  1. Great news for Durham! Having that creative class really can add a lot to the fabric of the community. We are truly lucky to have a plethora of both creative and technical professions here in the Triangle.
  2. If we had a Carolina Brewery or a Spanky's in Downtown Raleigh, I'd be there every other night. I think I might send them a note myself.
  3. Here's a story on WRAL's website about Belk taking over the top floor of the former Lord & Taylor space at Crabtree. Looks like it will be part of a larger renovation of the store, bringing its total square footage (including the separate men's store I assume) to over 300k square feet.
  4. That same list could be considered some of the "coolest" places in the country as well - funny how that works.
  5. haha, well...its true. So is the name of the place going to be October Station, or is that just the "upmarket consulate" company? I'm...confused...too...many...big...words......
  6. That "October Station" website is ridiculous.
  7. I just stopped by and picked up some things - there were about 5 people in there besides me. But it was about to close...so I'm not sure what normal traffic is.
  8. I walked by there yesterday and it didn't look like anything was going on. They put up the brown paper after they closed the restaurant down.
  9. I agree ChiefJoJo - I went by there at 8:15 the other night and I too had to go to Harris Teeter - kind of disappointing, as I wanted to try to go there as much as possible, but I too will have problems with them closing at 8.
  10. ^Went by there for lunch today - wasn't all that crowded, but the menu is pretty extensive - New Orleans style dishes as well as sandwiches/hamburgers. A lot of specialty drinks as well. The food I had was okay, the club (can't really mess that up) - and a friend of mine got the shrimp po boy, it was a little on the cool side. The servers just need a little time to warm up and they'll be much better, I'm sure. I'll give this place another try at dinner time, hopefully the ambiance will be a little better then as well.
  11. Went by there today - its a nice little store and had most everything I was looking for - there were a couple things that I would have to go to Harris Teeter to get, but I think I'll be shopping there a lot. I forgot to check out their hours though - anyone know them?
  12. ^Boo, that stinks -- hopefully that whole area over there with Riviera, Raleigh Times, whatever goes in the corner space of Heilig-Levine, and Dos Taquitos will take off, thats a nice area kinda overlooking the capitol.
  13. I don't think an "Underground" complex would be a good idea here - its not really a good idea in Atlanta now. It basically "hides" everyone below street level...and last time I went it was pretty run-down.
  14. You mean it was originally going to be more than a rectanglular box?
  15. Yeah, they need to work on burying powerlines downtown - especially there.
  16. So, within the next month or so we should have the following opening on Fayetteville Street: Yancys! Big Easy Ice Cream Shop Bickett Gallery That other art gallery The Mint Am I missing anything? We need a couple of bars down there. I read somewhere the Capital Room is going to expand.
  17. ^Haha thats funny - I guess someone just snuck in there a put a sign up, right? Jeeze, why deny something that has been announced in the paper and a sign has been put in the store?
  18. Well it definitely sounds like this will be a new favorite for downtown - I'm glad its filling the sunrise biscuit space - its looking pretty sad these days. I have heard good things about the location on Creedmoor - I hope they can duplicate it downtown! (of course the downtown location should be even that much better, right? ) btw the sign says its opening in January '07...Dos Taquitos Centro - how cool
  19. Well we can argue the merit of these lists from here to next week, but what it boils down to is good publicity for the area. I see no need to poo poo it.
  20. I can think of two off the top of my head since RBC announced - Headway Corporate Staffing and Capital Bank. I don't think the city is resting on its laurels at all. I would love to see a LARGE company move its HQ to DTRaleigh, and maybe the Reynolds can do that for us?
  21. Well put, and I totally agree. People may have ventured out there when it was new or to check out Saks, but when it comes down to it, more people are going to hop on the beltline and pass a few exits to get to Crabtree than to get on the hellacious Capital Blvd anyday. Crabtree is still king in this area, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
  22. That'll make two "Triangle East" shopping centers in Wake County - the first is in Zebulon where Belk and (yes) Roses is.
