  1. Hmmmm. I don't see how traffic would be affected adversely. There really isn't anything else going on at that stretch of South Street besides a few auto shops (which close early). Currently there is still a "back entrance" road to the laundry from Primrose. Not sure if that is gonna continue to exist...but it would certainly help if access from there was improved (currently it is "partially" a dirt road). I'm just glad the property is not gonna be a new Wawa, CVS/Walgreens or another "apartment/shopping" complex. That would really make traffic significantly more congested. Also...more breweries/brew-pubs is never a bad thing...but that's just me. Cheers. JRC.
  2. Interesting. ALSO...the city has finally fixed the "fire hydrant" area (at Livingston and Maguire) on the OEA stretch of the Lake Underhill Trail (enroute to Cady Way). Just thought I'd post the update. Cheers.
  3. New brewery opening on South Street in the Milk District. It's gonna be in the old South Street Coin Laundry spot (literally swapping from one kind of "suds" to another). Per Bungalower: Twelve Talons Beerworks I used to drag my clothes from Eola Heights to this very laundry facility for years (I might have even smuggled in a refreshing canned beverage or two during wash days). I actually live closer to it now than I did back then. I hope they can find a creative way to reuse the existing building structure. Also...LOTS of room for outdoor areas there. Best of luck to them. Cheers.
  4. Yeah...I happened across The Right Stuff filming (on site) several times last year....twice in the Bel-Air neighborhood and once down by Lake Cherokee (the vintage cars and costumes gave it away). Thanks for the info on that. Cheers.
  5. Biked through Eola Heights today and there was a massive film/tv shoot going on near the intersection of Cathcart and Harwood. Carthcart was closed from Livingston down to the Handy Pantry. There were cast and crew and production equipment all over the street. I'd seen a collection of large trucks parked at Sorosis Women's Club yesterday and wondered what they were there for (now I know). Anyone in that area got any idea? Just curious. My old place might end up being in a background shot there. Cheers.
  6. Well...I wasn't gonna...but I guess I am: Cheers and Happy Holidays, folks. JRC.
  7. Green "bike/pedestrian alert" crosswalks starting to appear on the trail networks: Several already laid down on the OEA route (connecting Underhill to Cady Way) as well as the Urban Trail (including the Bumby path): Green Ways I like it. Cheers. JRC.
  8. Layer Elemetary (Cross Seminole) Update: Pavement being put down: The new paved trail is gonna "right turn" at the powerlines. Riders of the CST will be familiar with "riding underneath the powerlines" at this section (just past the metal scrap yards)...existing trail photo here: The trail is gonna pull "right" (from the 419) at the powerline area...unclear as to how it is gonna navigate that large mulch facilitly. Here is a map (and a bit of speculation): Links for more info: https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/seminole-county/os-ne-seminole-county-gaps-recreational-trails-20201204-3vrqvvhxwrhi5dmtlzirmu3q44-story.html https://www.bikeorlando.net/cross-seminole-trail.htm#latest Happy Holidays and Cheers.
  9. Yeah...I agree mostly...but that Forsyth crossing can be brutal at times. Trail crossing signs are regularly erected in the "island" of that crossing only to get repeatedly mowed down by distracted drivers. The metal stump remnants (of them) are there right now. I see bikers ride to the mid section of that crossing and wait for traffic to clear. Not safe at all. I'll sometimes wait several minutes there just to make sure all is clear to cross. I am not really a cautious rider ( I curb hop and go off trail a bit) but I am a safe rider...and safety for all is the end goal here. Anyway...if flashers are all we can get at Forsyth I reckon it is better than nothing...but I would still cross that street with caution no matter what the conditions. Cheers. JRC.
  10. I can confirm that it is still there (bolted to the Maguire/Fairgreen street sign). Maybe they forgot to remove it or maybe they are gonna wait until that section of trail is "officially" declared open. Something new today is the start of crosswalk warning flashers for both Fairgreen Street AND Amelia Street (in front of OEA). Metal bases have been bolted down and several of the poles are already up. The Fairgreen flashers are welcome but I cannot ever remember having to wait more than a second or two to cross Amelia. Not complaining, though. More safety is always better. Crosswalk flashers are being put up where the trail crosses Palmetto Ave near Goldenrod as well. To be honest the one crossing that needs help the most is Forsyth Rd. That crossing can be quite a "roll of the dice" during the week. I'm not sure regular warning flashers would suffice there, though. The road is too wide and traffic too heavy (and fast). Ideally a traffic signal (like at Tuscawilla Rd) would be much better. We'll see what happens, I guess. Hmmm. Well... whatever you feel most comfortable riding, I reckon. Since they widened the trail starting at Longhorn Steakhouse I've always just preferred crossing Colonial at Maguire. Plus I often shoot over to Lake Druid en route to the Urban trail or cruise up the Bumby trail en route to Mead Garden and Winter Park. I sure wish they would improve the ramps (from the street) at Colonial though. I saw some dude flip right over the handlbars and faceplant on the sidewalk there not too long ago (he was okay). Anyway, cheers and happy weekend everbody. JRC.
  11. I can't recall seeing it there yesterday. I'll have another look tomorrow. Whenever I used to pass that sign I'd often ponder how many new riders would end up down by Petsmart wondering the where the heck to go next. Never biked through that parking lot myself. Oh well. Cheers.
  12. Just a brief update...the Underhill/Executive Airport connection appears to be officially open. All the " sidewalk closed" signs have been removed. I rode it today. It is nice (and will improve once the newly planted trees/groundcover mature). A few things to note...the path is still "bottle-necked" at the OEA crosswalk (as the "fire hydrant" area has not yet been fixed). Also...from Fairgreen Street to Colonial the trail is a little wonky. Crossing Fairgreen (heading toward Colonial) there is a slight rise in elevation (resulting in a curb along Maguire with a drop off of over a foot in height...so be careful). Just past the storage facility the trail narrows to sidewalk width (again) with a concrete curb (on the storage facility side). It does not appear (at least for now) that any improvements are to be made at the Colonial crosswalk. I will update again if I see any work progressing there in the future. Cheers and happy trails. JRC.
  13. Hey there smileguy...I tried to do it myself...but... Seriously, though...thanks for submitting the request. I nearly flopped and face-planted next to a passing (speeding) motorist but luckily got both feet down and skated to a halt. Hopefully the street sweeper has an "acorn bag" attached to the suck mechanism. I'll check it again Sunday/Monday. It's from Bumby to Ferncreek where the worst of the acorn skid-fest is (heading west). Yeah...Livingston is a bit of a mess (at Eola Heights) but at least I get to detour through my old stomping grounds once a week (although riding the bricks rattles my fillings loose). Cheers.
  14. Ditto on that. I submitted the same. Cheers.
  15. Saw a few signs along the Cady Way Trail the last few days and dug up this: Cady Way Little Econ Connection Bridge Fingers crossed. Cheers. p.s. Thanks for the Urban Trail news, dcluley98. ANY improvements there are most welcome. Cheers. p.s.s. Could somebody please vacuum/sweep the acorn debris out of the Livingston Street bike lanes? Man...I nearly flipped and flopped over riding there this week..it's like biking on marbles. Oh well...I digress. Happy weekend folks. Cheers.
  16. Yeah...I remember the car dealership that is now a Floyd's on Mills Ave (I pass by it on Urban Trail bike rides often). It was a used car lot with a garage (with the rolling door). I'm happy the ABC building is getting recycled. That ABC was my go to "refreshments" store for many years. There wasn't any room for them to expand there (aka the ABC Superstore on South Orange Ave) so I reckon it was eventually doomed anyway. I'm just glad they repurposed the existing ABC structure. Cheers.
  17. Passed by there today. Looks like all the retail spots have transparent "roll-up" garage door store fronts. Interesting concept (I guess). We shall see. Cheers.
  18. Well...there is that. Seems like they could roll out an asphalt trail along the ditch (minus the overpass) in short order (if they wanted to). Oh well. Cheers.
  19. I ride Little Econ once every few months (from Cady Way). Gonna try to hit it again this weekend (weather permitting). That gap is right there for the taking...but nothing has been done thus far. I don't know what the hold up is. Obviously the 436 bridge/overpass (that is/was planned) is gonna be quite an undertaking...but the space is there for a trail from Baldwin Park (at 436) to the trail at Partidge/Forsyth. It would be just along a ditch (tributary to the Econ?) that has plenty of interrupted space for a trail from Semoran to Forsyth. The space is there already. I don't when when it is gonna be started. I could actually live without the 436 flyover (at least for now) to avoid biking down Hanging Moss Rd. But...still....(jarring sidewalk and hair-raising road ventures be damned)...biking those few golden miles of the the Little Econ Greenway (along the river) is worth it all. Cheers.
  20. I haul my bike out to the West Orange Trail once in a while. Every time I ride that trail I am shocked at the development changes that I see there. I'll see what I can find out. Cheers.
  21. A few brief trail updates. The Underhill connection from OEA to Fairgreen Street is almost done. There is a small area at the OEA entrance (at Livingston) that needs to be addressed (the fire hydrant section)...but the rest of it is complete. ALSO...the city has planted a boatload of trees on that stretch. Some Crepes (and other species) have been planted on both sides (when space has allowed it) about every 15-18 feet...but also a few 15 foot mature palms have been placed there at the intersections. Construction from Fairgreen to Colonial is a mixed bag. Two Thirds is gonna be "trail width" but the last 50 yards (towards Colonial) looks like it is gonna be existing sidewalk (due to light poles, etc). Cady Way Bridge is OPEN as I'd mentioned in an earlier post. Also...the Cross Seminole "Layer Elementary Gap" seems to be stalled (for some reason). No updates there. I'll post again when news is available. Cheers.
  22. Love that place. I remember actually seeing a few films there (when I first moved down here). Weren't the chairs wooden and on some spring mechanism (hence the "rocking chair" name)? Long time ago. I was quite young....but I remember it being sort of the "last place" the recent feature films played before they were relegated to VHS and Blockbuster. Of course Rocky Horror Picture Show played there alot. Seen a few concerts there as well over the years (after the Dove days). Glad it is still around. Cheers.
  23. Good news, folks! I'd emailed Orange County Parks about an ETA for the Cady Way Bridge re-opening on Thursday. I just heard back this morning that the bridge passed final inspection late yesterday afternoon and is now OPEN. So.....shake your tail feathers, dust off your bike, head to the trail and ride it like you stole it! Cheers!
  24. Ahh...got it. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers.
  25. Apologies in advance for my laziness (as I am too tired too search)...but could someone fill me in on what is going up between the Lynx Bus Station (and Orange Ave) bordering Livingston St? That area has been fenced off several months. Just curious....as I see it weekly on my Urban Trail rides. Again....sorry if I missed it (coconut pie in the face if required). Cheers.
