Austin & Austin Metro Projects Compilation

Here are some photos of the newest to start construction of the four largest hotels U/C Downtown.  This is for the duo branded Hotel Indigo/Holiday Inn Express (yawn.)  The four biggest U/C hotels have about 2K rooms.  There are several more large hotels planned.  A god awful parking garage was demolished for this in what I consider to be the most derelict/sketchy area of Downtown.

In post #118 on the previous page I mentioned a project that a California company - Dropbox, Inc. - is moving into and creating 200+ new jobs.  Oddly enough a competitor of theirs - Box, Inc. - also from California - is moving into a building across the street and creating 200 new jobs as well.  Not only is the sizable Austin start up community creating jobs, but California companies are moving here and trying to one up each other:

The construction activity at the Seaholm and Green Water sites is getting most of the attention from the crane porn enthusiasts (like me), but there are a lot of other cranes scattered around downtown.  Here are a couple recent photos of some other cranes:

The Westin Hotel in the foreground and the redevelopment of the site for the future Dropbox offices in the background:

Here's another crane shot.  This is the Catherine apartment tower which is topped out.  The facade going up on the parking levels will block the view of the parking garage for the residents of the Broadstone mid-rise which is going up directly in front of (and virtually adjacent to) the Catherine.

Franklin BBQ with its (in)famous three hour wait for lunch will be closing for two weeks later this month as part of an ongoing expansion project.  Here are some construction updates from BuildingATX:

A site plan was filed with the city for another residential high rise.  This one is a 19-story apartment building in West Campus.  Here's the link to the site plan - the elevations begin on page 7 of the "PLANS75%" attachment.  (But The link to the city's permit site is down as I post this.)

Here's another elevation of the West Campus project - University House - from post #76.  It shows that one side has cantilevered columns which adds a little architectural interest to what would otherwise be just another bland residential high rise.

  • 2 weeks later...

A new tower crane went up a couple days ago at the Green Water site.  These pictures are from today.  There is another crane to the right of these that I couldn't fit in to the shot:

A billboard (with a very realistic rendering) went up this past week on the future site of the 5th & Colorado office building.  Once again a virtual campground of Austin food trailers will have to move to another parking lot.

A tower crane permit request was filed today for the University House Apartments in West Campus.  So this should be starting construction soon.  It seems the big projects announced for West Campus get built much quicker than those in Downtown proper.

Here are a couple renderings of the sky bridge connecting  the convention center and the future 1,056 room, ~49-story room Fairmont Hotel:

...and lest we forget what this often delayed project will look like:  (The groundbreaking now seems to be set for September.)

A drone photography company has some videos of downtown construction sites.  You can link to their Youtube channel from the videos.
