  1. Those were good people who owned that place and worked there. The influx of big corporate stores (aka Mars Music/Sam Ash) did them in. I still miss that store....it was like walking into a local bar but with guitars and basses and drums and mixers, etc everywhere. It felt like a family home...because it was. Days gone bye, I reckon. Cheers.
  2. For some reason memory flashbacks have me seeing this: I think grandparents might have been involved. Same company I think..and a small town somewhere off the map (but that's just me). Oh well. Cheers.
  3. There truly is no escape. Oh well. Cheers.
  4. It is still your best (and only option) at this point on two wheels and pedals..... unless you want to bike all sidewalks (or flat out ON the street). I ride Livingston at least once a week (sometimes twice) from the Lynx Bus station to the Executive Airport. Occasionally I have to swerve onto bricks or sidewalk...but it is generally pretty okay. The construction downtown provides a bit of a challenge but from Eola Heights to the Milk District it is almost always smooth sailing. Navigating the Mills intersection can be a bit tricky at times (as the paved bike lane briefly ends)..but is easily doable. I do not know when the Anderson Street trail will come to fruition. I hope it does soon (and I hope no trees near the Wetlands/Cemetary come down). ....BUT....until then....Livingston Street IS the best east/west channel for bikers in the downtown area. Cheers.
  5. Orlando Melbourne Airport voted most scenic in America: https://www.melbourneflorida.org/Home/Components/News/News/7384/381 Didn't see that coming. Anybody flown in or out of there? Cheers. p.s. apologies if this off topic.
  6. Once upon a time this was Abney's Music Center (I couldn't find an actual photo). I spent many weekends there (in my younger days) and Ronnie (and company) where the nicest folks you could imagine. They greeted me by my name every time I entered that building. I bought a few guitars, mixers and multitrack recorders there back in the day...and the bear mosaics (on the exterior) are the stuff of legend. Great memories. Cheers.
  7. Wow...that's harsh....but good for you. Agreed. Yes it is. Got it. This. Also this. I am resigning from this topic for now. My feathers have been "in a bunch" for a couple of days (for other reasons)....and I mean no disrespect to anyone. I have lived in the downtown Orlando "area" for a long time. Some changes I welcome. Others I do not. We can all agree to disagree (or vice versa). Have a nice weekend (and get on your damn bicycles and go for a ride). Cheers. JRC.
  8. I've always loved the local "feel" of this (and the surrounding) areas. Local bars...local restaurants...local home furnishing shops...all using EXISTING buildings in the area....recycling and repurposing them. This is just another homogenized corporate "dump" in this neighborhood. I may be alone but I find it depressing...and that these neighborhoods/districts will slowly lose their identity. That's all. Cheers.
  9. Oh FFS....there apparently is no escape from this? I like my nearby neighborhoods quiet and LOCAL. Dammitt.
  10. Yeah...I found another photo. It is right next to the path but about another six or eight feet to the east (just out of view). Cheers.
  11. Went up to the bridge again today. The area is STILL fenced off...but the bridge is complete. Someone posted a photo on REDDIT: There are new areas of poured concrete but the wood looks just as it did before. This view is from the east. I do not see the memorial for the two boys (RIP) on the left. I wonder if it was temporarily removed? Obviously a bit of excess material laying around. Hopefully it will open soon. Cheers.
  12. Checked out the Cady Way Bridge again today. It looks done. I had a look (from the glorious Aloma sidewalk) and the span has been fully restored. There were a couple of workers walking back and forth on it. Barricade fencing was still up, however (maybe last minute inspections?). Hopefully it will open very soon. I'll investigate again on Friday. Cheers.
  13. AT LAST progress has begun on the reconstruction of the Cady Way Bridge. I biked out to Forsyth Rd today (to have a look) and work crews were on site building with the help of a really large crane to lift the wooden pilings. See attached photo of said crane: Sorry. Couldn't help myself . (The above photo is actually of my third cousin's neighbor's brother-in-law named Darryl). There was (in fact) a large mechanical crane on site and it appears that we will be cruising Cady Way Trail in its entirety again very soon. Happy Weekend and Cheers! JRC.
  14. This is very sad news. I first saw it early this morning. Apparently no vehicles were involved. RIP to the cyclist and condolences to all who knew this person. Be safe and ride safe everybody. Cheers.
  15. Yeah. I noticed that. There is a fire hydrant at that corner (and perhaps other underground utilities) that probably factored in. Cheers. Went by there today. There were work crews on scene and it looks like the fire hydrant has been removed [EDIT: the hydrant was not removed...it was simply relocated several feet and is now out of the way] and workers were rearranging things about three feet below ground (addressing utility concerns I assume). It looks like the city is gonna widen that Executive Airport crossing at Livingston/Sheltair. That is a good thing. The area between Fairgreen and Colonial is plowed up (mostly) but some power poles and signs are gonna have to come down for that short section to work (as a rideable area of trail). I guess we'll see. Cheers. JRC.
  16. "Pine Duff" was my DJ name (back in the day)..but I digress. Hey dcluley98 where was photo #1 (with the truck) taken? Been awhile since I circled the Lake of Eola but I don't recognize that view. Just wondering. Cheers.
  17. Hmmm. I'll give it a shot someday soon. I actually don't mind the route I've been doing (aside from the bricks on Lake Highland from Ferncreek to Mills)...but I will check out your Terrace Blvd route soon. Thanks. Cheers.
  18. Okay. I only normally bike Ferncreek from Illinois St. north (to Lake Highland Drive) en route to the urban trail (sometimes in reverse). Cheers.
  19. I can't read the article due to pop-ups/paywall....what did it say about bike lanes on Ferncreek?
  20. Preliminary photo discovered on the web: Please note that I no longer require training wheels. Also...I wish Cady Way was paved in wood planks (and not concrete). Happy weekend everybody. Cheers.
  21. Yeah that looks about right. I went by there again today and the photo I'd posted was a bit off (with my estimate of the angle of the building foundation). It definitely parallels the rail lines like in that old photo. Bulldozers and shovels are chopping it to bits as we speak. Thanks for the input, everybody. Cheers.
  22. Interesting. Good find. It does look like a tall (large) structure and the location looks about (or pretty close to) right. The foundation I saw was very deep in the ground...necessary for a building of this size, I reckon. Anyway... Cheers.
  23. Do your sleuthing dude (as only you know how to do). This is kinda where it is (to the best of my memory): (size and locale might be "slightly off"..but not by much). Cheers.
  24. Biked the Urban Trail today. Heading southwest (approaching Magnolia Ave) the trail borders the OUC Lake Highland Substation on the left (rail tracks on the right). I do know that the substation is expanding: LINK. A huge amount of earth has been excavated....and it has exposed what appears to be the concrete foundations of a long lost structure there. Just wondering if anyone might know what it could have been. It's in the "angle" of Weber St and Highland Ave....just northwest of the current substation. Whatever it was it was fairly large. Just curious. Cheers.
