    The West End

The owner of the building is expaning out the basement to add restrooms down stairs and also to add an entrance on the street to the downstairs level. The deck will then get built back over this addition. I don't think there is a tenant going in yet but making these changes will make it a more marketable space.
  2. Here is the proposed plan for the Apartment Complex on Hampton Avenue Extension. Companion on the Reedy It'll be 192 units in a craftsman style building - 3 stories, 24 units per building. It looks like it will be marketed to below median income earners. So it will provide some affordable housing close to down town. It'll be a good reclamation of an abandoned lot and add some more population density to the area. It'll tie in to the swamp rabbit trail as the reedy river runs right along the bottom of the site.
  3. Hincapie Sportswear is expanding to a lot behind the current building. That's great to Hear. Hincapie
  4. I would say the focus right now is "Quantity". Seeing new bus shelters popping up all over the routes will be good to see and will be a positive visual on the City's running of the system. I can see cries of money being wasted on "Designed" bus shelters if they started popping up. The Bus system has been plagued by underfunding so I think the biggest bang for the buck is the right way to go. You can't even tell at the moment where bus stops are. Seeing shelters pop up will actually let people know waht route the buses take and possibly consider using them. It's a positive step in the right direction.
  5. Drove by rutherford and Stone Avenue yesterdat and there was some heavy machinery on the old Hess gas station on the corner there. They had removed the old canopy over the pumps. Could someting finally be getting ready to happen at this intersection.
  6. There is a proposal before the planning department to re-develop an industrial site on Hampton Avenue Extension. It's located right next to the Monaghan Mill Lofts and fronts onto West Washington St. Hampton Avenue Ext Re-Development It looks like it could be some Luxury Apartments. The contact works for Companion Associates which develops "Luxury Communities" This would definitely be a good add to the area an offer some more options for living close to downtown. The Swamp rabbit Trail runs right by this property.
  7. It looks like they have started Demoing the old Labor Finders building opposite the Pete Hollis Garden on Poinsett Hwy. That would be a good start to freeing up a lot for some possible development in that area.

    The West End

Was walking to Subway for lunch today and noticed that in the Chicora West End Office (windows papered up, used to be an art gallery) they were unloading samples out of boxes for cabinet types etc. So the sales office for this tower could be opening soon. It probably helped that the DPC approved the Green Monster. Hopefully now we shoudl start to see soem stuff in the news about this West-End Tower.

I've got to say I like this final proposal better. I think it fits well with the West-End. The DPC got it right.

    Financial problems of the restaurateur.
  12. Lookslike the city has already started facelifting the Downtown Bus Depot. Just drove by there and the parking deck above it is closed off and they were demo'ing some of the existing brick walls up there.

I believe there was some significant meeting held upstairs that led to the founding of the State Democrat Party or with General Wade Hampton or something to that effect.
  14. The Bi-lo center was opened 10 years ago. What has filled in between there and Main St in those 10 years? Fluor Field was opened 2 years ago and it's aready sparked development around it. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!
  15. Check out This Article from the Greenville news. Downtown alive will be switching location from Piazza Bergamo to The Hyatt when it starts at the end of this month due to the work getting ready to begin on the site of the old Woolworths Building.
  16. I think the biggest obstacle to making pubs/restaurants viable around the bi-lo center is that there is nothing along the arteries to the bi-lo center to entice pedestrians to walk that way. Unless you are going to an event there is nothing along east north st, beattie place or elford that would really make you want to walk down those streets. IF the gateway site fills in with what they are planning that would go along way as you can see that site as you are walking down either of those streets away from Main st.
  17. I saw that bus as well about a week ago driving through the West-end. Looks pretty sharp.
  18. Was driving into town this morning and noticed a new sign up on the vacant lot before the lights near the Kash N Karry on Pete Hollis Hwy. It's advertizing Retail Out parcels available. I'll try and get a better look at it later. I think the developer is Continental or something like that.

The Downunder/10 venue is officially dead. It's not going to happen. Thought it was a bad sign when the banner was posted looking for partners.

    The Rumor Mill

I see work has stopped at what was the old Long John Silvers site on Augusta Rd. All signs are down. Slab is ready to be poured but rebar is rusting. I believe that was going to be a Bank branch. Got to be bad when a bank can't even finance it's own construction.
  21. Wasn't the developer for the apartments different form the developer of the Commercial side (Publix and staples). I rememeber when they hit rock there fo rthe parking deck there was a big brouhaha about which one of them was responsible for paying for excavating it. They do not look like $900 a month apartments. They just don't do it for me.

The open store front between Compadres and Port City Java in The Field House is going to be filled with a Boutique. I saw asign on the window there. There hasn't been much going on at all at the Downunder/10 restaurant. Wonder if this is going to happen. They should have started work on it by now.
  23. There's also the Lofts of Greenville, 2 miles from downtown off of Cedar Lane. The Swamp Rabbit trail goes right by them. They are close to being filled out. They have just about finished phase II. The are available for rent or lease to own.
