  1. Of course, the Uber-rich in NYC live in Manhattan, one of the few places in the world with properties that sell at $10k/sf+. P.S.: Sorry for the tangent.
  2. Many Super rich people seems to like that style. Check out half of the houses in Beverly Hills, Dallas, and Houston. Greenwich, Connecticut is alternative for more demure mansions in the NYC burbs.
  3. Excessive taxes, regulation, and obscene housing costs. Despite the absurd and groundless stereotypes, NJ is actually an outrageously gorgeous and super-rich place. Look up on Realtor.com Alpine, Saddle River, Short Hills, Franklin Lakes, etc. Also, NJ is (and always will be) a pharma and life sciences powerhouse due to the concentration of Princeton, Columbia, and Penn in a very small area.
  4. I’d be elated if they deck that over. I hope to return to Charlotte from Chapel Hill when my youngest graduates from high school in 10 years. Hopefully, by then, there will be new condos fronting a park that covers the John Belk. I’d be pleased to live there.
  5. Has a rendering of the office building been released yet?

  7. Don’t forget the Goodwrench station where Ally and the Marriott are now. That was quite a transformation of that site.
  8. That’s true. Charlotte and Nashville are both thriving.
  9. Are there any engineers who might render an educated guess as to how tall this might be by Christmas? Might it be three to five stories above ground? This overhead shot from The Observer shows that this project is much further along than I had thought.
  10. True. Unlike the rest of Florida, Miami is essentially year-round summer. It gets occasional day time highs in the upper 60s during the winter, but most days from Dec through Feb are mid/upper 70s to the low 80s. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, it’s the only part of mainland Florida with a tropical climate, and the vegetation reflects it. They don’t have coconut trees and certain other palms in central (let alone northern) Florida. Has anyone has been to Miami lately? I was there a few weeks ago, and it is absolutely booming . Further, it has an extreme degree of wealth that you only find in NY, SF, and LA (e.g., tons of homes in excess of $25m, Ferraris, Lambos, Rolls, everywhere, super-fancy stores, etc.). Also, there are massive, multi-million dollar boats EVERYWHERE. I was struck by how ridiculously rich it is. I’m used to granolas in Chapel Hill driving Priuses with Bernie for President stickers and proudly displaying composting equipment and mini-bee aviaries in their front yards.
  11. That’s true. If this project were in downtown Raleigh, it would get coverage on every local television channel. I think that Charlotte’s sole, true rival right now is Nashville. Denver and SLC are similarly-sized, dynamic cities, but are too far away to be rivals of Charlotte. Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston seem to be rivals given their approximate size, which is significantly greater than Charlotte. However, Dallas and Houston seem to be well ahead of Atlanta. The QC is really thriving.
  12. Many people don’t realize that the Carolinas are hotter in the summer than Miami is.
  13. I wonder if those are supposed to be largely accurate renderings of the buildings surrounding the library.
  14. Is that rebar? Is this already above ground strictly speaking?
  15. Is there anyone here with an engineering background who can explain how excavation finished so quickly? I’m very happy that it has, but I’m surprised how quickly it finished.

  17. I guess the crowd from that Crown building that someone posted recently won’t be coming here. (I never even knew what “crown” referred to until I saw the posts here and then looked it up on Urban Dictionary.)
  18. As I recall, Trianon and Colony are separated by Roxborough. I was stating that I hope that pedestrians will be able to walk from one development to the other. It would be a shame if the Colony had garbage, utilities, etc. on the Roxborough side that prevented pedestrians from entering on that side from Related’s project. There’s a lot to look forward to in SP.
  19. Will the Related/Trianon be directly behind the Colony? It would be nice if there are entrances to both developments on Roxborough so that pedestrians can walk from one development to the other. Also, are there renderings of the Nucor expansion?
  20. Wow! I thought that maybe the crane was for something else. Is it possible that this tower could be ten stories above ground by Christmas? This is a treat!
