Economic Development - Expansions and Relocations

But since all rich people are leaving NY, SF, and LA and moving to Charlotte, maybe that demand will exist in the future. -

Charlotte has become a major market. Isn’t it among the ten busiest in the US? -

I wonder where in the state this plant will be. Greensboro seems to be the aviation manufacturing hub, but Concord might be possible too. Also, “Concord” would be an appropriate place to build supersonic jets. “…. Boom will build the jet at a new manufacturing plant in North Carolina and expects to roll out the first model in 2025, with the first flight in 2026.” https://www.maxim.com/travel/this-new-supersonic-jet-can-fly-from-nyc-to-london-in-just-3-5-hours/amp/ Also, I wonder if any of these will fly from Charlotte. -
They were, but there were anti-trust concerns. I could see the interest rekindled. It was widely reported in the NYT, WSJ, and FT.

Mortgage origination has caused Wells a lot of money due to alleged abuses. I suspect that they want to get into more lucrative work. Their investment banking is relatively minuscule. Not to mention, Wells has been the subject of takeovers for a long time and is on Goldman’s radar.

Durham on 8/8 The YMCA project hasn’t started yet. Neither has the condo on the site of this deck across from the Carolina Theater. Durham has some nice old buildings.

You’ve got to love Clt! The city keeps building and building, or should I say that like the Panthers, it “keeps pounding”! -
I also found this. I don’t know If it’s about the same institution or a different one. I suspect the latter.

Since I now come in from 77 traveling Southbound, I like to exit at Trade Street and see the trolleys going by, drive by the federal courthouse, and gradually approach BoA.

When NC and Ga passed their questionable laws a few years ago, many companies took a disingenuous stand and “punished” the states. Texas, by contrast, is going absolutely over the top on every issue, and yet, companies are relocating there in droves. Clearly, the bottom line rules. -

JLL Marketed Duke Properties (2 now and eventually 3)
SydneycartonII replied to CarolinaDaydreamin's topic in Charlotte
I don’t think that it’s a cardinal sin to mention other cities in a thread. Charlotte has grown into a substantial city, such that there’s no reason for anxiety when comparing it to other cities. All cities from the biggest to the smallest can learn from each other. Also, your points about DC are very insightful.- 78 replies

Also, DC has become very expensive. NC is a much more economical market that’s not too far away. -

I agree. I think that SC cities should also connect to NC cities by high speed rail. Columbia is the same region too. -

A lot of 1,300’ to 1,600’ super towers! Charlotte and Raleigh have very different economies that compliment each other. I don’t see it as city v. city. Further, the stretch between Charlotte and Raleigh with Chapel Hill, Durham, Greensboro, and WS between them is pretty small geographically, and, therefore, to the extent that they each have a different specialty, it makes this geographically small region far more robust. -
That’s true. Also, there’s a winter/hockey culture there that people love.

You’d think that they’d all want to move from Minneapolis. It’s actually a very nice city, but its winters are long and unbearable. They make Chicago seem like Boca Raton.

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/development/article264039341.htm Apartments and retail could come to SouthPark Towers office site after $192M sale BY GORDON RAGO UPDATED AUGUST 01, 2022 5:12 PM It’s now clear what two office towers in SouthPark are worth: $192.5 million. We also know more about what an out-of-state commercial real estate firm has planned for the 10-acre site the towers sit on. Crestlight Capital, which has offices in Detroit and New York, is planning to keep the office towers located at 6000 and 6100 Fairview Road. But the firm now wants to bring 300 apartments, an additional 112,000 square feet of medical office space and nearly 40,000 square feet of retail, according to a rezoning petition filed last week with the city of Charlotte.
