Yeah, there was a goal of turning that lot into a ramp with linier retail spaces. I'd have to imagine that's still a long term goal. Hopefully it'll be done soon ish with the amphitheatre going in and parking going to be squeezed. With air rights. I still think this type of project is going to be on the wedge lot on Cesar Chavez owned by Ellis and soon.

I'd have to imagine with the way Bridge St was trending before the stadium news, and the subsequent stadium and highrise development, that Bridge will see some significant density built and soon. I think anything East of Seward will basically be part of downtown (I consider downtown to end at either the river or 131, depending on the day) but what I mean is it will grow in height and density.

As someone who is a height queen, this is the perfect height for that location. This is quite exciting.

5/3 Building converting top 7 floors from office to residential
Cookin_peacocks replied to Zads's topic in Grand Rapids
I've been hoping for a residential project north of Lyon for some time to help activate that area of DT. Now if we can just get more storefronts.... I wonder if the old University Club pool will be part of the amenities for the apartments. -
This is kind of what sports fans here have been hoping for since the Rampage disappeared. The NLL is like the Arena football league. It's the major league it box lacrosse. The games are on ESPN. The cities that embrace it, EMBRACE IT. I already told my wife if this happens, Im getting season tickets. If the rumor is true, I'd expect it to get announced once the season is over. There's two weeks left. For reference, I dug around and found an NLL message board, and when a Rochester season ticket holder called their ticket rep about a renewal, they got a "were examining things internally, we will reach out to you later" response. And the general feel was "that ain't good" I'm half tempted to go to the arena and ask someone myself, but I doubt I'd get any sort of answer.

My friend from Rochester, New York just dropped this on me Rochester knighthawks may move to Grand Rapids. The Knighthawks are an NLL team. Box lacrosse. It's a huge regional sport. The Buffalo Bandits, for example, play in a 19,000 seat arena that they share with the NHLs Sabres. I've been hoping for this for so long.

God I hope a small neighborhood bar opens there. I love little watering holes like that.

Man, the new studio Park tower already makes the city feel larger while traveling north on 131.

Got a question. "If approved the apartment building that would sit near the amphitheater, could be built as soon as 2026. It would sit at 21 stories high and include 475 apartments and a six story parking garage, all for the price tag of $271 million." https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/proposed-high-rise-plan-could-bring-hundreds-apartments-near-new-grand-rapids-amphitheater-soccer-field/69-f73ef255-8c1a-4e03-a530-258166d078ad?fbclid=IwAR3CucWXHqNdXvtpxCimCt3VfEH7fGP1qOTniOKna-bTnvFMNPFwF__gofQ So would this be 21 stories on top of 6 parking floors? Or 21 total?

Looks like the tower is to the north https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2024/03/high-rise-towers-would-bring-735-apartments-to-amphitheater-soccer-stadium-sites.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=redditsocial&utm_campaign=red

Love the height. Not sure I like it so far outside the traditional skyline. Look at me being choosey. This is awesome and exciting news. Let's go.

While some (Buffalo is a great example) AAA ballparks are larger, most are right around the same size as LMCU. 10-12k
-
That's some good density along that stretch. I love me some good infill. So I'm guessing the Duthlers food court idea is dead?
-
I don't want to increase capacity. I just want a dang roof and nice light towers

The ballpark would look so much better if they just added a roof to cover some of the stands.

So-called "Exodus" of businesses downtown - Is a crisis brewing?

Chasing Vanity salon on Wealthy/LaGrave has moved to 2345 Burton Just the office portion, correct? -

Why can't we have both? I'd love to have some shorter, but street active projects on the downtown outskirts while also one large new tower downtown. One of the biggest misses in my mind was not making the current Arcisure office a story taller and using the ground floor for retail and activating that stretch more. -

Plenty of rumblings They've outgrown their Studio Park office. They are outgrowing their auxiliary offices. I know they are looking for a good location. My guess is it'll be part of the big plan at Fulton and Market when that finally gets released -

It depends on what you mean by highrise, but Acrisure is definitely building a building with height. Now, if you're talking like 50 stories, yeah. It's gotta have residential. 20? Almost certainly that's what Acrisure will be looking for.. -
They originally thought it was a strong possibility. But the NHL went away with the regional sports model and embraced the national model (which is had mixed results to say the least)

Why does the city have such low height restrictions?
Cookin_peacocks replied to arcturus's topic in Grand Rapids
What is the current height restrictions? Where are they in place? What have they affected? This city needs some height to it. -
I have video. I saw the flames shooting and spreading. But they knocked it out so fast. For a few minutes, I thought this was going to a big big issue.

The building GRBC is in just caught fire. Saw flames coming out the roof.
