I forget what thread it was, but a few of us were dreaming about a downtown publix. I think we decided that the best spot for it was where the old BP/Hertz was. A big office building is going there now.

However, realistically, I don't think publix would build something in downtown. They already have two stores in the area (Monroe and Ocala).

Perhaps we could get a private grocer to set up a store downtown. I know in West Palm Beach, there are a few. They usually have a deli place inside for the lunch crowd. I suppose something like New Leaf would be good (don't think New Leaf would move though :( )

Realistically Publix WOULD build something downtown. I've spoken to a number of store managers, and even a regional manager who has their eye on what's happening downtown. Even if its a small Neighborhood Publix Market, they're not blind to whats going on.

And does that person have a proposal sitting on his or her desk that came in on time with the other RFP's that we never heard about?! I don't recall seeing a Proposal come in for a "Museum of other public institution" on that site, so what would posses that individual to oppose based on that. I tell you the truth... some people.

I just joined the forum and was upset to view what was said to be the FAMU architecture school's view of Tallahassee. As a graduate of the FAMU SOA, I know the SOA would not officially release anything that looked that to be considered "the future of Downtown Tallahassee." Those images are merely a class assignment (I have done many myself) which are generated in Photoshop by taking pictures of the existing sites and overlaying with stock photo clips from a mass library of urban images. Its an exercise in learning how to use the program and learn the skills, not be an urban planner. I think you owe myself and other FAMU graduates an apology for stating that is what we want to turn our city into. I completed the professional program in architecture last year and had an intense, full year study of Tallahassee's urban fabric, past present and future. The thesis topic presented to us for our final project was to prepare the city for an Olympic games in the year 2020. Of course, this was hypothetical but it got us really thinking about what we want to see in 14 years. Believe me, nothing came close to looking like those upsetting, piecemeal images of what you call Tallahassee's future.

Let's see it GG!

Here's what FAMU did the last time the city commissioned them to look into the future of Downtown Tallahassee.

BOARD1.jpg

This instead of Plaza Tower? I think not!!

BOARD3.jpg

This looks like a good idea yet to be explored!

BOARD6.jpg

Pedestrian Mall between City Hall and Courthouse??? Not necessary!

BOARD2.jpg

This Adams better than the one we have?

BOARD7.jpg

Check out this Challenger Learning Center

BOARD5.jpg

This was enough to scare Debbie Lightsey! LOL! It scared me too!!!

BOARD4.jpg

Possibly the most beautiful and realistic of FAMU's suggestions.

Overall: Thinking too small in some places and too large in others.
