  1. Yea, what's up with the leaning tower of Tryon?
  2. Yep, Charlotte had some treasures. I remember (as a very young kid) the old YMCA, Pound and Moore Co., and other treasures. I agree that it would be great to see these structures still here. I am afraid that the days of the nice little shops like Charlotte had decades ago are gone forever. Land and building costs make it difficult for small entrepreneurs to exist. Looks like the best we can hope for in uptown is a Steinmart or similar. Many of us wish for a reincarnation of Belks uptown. Places like Charleston haven't become a banking or finance center like Charlotte and can fortunately keep small shops and great old buildings. Even London, my favorite town, is losing lots of its old central city pubs, great bistros, and little tourist offices, etc. to new, larger structures. I'm excited with much of the change, but it is a shame to lose so many jewels.
  3. When I moved back to the area, I remember (and it still happens) I would be interested in a particular posting. Whjle following the posting, I would continue on the same subject and find photos that I thought were related to the topic (which was Charlotte area) and they would actually be some insignificant, uninteresting structure(s) of some place in Newhaven, Indianapolis or some other place which the poster assumed was better than what was focused upon in the topic. I believe that things that are personal and not relative to the discussion should be posted where the topic fits. For example, the topic of this thread is "uptown-project news." For every project planned or in the works, I could post 50 related photos from a number of places, but what would be the point? For example, the structure in Cincinatti above. How is that to influence the topic of uptown Charlotte. It isn't an unusual building or even interesting, only to the person posting. With a little imagination the station in Cincinatti looks like the WWI war museum in Verdun, France except for the headstones. Since you aren't going to "whine" over my "passive aggressive" KFC post, I won't whine over your subliminally passive aggressive response. Have a good day and I will try to modify the way my clock ticks and stop such responses. But as you know, I have failed in some of my past commitments. Have a great day, seriously.
  4. I suppose that he had a couple of homes. I was visiting my cousin in Connley Springs that moved there from San Diago and he was driving my wife and me around showing us interesting this. I was surprised to see this large house that was the home of Col. Sanders for many years. I don't have any information either, but I will see if I can dig up some.
  5. Thank you. I'm just hopping on the bandwagon with others. A McDonalds in Casablanca is just as significant as a Walgreens in Atlanta or other insignificant structures in other random places that have been welcomed on this thread. This particular McDonalds represents questionable/unusual use of prime real-estate which corelates with the criticisms posted regarding the conversion of parking lots into highly criticized, unpopular new structures uptown. O.K. maybe the gate to the Colonel's house was a bit much, but a pinch of interesting trivia is usually welcomed. Did you know that the ole boy once lived near Hickory? Now you know, and your life is a wee bit richer. You're welcome.
  6. And the attached below looks like the entrance to a royal palace near Hickory that is fit for serving a finger lickin meal for King Charles.
  7. My prayers have been answered. Got to go! I'm off to W. Sugar Creek Road.
  8. As long as we are giving examples of businesses that are not really relative, I thought I would post this photo of McDonalds in Casablanca, Morocco that is directly on the beach in an unbelievable spot. I actually ate next door at a great Moroccan place, but I thought I would post something irrelative myself. Maybe we can build a McDonald's on Sugar Creek?
  9. Me too. I don't care what they say, it's better than a parking lot.
  10. What I would like to see is more retail at all levels, small diners like the ones that once existed, improvements in transportation to those outside the inner-city (lake area/Ballantyne), safe/walkable access to important places like the Amtrac rail station, NCMF, midtown, Elizabeth, Midway-Plaza, and the new North Camp area from uptown. Let's also throw in a planetarium, a movie complex, ice-skating/entertainment venue, and maybe even a hop-on-hop -off bus for tourists. I believe the one difference between me, and some others is that I visualize all of this coming eventually (not fast enough) as we grow. We can't simply turn into a giant crowded city exploding with shoppers and pedestrians overnight. Besides, we lack a river, beach, or a mountain in the city like practically all cities the size of Charlotte or larger enjoy. Nevertheless, we manage to flourish without and outpace practically every other city. I am not a republican as assumed (but definitely not a democrat either) however, I do believe the city could accomplish wiser invests of tax dollars than subsidizing multi-billionaire Tepper with his venues and backing the electing of more city savvy/educated/successful business and investment people with successful pasts and focus on all people sitting into the city council. It should be an organization planning for a safe great city for everyone to enjoy and envy. People need to simply see that we don't have the population needed at this point to fulfill their dreams of being a bustling NYC. Unfortunately, we also don't have enough motivated newcomers moving here interested in investing or getting out and present new and exciting horizons. Bottom line, I'm fine enjoying the growth. I spent many of my greatest years living in London where blue laws were rampant, bars closed at 11:00 pm, and the streets were dead past 10:00 except for a few drunken Irishmen, rowdy futball hooligans, and me. Look how it has changed.
  11. What "aims" are you speaking of, and what do you feel is keeping Charlotte from being a bustling 18-24 hour destination? What do you suggest? Would keeping bars and restaurants open 24-hours a day do the trick? I don't really hear complaints about Charlotte being a sleepy town. What around-the-clock American city do you feel could serve a positive influential model for Charlotte to follow in regard to uptown enhancement and future? Being that Charlotte is growing like crazy, do you not feel that the city will eventually grow into a place you find highly acceptable without remediation, goal setting and measuring? I think we are lucky being somewhere that is growing like crazy and seeing the change that come with growth, most of it anyway.
  12. I could post 100 squares or buildings that would be nice to have, but it would be pointless. this is about "Queensbridge" and area, not the Streets of San Francisco or other places not relative to this posting.
  13. I can't believe that we will have to wait more years for this project to be completed. Holy crap! we sold the facility to the wrong foundation for $1. God knows what kind of great facility we could have had if we hadn't been so stupid and given to the wrong foundation. I hope that the head of the foundation is investigated as he certainly didn't buy the old theater for the purpose of bringing the city forward. I wonder what it took to convince the city council or whomever to approve the delay? In the real world, when a person defaults on a contract, they pay a fine. The foundation is asking, and obviously getting, a reward and an extension. Over ten years and we still don't even have the renovated theater. Take the place back and sell it to someone that is honest and responsible.
  14. It is really sad that the Amtrac station isn't in a walkable (safely) location. It i a shame that you can't do what you mentioned easily. At least it is only a five or ten minutes (with traffic) Uber trip to uptown.
  15. How about you do me a favor and respond to your own crap. I don't think that anyone on this board needs you to jump in and defend them. If you are looking for the "n-word" used in postings, you are in the wrong place. If your feelings are hurt and you are angry or sad, you might need to find a more sensitive place to sound off.
  16. Or, you could simply get off the train in Cornelius and grab one of the taxis that will be available and waiting to take to Jetton Park. Life will be soooo much better with the options we'll see with the Red Line.
  17. I don't know if the urban vs suburban growth is that disproportionate. Both are growing at extraordinary rates. I consider South Park, Medford, Sedgefield, Madison Park and other areas as urban. They are growing very quickly. The suburbs will continue their rapid growth. For many that live in the crowded areas of the northeast, having stretch-out room is a dream come true for many. Many move here to have some space. It is a luxury to them. It reminds me of when I lived in the Florida panhandle and friends from Miami would visit, and I lived in a house with a large pool and a 1/2 acre lot. Although my lot was status quo for the area, to them, that was a huge hunk of land and they were envious. Anyway, we need to be on the list with our crane count. I really like growth and I think that overall, Charlotte is probably doing a pretty good job except for the lack of inner-city rail service.
  18. I have aways thought that Charlotte is and has historically been eliminated from lots of similar comparative information, as we are not supposed to be big and great. Many other large city officials that have historically looked at Charlotte as a midsize, backwoods Mayberry'. Some can't adjust to Charlotte's growth and success in a relatively short time or admit that Charlotte is leaving them in a cloud of smoke in regard to those factors. They used to say "The south will rise. Well, "voila. In the past couple of years, Charlotte has become larger than Pittsburg, Baltimore, and Saint Louis in both city and metro populations. The cranes will increase and should be listed.
  19. Thank you. I knew we could come to an agreement. Maybe we can settle the issues overseas.
  20. Refer to my last sentence. Trump is white, strong, and tough on crime. The majority of judges and committee members in that area have openly discussed their hate for Trump. They don't want a strong white pers, and judges want the freedom to arrest and release. That's all I need to say.
  21. You have a Ph.D. in "Conflict Resolution?" Never heard of such a degree. Is that like communications or chat line? How much did it cost? I have years of hands-on experience in the Middle East. I lived in Saudi Arabia and Iraq and traveled most other countries. I was also a participant in the Gulf War including Desert Storm. I also have advanced degrees with serious areas of concentration. Have a good evening. I am going to escape from this place. I'd rather be back over "there" fighting or as we called it, "peace keeping."
  22. So you consider my answer "incredibly" racist? I have no time to waste explaining anything to snowflakes and apologists. You know what I meant, and that it was true unless you are blind or stupid.
  23. Those that have done what I have done are predominately patriotic Americans and have no tolerance for neo-Nazis, wokeism, or hate based on color and not behavior, and the general ignorance of history and geography seen in the U.S. They also believe that when a country is indiscriminately attacked without provocation, the sensible reaction is retaliation.
  24. Wow! Talk about "not" being specific. Who is the "entire group of people" that I "vilify?" Where does genocide come into the picture? Can you find Gaza on a map?
  25. Seriously, no, I don't. Neither one of us will change the world or even make a dent in it. I just enjoy chatting with other friendly souls. I've served my country, voted, paid taxes, and done my part. From the look of things, I've wasted all that time, and for what? The country for which I have fought in the name of freedom and peace is praising the wonder, peaceful Nazi like Palestinians that have no issue killing good, innocent people anywhere in the world. I have also wasted time in the midst of their terrorism. What constitution? Where is my bong?
