i just don't understood why people would ask why did the whaler's move? its been answered on previous posts. why attendence figures so mediocre, because its not the same. seeing the paw sox play is not the same as seeing the redsox play or the columbus clippers vs. seeing the yankees.

Not to mention the Providence Bruins Vs seeing the Boston Bruins come to town. It's almost depressing to even think about going to a Wolfpack game....

Ok. Let's see if I have this straight. The former owner of the Hartford Wailers left town because business was bad and the attendance numbers were down, so he left town. So Hartford got themselves an AHL team, and as of last season they are averaging 5045 a game. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/globe.asp?c=g...-attendance.htm

So what's the question now concerning attracting an NHL team?????

Get it through your head!!! Nobody here wants minor league hockey. The Whaler's consistently had high attendance numbers, despite having many losing seasons WHY? Because they where major league and the people of Hartford and CT loved the team. I honestly read your post in disbelief. We don't want to be small time like Providence. You guys can keep the ahl in your city, we don't want it in ours!!!

Once we've easten steak, we don't want hamburger, it's as simple as that. After having the Boston Bruins roll into town every year, it just isn't exciting for us to go to see the Providence Bruins. No one cares if Joe Shmoe #5 might potentially one day have a cup of coffee with the Rangers. There is a huge difference in AHL play and NHL play, after having even the Whalers, the AHL just won't cut it here. It doesn't help that it's a Rangers affiliate. Think of moving the Pats and getting a Jets affiliated Arena team. The rest of your facts are horrible, please read back to our other Whalers threads to correct your erroneous impressions...

Well Said!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because someone asks a question doesn't mean you have to respond with an attack on their city.

Gee, you wonder why you have to explain the Whalers leaving so often, kinda like how I wonder why I have to explain that it's not OK to attack people for asking a question all the time.

I don't think we attacked a city, we just made a comparison. The Providence Bruins are not on the level of the Boston Bruins, I don't think that's a swipe, it's just reality. I used to use the Wilkes-Barre/Pittsburgh comparison, but I thought Boston/Providence more appropriate due to the cities involved.

I could be wrong, but I believe this Frankie guy has asked the same question in the past, I almost feel as though he is trying to rub something in and be a smart ass.

He has asked the question before and he was trying to provoke Whaler fans/Hartfordians. It's blatantly obvious. Why else would he have asked the same exact question that was answered months ago.

We don't care about the Wolf Pack's attendance because we don't care about the Wolfpack - simple as that.

Sounds like an instigater to me...

The Whalers (please note the correct spelling) left Hartford for the simple fact that an outsider bought the team and wanted them out of Connecticut. It couldn't be an more simple. They were gone the day they were sold.

If Gottesdiener bought the Pens and moved them to Hartford, it would be the same type of scenario.

Pens would find whale of a welcome in Hartford

Interesting article from the Pittsburgh Tribune. Looks like Hartford people are the top two bidders.

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...s/s_463240.html

They most definitely would find a whale of a welcome... I wonder if Fingold could be convinced to bring them to Hartford if his bid wins. That is if they are even able to move out of Pittsburgh.

Now that's a good article. That just goes to show how much having 2 Hartford guys so close in the running can do to boost our profile. I think our profile has officially been boosted and that the NHL now knows that Hartford is dead serious about getting the Whalers back. So, I would say this is a great first step, even if we don't land the Pens.

The smart thing would be for the two to combime their bids. They both wuld have half the risk. And they would have have double the horsepower making the state build a new arena.

The thing is the league favors smaller investor groups. Also, Fiengold seems like he's not interested in bringing them here so he's not on the right page.

Well I guese it's still not a sure thing, even if Larry wins the bid. Although if the casino license doesn't pan out for Pittsburgh, I'll be the first in line to buy a Whaler's ticket. :D:yahoo:

Fingold is an egomaniac and would never team up with anybody. He's also been trashing the Mayor and has said he has no interest in bringing them to Hartford. In fact, he thinks the city should spend it'smoney on crime and schools instead of a hockey team. I just wonder if he's told the same thing to the cities of Pittsburgh and Kansas City. My initial guess would be a resounding no, giving him zero credibility in my book....

Frankie is one f those insecure Providence posters who comes to our board from time to time.

The NHL thing will play out over time. This is still one of the strongest locations in the country for a team. It may not meet MadVald's time table but if jobs and population keep coming to the city, AND IF Hartford builds an rena, then it's inevitible someone will move herre.

I'm realistic, brother. I understand that this was a missed opportunity, but I know Larry G isn't a quiter. I'm in it for the long haul....

The main thing is Larry tried, which is more than I can say for a lot of people. I bet their will be some southern teams that Larry will be looking at pretty soon. As for Fingiold, SCREW HIM!!!

Fingold is a traitor. his business is here....he lives here, but he's going to give a NHL team to Kansas City, MO??? Are freaking kidding me! IT'S MISSOURI FOR HEAVENS SAKE! Not that I have anything against the state....since I have family there, but how the hell is going to want to go to a HOCKEY game in KANSAS CITY! Wasn't there a poll on MSN saying that Kansas City was one of the top ten OVER saturated areas for professional sports AND that Hartford was in the top 10 UNDER saturated as far as budget goes.... Does Fingold know something that we and MSN don't know? lol

I really don't think the Pens are going anywhere anyway. The city of Pittsburgh will get a new arena done. At least this shows that Larry G is serious about getting a team and maybe the next one will be able to move to Hartford.
