Retail in Richmond

Richmond gets an indoor trampoline park.

I had wondered if Richmond had one of these, but never checked. My sister lives in Greenville, NC and was curious since her son wanted to have a birthday party at one. Maybe, now they can come here.

West Broad Village leases what probably is the last commercial parcel to a new to the market GOLFSMITH, a (you guessed it) golf retailer based in Austin, TX with over 78 stores nationwide. The Richmond market was supposedly one they had showed interest in for quite sometime.

Interesting.  Has the prospect of putting high rise office buildings in that development no longer in the plans?  I remember several years ago, they were going to build 10-12 story office buildings there...at least I think that was in WBV...the development closest to the ramp onto I-64.

Isn't the site of the proposed office buildings where the community garden currently is? I can see that being a traffic nightmare at rush hour.

Well, who knows if the plans are still to build high rise office towers there?  That WAS their plan, but the economic scene has changed quite a bit since they had announced their intentions.  I have a feeling that a high rise will not come to fruition there as originally planned.  Something tells me that, unless the economy gets better, the developer might settle with just about anything (probably retail), but then again, they might not be in a hurry to develop that part of the area since the garden is there.  I would hope that they would wait for a development that would be worthwhile.  We'll see what happens since the high rise building sites are the only parts left of that development that aren't either spoken for or developed yet.

Yep - there won't be any spec highrise action there. It will require a tenant to step up and take most, if not all, of a new building. Vacancy is compressing quickly in Innsbrook, which is starting to push existing product rents higher. Once the cost to build is closer to the cost of existing product, we'll see some new construction office in the burbs again. There are already concrete plans for a "highrise" in Innsbrook proper which will kick-off the Innsbrook Next initiative.

Ledbury has gained national exposure for it's high quality tailored shirts and other clothing. Now it is crossing the river.

It will open up a temporary store (a pop-up shop) in Stony Point Fashion Park.

But the plans don't stop there. They plan on testing out other markets like DC by planning a Georgetown pop up shop as well.

Dollar Tree is opening a store in Manchester, however the real excitement doesn't even end there. The article by Richmond BizSense today hints at a possible big-box grocer coming to the area south of the James, as reported by retail analysts who say it's a classic tale of retail after rooftops. Kroger, apparently, is the best fit, while Martin's says it has the right demographic for opening a store in that area. Hmm....

I wish that thre had been more info about the Dollar Tree. I hope that it isn't set in the middle of a parkinglot. I'm glad for the locals that there is stuff coming, I hope it is at least a bit urban though. That is such a weird area. It could just as easily turn into an unsightly cluster f*** as it could into a functioning urban neighborhood befitting the prime location. I'm nervous.

The one at Lombardy and Broad is OK (it took over an existing building). I'm cool with the type of retail that it is. I'm sure a better mix will be there later. For now it will be a good fit for the neighborhood and if it is done well can attract a nice, mixed crowd (like the ones in the west end).

I go to the one in Carver all the time (candy, seasonal party supplies and batteries).

Yeah, let's just hope they do it right and it draws the mixed crowd you speak of.  The last thing I'd like to see is Manchester be the "trashy" side of downtown Richmond.  It really should be the upscale side since they have such superior views of downtown!

National sporting goods chain Cabela's is opening their 2nd Virginia location in a new retail/residential development West Broad Marketplace in the area just west of Short Pump Town Center/Town Center West.

Alongside the new West Broad Marketplace development is also Bob Atack's unnamed medical office-driven mixed use development, and GreenGate, a residential/retail mixed-use development which was just announced around a week ago.

Short Pump Town Center, which last year celebrated 10 years since opening, announced new retailers and new features and released new (preliminary looking) renderings:

Here is the story on Aldi coming to Henrico. I have had many meals at that Topekas. This will be handy to have while in the area. I live right over off of Patterson near Gaskins road.
