  1. Like btoy said we've only heard about the office building. We probably won't hear anything else about it for while now.

    The West End

Oh. OK. I looked at that and said hell no! I'm glad they denied that.
  3. I don't know how I feel about this right now. But I guess it might look better, built, than on paper. I can remember feeling the same about Grill Marks when it was first announced. But ended up liking it. Well it more grew on me.

    The West End

It's still there. You have to go on the city's planning and zoning applications page. But I saw the revised plans. Um...... I could see the second floor addition. It's just that roof. Why do they feel they have to have it. It would be so out of place. There is nothing else surrounding this building to show relevance.
  5. Well..... It was alright. Nothing spectacular. I wouldnt go back if i were in charleston. But thats just me. Maybe they could have bigger and better plans than they did down there. But for the lawn repair owner. I think he even knows his time has come. That area is going to grow like crazy in the next few years. He's going to come out of this ok.
  6. Could be something good. I went to the one in Charleston last year. Im going to say this. If they dont put some real money into this. Its not going to be good. Im just crossing my finger and trying to be optimistic. If they can pull it off. Then that could be a focal point, like the beach company, to spur developement up and down Stone Ave. But other news. And dont know its been mentioned. I went into the lawn and tractor repair business and they said they were moving. No surprise there. Since they have a for sale sign outside. The surprise is that they submitted a permit to update the exterior of the property and the city denied it. I had a long conversation with the owner, who is more than upset with the city. Said once he sales he was moving his business outside city limits. Maybe mauldin or greer. But said he has had some serious discussion with some developers who are interested in other property on either side of his business. Of course he couldnt get into specifics. But might be something to look for in the future. Maybe some of our real estate folks on here can do a lil investigating to get a lil more info. I got this info just because this guy wanted to vent. Oh and this company is on the west stone ave. Across from the old plasma center.
  7. I was by a little earlier today and noticed that they were starting to erect the base of the tower crane. I thought it was a little to soon for that. But I guess they are moving a little faster than I thought.
  8. Well i do know what you were talking about. I really meant how things were in the early 80's to about the early 2000's. I lived there as a youth in the 80's when alot of the older buildings were torn down. That was shame. But they did get better at attract developing areas like gateway and southend. There was no dissing, just honest observation.
  9. I see Greenville with a mid-rise skyline. Which there is nothing wrong with that. With maybe a sprinkling of high-rises in the future. But Washington is a good, no excellent example of a large city with a mid-rise. Which is saying, you don't need high-rises to have that urban feel. Being honest. I like how developements are happennig at the pace and locations that they are. Than to see them happenning in one place. That's what happened to Charlotte. Everything downtown, uptown to folks there, and bald around the edges. With all the focus on the high-rise towers, they lost focus. They had been dealing with this for a long time. Up until recently. Guess what Columbia is/has the same issue. Reason I mentioned that is because high-rises don't make a city. It's how the buildings work and look together.
  10. Well the odds in my opinion are......... very, very slim. Just looking at the size of the property, 4+ acres is alot of space, for a building with 20+ floors. Thats around here anyway. What I see happenning is something along the lines of maybe another RiverPlace type of developement. Maybe with a little more height. But it all depends on what they are paying for the property. If it's at or just above market value, then expect RiverPlace with a little more height. But if they were in a bidding war for it, and they must have spent alot, then expect something spectacular. I'm suspecting the first. You know both parties didn't say. But we'll see really soon.
  11. The dominoes are starting to fall. When we saw the plans for this, i knew this building on the square was inevitable. People are trying to get in before things get to expensive. Look for others.
  12. ^^^ Well ausrutherford I think the right situation may have come where all the property owners may want to think about selling. If they were waiting for a better time to do it. This is it. That property, while thinking about it the liquor store and all the property behind the Greenville News, will all be in high demand. I'm pretty sure the city is already talking to the about this very thing. They already see the wind of change. Even if most of us don't. It's going to be like how the One project had folk thinking about how can we improve our property.
  13. That company buying that piece of property is an outstanding developer. If they are going to build here, its not going to be crap. They have a pretty good track record as far as quality developements. Its obvious they already have the plans. The public is just going to have to wait to see them. Im going to make this predictions. Watch out for the parking lot across the street. It won't stay empty long. I don't know anything. It's just have a gut feeling. I just know someone's been looking at it. But like i said. I don't know anything.
  14. ^^^ Like you said. This going to be more of a regional thing. I can't see folk from up this way packing up the car and heading down that way to get wet. Same for folks along the coast. Like Vicupstate said there are 3 water parks in the county and 3 others , 1 in Carowinds, Six Flags, and Dollywood) to choose from. CorgiMatt you do have a good point in saying that you have to pay the cover charge for the parks. But most of the time the water parks are just one of the attractions and not the main event. Charleston's park, I realy mean North Charleston's parks, is sucessful because the area is just a tourist magnet. And being honest if I were in Charleston I would rather go to the park than to actually go in the river or ocean. And alot of people would agree with me. But that's just me. Fact of the matter of all this is. If they do decide to build it. It has to be a high quality product. Because people will talk. The potential, If done right, will draw people from the other attractions that people come to see. Adding one more thing for visitors to do while there. I want Columbia to have something else to do when I come. Not being funny. But the more you have. The more reasons I have to come back. And y'all know what I'm talking about.
  15. The problems with the homeless are not going to get better unless the communities that are impacted started looking at the underlying reason of why it's happening. I have to admit that the homelessness in a some of fasted growing cities, especially in the Southeast, is growing more dire every day. But we can't turn a blind eye to it. Here in Greenville (SC) we have documented cases of homeless people being bused into the city EVERYDAY from all over the country. Some from as far away as the West coast and North as Minnesota and Wisconsin. YES! I will say that it get on my nerves to see them begging for money and sleeping on benches and sidewalks. And like there in Charlotte, they pick prime real estate downtown to do all these things. And once again like Charlotte, we are at a turning point where companies are relocating HQ's like the recent Sealed Air move (where they looked at both cities before choosing Charlotte), we are trying to put our best foot forward. Someone above said why not just ban the homeless in particular places or areas, like downtowns. Well look at the backlash Columbia (SC) had when they proposes that idea. By the way I'm thinking it could be against the law or unconstitutional to ban any law abiding citizen to be in any public place. I am no law scholar. Here in Greenville there is a large homeless population and we know it. Most live in an area we locals call Tent City, Underneath a bridge here on the Westside. Similar to one underneath an interstate bridge in Atlanta. We have to figure out creative ways to fix the problem. Some folks with Greenville County and the City of Greenville in association with non-profits in the area are looking at a program that is going on in Nashville. That program takes care of the immediate need, which is housing, then with the help of the non-profit takes care of the underlying issues. Which could be drug abuse, education, transportation, etc....... Pushing these people out of sight. Should not push these people out of mind.
  16. That's another outstanding developer head you guys way. He's done some great things up this way in Greenville. That is a good spot to.
  17. I'm glad Columbia is catching up with the other metros as far as food goes. I always wondered what the deal was. But now I can go down and get something good to eat and it not be fast food or suburban type dining. Good for them.
  18. I saw that the other night. Looks like it will be the same kind of outfit as RiverPlace. Maybe a little different.
  19. They have been looking for people for over a month now. UBJ was a little late on that.
  20. I was thinking the same thing. Just don't know what to really think. It's a confusing concept they are conveying.
  21. We may see one more if all the stars align just right. But at this point thats a big if.
  22. I saw that to. Looks like it was a piece of drilling equipment.
  23. Oh. OK. I know what you're talking about. The other crane that was on the same site.
