  1. Yeah that took almost 1 year since the Bi-Lo closed.
  2. Disappointing!! So this probably means Fresh Market won't be going to Elizabeth, and that we still have a long wait for Whole Foods. If anything is the "whole paycheck" btw, it's Fresh Market, not Whole Foods.
  3. Whole Foods Market seems to be the likely candidate. It's the only once that makes sense with the given variables.
  4. This was judging by many of the comments on the Observer's website
  5. Well, a lot of people seem to be upset that a big name retailer like Nordstrom Rack chose to locate outside of Pineville instead of in or around uptown Charlotte.
  6. Ahh yes it does look rather suburban. I was hoping this store would look more like... (via flickr.com) Perhaps not much more of an improvement of the current design, but I'd like an exterior that includes a lot of glass
  7. Actually Apple in Greensboro is also 6,000 square feet thus making them equal size.
  8. For the record, my government job [somewhere in NC] is open today...
  9. Ah yeah I see, that does make sense.
  10. Maybe Costco typically focuses on upscale but their Matthews and Tyvola stores are in similar to University City demographic areas.
  11. SuperTarget could work if they reworked the space (i.e. Dick's move into Best Buy, and then redevelop Wal-Mart and Dick's space into SuperTarget)... and there is a SuperTarget and Sam's club in the same shopping center in Durham so it is a plausible scenario. But yeah, as mentioned, this would subsequently close Target's store on University City Blvd leaving another empty box... maybe then Costco could fill that space? lol
  12. Yeah, Bottom Dollar's market is not University City and having the Bloom right there is pretty successful. As far as a Kmart re-emerging, that is highly unlikely I don't even think Kmart opens new stores anymore. As far as a Sears -- they closed their Eastland store and their heart doesn't seem to be in the Charlotte market right now, and arguably their Concord store is not that far away. We're pretty much running out of options of things that can fill the former Wal-mart and soon to be former Best Buy
  13. Oh yes there is - but they are in two separate shopping centers which I think enables them to co-exist better, I don't know if they could co-exist in the exact same shopping center. (could they?)
  14. Yeah that does leave a large amount of empty box retail in University City. I really hope that land can be better utilized. It is a high traffic area so one would think the stores would be filled but at the same time we're in a recession and you have to ask yourself what stores exactly could fill these spaces? I think a Costco would be ideal (since there is none on this side of town) but I doubt they'd open a store right next to Sam's club.
  15. Well they have more than raw and vegetarian food - they do have meat at Blynk. They have salads, wraps, soups, sandwiches, etc with a focus on "natural" and some organic/local foods http://www.blynkorganic.com
  16. Well guys, the franchisees have relinquished the Uno's brand, but it is reopened as Mason's Uptown http://helendining.blogspot.com/2009/12/pizza-by-any-other-name.html the pizza is now flatbread as opposed to deep dish style.
  17. I wish we could get some competition to Best Buy (aside from HH Gregg) like a Fry's-closest stores in GA, or Crutchfield-they have retail stores in VA
  18. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/08/the-most-outrageous-fast_n_380380.html another reason it's a good thing Uno's closed... ridiculous
  19. Unos express is just frozen unos pizzas reheated right. Anyway I hope something local and sustainable opens in Uno's location, I don't know though.
  20. Thanks for the scans, is there a way to save the images? the new photo thing that UP has I think makes it difficult to save.
  21. Zoe's is good - ok i take back the pricey thing... in relation and talking to a friend who works at a place similar to Zoe's... it's not really, I just didn't have it in perspective
  22. That's true, I'd imagine if it went through many of those former Bi-Los would have just been vacant, as we see with many former Winn Dixies still in the area like that.
  23. Was hoping Greensboro would get a Nordstrom Rack, between CLT and the Triangle.
