this ohe through quickly, we used to eat there at least twice a month.

Wow I must be going blind. When I'm in town I almost always drive down Pine St. Not sure how I missed it!

The HJ reports that Monsoon Noodle House will reopen this spring. That's great news for downtown. Now if we can just get some of those other vacant buildings filled up...

I'm so excited about Monsoon coming back. It's great that the Lime Leaf owners are partnering with them to open back up.

Also, I had dinner at Zarza the other day and loved the food and service. I had a steak while my wife had grilled pork chops and both were very good.

Brickhouse Pizzeria is under new ownership for the second time in 2 years. I do hope these guys improve the food. It was very lackluster under the recent ownership (The pizza was good years ago with the original owners at Sonny's).

The City of Spartanburg just posted an interesting link on Facebook. Couture Closets consignment shop (in the old Justin's Steakhouse / bank building) is moving to another location downtown to make room for a new restaurant in their current space! Can't wait for more details!

I'd like to see it become something other than an 'upscale' restaurant. That location has proven to be unsuccessful over the years for that type of place. I'd like to see whatever it is embrace the "bank" theme somehow.

Since my wife had been on the west coast for the past 2 weeks and Valentines Day was coming up we decided to splurge and hit Zarza before the art show at Hub Bub last weekend. Man I can't tell you how bad the food was and it wasn't just me. Two other friends of mine were there and said the same thing. One even complained to management about how he ordered veal and was brough stew beef. They said the cook had messed up and the guy goes "I thought you had a chef". This was followed by an extremely lame excuse. Anyway we got all tapas and out of 4 only 1 was any good at all. I won't be back for a good while because if you're gonna drop $60 you have to get something good in return. If I had known this was gonna be the case, I'd have gone to Greenville.

Thats dissapointing news! I have heard from several people that it was very good. I haven't been yet but I intend to go soon. I hope it was an off night, but this type restaurant shouldn't have an off night!!

Sorry to hear about your experience Sparklman... I've been for supper and lunch and the food was outstanding both times. My dessert wasn't that great, but I don't need it anyway...

Its just depressing that its not consistant and for the price they are charging it should be.

The rumor I heard is that it will be a casual restaurant; possibly a regional chain. I would love to see a Taco Boy or Carolina Ale House. Maybe this time the location will succeed.

I think that's the nature of someone who just opens a restaurant because it's their "dream" rather than having experience in the restaurant industry. Larger cities have a pool of chefs that are always looking for new concepts to try. Spartanburg certainly has a pool of them, but I think there is more room for people with no experience to give it a shot.

That being said, does it function at all like a wine bar? My understanding was the wine bar was the key feature of that place.
