  1. I have to admit, it's pretty impressive. I'm a bit jealous they have an awesome boutique hotel and we're getting a Residence Inn. The Sir Walter would be an awesome spot for a hotel like this. I can dream...
  2. Article from the NC State Technician: Hillsborough Street sees multi-million dollar investments Nothing groundbreaking but some info from the Live it Up! Hillsborough Street folks.
  3. Here's a TBJ article about the purchase of some prime real estate on Hillsborough near the capitol and Glenwood South. It mentions they'd want to preserve the A&P spot...for a grocery? I'd like to see that facade taken down if they're going to keep it.
  4. I think the Nash Tavern is going in the Raleigh Times 2 building - same guy that's opening Standard Foods off of Person St.
  5. I love how just weeks ago Raleigh was on the brink of greatness with Dix, Moore square, Kane in the warehouse district, etc etc and now because there is talk of more busses and no trains, all of a sudden the city is falling apart. Everyone will soon be pouring out of the city limits to go to Durham so they can ride a train. Let's get a grip and let this work itself out. If trains aren't going to work in wake county, I'll be interested in seeing how Durham and orange make it work with less than half the population COMBINED. I don't get why we are so quick to condemn Raleigh and heap praise on other corners of the triangle when it's been Raleigh and wake that are leading the areas growth, both population wise and in urbanity.
  6. I'm not sure if the 10 at Person is considered condos or townhomes, but they sold out in a matter of days, and there was a wait list a mile long. We need more stuff like that.
  7. Make that 10 or 11! Hard to believe we've been talking about this (and Dix for that matter) for almost a decade.
  8. Here's the latest from the N&O. Due to increased land and construction costs, the city needs to come up with another $16mil or find ways to downsize it. Seems like there is city council support to go forward with spending more money. The city manager is coming back later with final recommendations.
  9. Also on Person Street right across from Person Pointe at 501 S. Person St (intersection of Person/Cabarrus) there is a little former church that was severely damaged during the tornado a few years ago. Developer Phuc Tran bought the property and rehabed it and is now looking to put a restaurant in the space. There had been conversations with Van Nolitha (one of the Bida Manda owners) to put something in the space. I attended a couple community meetings and most of the neighbors were worried about alcohol being served in their neighborhood. I personally think their worries are misguided, but I digress. The Central CAC decided to vote against allowing a restaurant in the space. I know that's not binding, but the planning commission also apparently tabled a decision for a later date. (http://raleighpublicrecord.org/news/2015/01/09/central-cac-votes-against-rezoning-cases/) As the group of people who would most be affected by having a restaurant across the street from our building, we were all very supportive. It was those in South Park who were worried a bar would come in and they worked so hard to get them all out back in the 80s/90s. They actually stated they have a standing order to not vote for any place that sells alcohol. Sad, but hopefully something will come of it. Van is a great guy and if it's anywhere near the quality of Bida Manda (which I'm sure it would be) we would all be the better for it.
  10. Yes, Person Pointe - I was the last one to buy when they were new so I got a pretty good deal on it. And prices have definitely gone up since then. I'm not sure who the developer was, actually.
  11. I live in the condo building on the same block as the 10 at Person. For personal reasons, I'm very excited about the changes happening all around me. It's taken 10 years, but stuff is finally happening!
  12. He did, but per the usual with him, I'm sure it was a publicity ploy. As my grandmother says, "I'd rather see it than hear tell of it."
  13. Agreed, even though it's a lower lying area, I think 20 is about as high as it should go.
  14. Here's the latest: http://www.newsobserver.com/2015/01/08/4461233/three-roundabouts-13m-would-slow.html
  15. Well we've had other developer with much more resources that we thought could deliver, but couldn't (empire, Lafayette) so maybe these small folks will get it done? Trying to stay positive, that baptist headquarters is a waste.
  16. Sam & Wally's is closing at the base of the BB&T tower. I never actually went there so I personally won't feel the loss. Wonder what they're thinking about will replace it? http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/12/18/4414172/retail-downtown-raleigh-staple.html?sp=/99/104//
  17. Looks like Mercedes is trolling for tax giveaways from Georgia and North Carolina. This article suggests they're looking at several NC cities...I would imagine Charlotte and Raleigh? This might explain why Germany popped up on the "direct flight from RDU" list earlier this year.
  18. Ahh even with the success Person Plaza is having now, I still would've rather had seen this get built.
  19. More interesting that Greg Hatem wants to put a 30 story tower right behind Citrix.
  20. Here's an update from the TBJ on some other apartments going up on Hillsborough Street. http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/blog/real-estate/2014/08/two-more-hillsborough-street-apartment-projects.html Glad to see the investments the city made are seemingly paying off.
  21. The Washington Post had a nice little article on Raleigh a few days ago. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/travel/raleighs-art-science-and-sounds/2014/08/07/bfd3106c-19b9-11e4-9e3b-7f2f110c6265_story.html
  22. It's called P.G. Werth's - here's their facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pgwerths/info
  23. This is exactly what I was thinking - the city has plenty of spots downtown that it owns that would be perfect for DHHS. We'd get more employees downtown, more density, and more business, AND get the park land that we're looking for. Win-win in my book.
