Hmm... where can we start. At the entrance it's normally filthy and a stench normally hits when I walk through the atrium of the store. Inside the floor is usually dirty, products are normally scattered about, and it seems whatever product I'm looking for is always sold out. Then there's the whole quality thing. Many of the things I purchase from Wal-Mart are substandard in quality usually not lasting more than a year with normal use. I'm talking Irons, Blenders, watches, and various other electronic and mechanical devices.

I'd rather spend more if it means I can save some time in not having to go out and buy the same products everyyear. When I was growing up in my mom's house I can't remember her going out to buy new irons everyyear, new vaccumes, new blenders for her heavy baking habbits. That's because she got her stuff from Sears or some good store like that.

Wal-Mart is good for some things, but those things are hard to come by. And let's not get started on SOME OF THE people they hire.

You missed the part about the employees who would rather gouge their eyes out with a spork than speak to you in the check out line, or give you any sort of help sorting through their piles of junk that tend to be laying around the store. And the horrendous lines to checkout, when there are no less than 8 people standing around doing absolutely nothing.

Remember those signs they used to have above the checkout lines that said 'All checkout lanes open Friday - Sunday 8am to 8pm' or something like that? I sent at least 6 emails to the manager about it, asking when they were going to live up to the signs. The day after I sent the last email, the signs were taken down.

Needless to say, I avoid WalMart whenever possible. I'll pay a bit more to get actual customer service at Target.

I haven't noted it on here, but I thought I'd mention a new project going up on the corner of Martin Hurst Rd. and Timberlane across the street from the demolished Winn-Dixie. The sign they have up states the project as "Palafox Preserve." I haven't been able to find too much info on it so far. It's a 28.05 acre lot. It's apparently listed as "Mixed Use" and also says there are gonna be 19 lots/units. So I assume it's gonna be a little community. The plans specifically mention an 80 room hotel, as well.

They've already cleared out the trees on the lot and moved the heavy machinery in to smooth things out. There's also several palettes of lumber already on site and they've been digging trenches for pipelines and water run-off and such. Seems like it's moving along quickly at this point. I'll try to get some pictures up soon and more info if I can find it.

Anyone else have more info on this project?

Ok... enough about the stores let's get back to major developments.

Could Glenn, Celebrated, stjoe or someone in the Southwood area give us an update on the progress of those commercial buildings going up near the Intersection of CC and Blairstone?

Psycuda are the plans still moving forward on that Super Target or was that just a rumor at this point?

Has anyone noticed the People's First bank going up on Mahan. It is on the right if you're traveling east and is just after the nursing home. What I found striking about it was that it has what appears to be an underground parking level at its base. This seems odd given that it is an outer location to have such a thing, especially if there is room around it for parking spaces. This raises the question of how many employees will be working in it. We could have a four story or more building in the making.

Is it really a garage? When I've zoomed pass it on Mahan, I just thought it was a concrete under-building holding pond like the one that exist over at the new Walgreens at Micco. & Magnolia. I've really not at all gotten a good look. I like the garage idea much better.

^Does DeVoe Moore own that property where the strip center will go? I know he use to own the Fort Knox storage and office center in the area, but I believe he sold it a few years ago. Speaking of which, I'm not at all a fan of the ugly silver and red 4 or 5 story office bldg. in the Ft. Knox development that fronts right on Mahan. And currently that bldg. is in dire need of a pressure cleaning. It would be cool if they changed out all the ugly silver/gray panels for reflective glass. That would really spiffy up that bldg.

Looks like the push to move the fairgrounds to a new location has officially begun. On Thur. Feb. 1 they are in for a pre-submittal meeting w/COT to "to test out the waters." It's to be located on 91 acres on the southside of Capital Circle SW and 900 feet east of Crawfordville Rd. I think this would be just east of the current Publix shopping center in the area. I wonder who owns this land?

I'm all for moving the fairgrounds to a new location, however I don't feel that putting a retail shopping center and movie theatre like Proctor is so giddy about is the best use of this land. I'd like to see something put here that would bring in higher paying jobs than just retail. Don't get me wrong, I think the southside needs better retail and possibly a theatre, but not at this location.

Also isn't Southside coming in w/new retail and possibly a theatre? I know not exactly the true southside, but it's too close IMHO to duplicate these services.

What do you think?
