  1. I just looked at that website and they've already sold 32, million dollar condos in Lake Norman that aren't even on the water?!?!
  2. Is there a GC announced for this project yet?
  3. It will be done before RNC in August
  4. I need to try it out again because when I went, it was pretty bad. It was 2 days after that article came out and the owner opened the store an hour later saying they were so swamped the day before that they sold out of everything and he needed to go buy new ingredients (although he later admitted to staying up late watching the Thursday night football game at the restaurant and it was a rough morning). $20 crab cake came out without a single piece of lump crabmeat, it was like he went to the grocery store and bought every can of crab they had.. All of the sauces came straight from a Sysco jug into the serving bottles. I'm sure they have gotten better since then but it was not a good crab cake at all when I went
  5. So much better looking than the Bainbridge project, although both will add a decent amount of retail space along North Davidson. Should be called Camden Villa Heights but I guess it doesn't have the same ring to it..
  6. 4 servings of pasta can be made for that same $5 for dinner. Cooking at home is easily cheaper and healthier and the fact that people are doing it less and less is certainly contributing to our current obesity epidemic
  7. Strawn development is the whole bottom corner of this map view too
  8. Phase 2 begins immediately after completion of phase 1, looking for bids end of Q4 of next year. Phase 1 is scheduled to be 8 months of construction completion around October of next year, but if it gets pushed back it will backup phase 2. No mention of future tennant
  9. @Seabrooke You forgot the 180 key/120,000 sqft hotel! Probably going to be the 3rd phase after the larger office development. I think they said apartments, not condos, but I could be mistaken about that. The total residential portion is about 1/2 of this project with a significant portion of them being considered affordable housing because of this lands previous use, even though they didn't really mention that in the prebid.
  10. Bill Clinton ran a budget surplus during his administration. Your link mentions that in the supporting data below the chart, yet still shows him as the 4th largest deceit administration so not sure how reliable their data is. Looking at total debt added is disingenuous because you really should be looking at change in budget deceit spending. The Obama administration inherited a budget with $1.4T deceit due to tax cuts and reduced deceit spending even with the added bailouts and healthcare implementation that were required at the time, but yes drastically added to the total national debt. I'm with you on politically agnostic, I'm a firm believer that our first past the pole political system and 2 party system is the worst thing wrong with this country; but if you honestly look apolitically at our countries debt, it really is a one-sided conversation
  11. Well that's absolutely not true. The Obama administration reduced deficit spending while during one of the worst recessions faced in the US and Trump has ballooned deceit spending during the longest stretch of growth in history. I definitely agree with this point about economics in general, much more determined by congressional changes than the President, but still highly influential on budget focuses.
  12. Belmont, Villa Heights, NoDa are fairly well laid out IMO. But yes this is just silly. If you want a tacky abbreviated name it should be NoNoDa (North NoDa)
  13. Don't work for Little but there has been plans for a Publix on the ground floor of a new office development at 9th and Tryon floating around since 2016 but that was Furman/Axiom not Little, although I could see that site being upgraded into something larger than was originally planned. I think there was also talk of a Publix Greenwise store opening in the Amelie's development in Villa Heights
  14. If Microsoft is adding 1000 people I would strongly doubt they would chase expensive space instead of expanding their existing campus in Charlotte
  15. You can get to Uptown in 15 minutes from CLT. What were you looking for a Michelin star within walking distance?? lol
  16. Since I've gotten off Facebook I never thought I would miss comment sections, but there are a few moments of gold: "People spend their entire education and career in traffic design but move aside wiz kids here comes Randy with the answers."
  17. This spot is great and if they added a lane on McDowell it would be fully connected to the rest of the greenway via 7th street bridge. Its only like 2.5 blocks that need to be turned into a bike lane
  18. NIMBYs gonna NIMBY. You let ski chalets go up in Elizabeth and what's next?? Affordable housing?? Minorities!?!
  19. Definitely agree. If anyone is looking for an entertaining article, this was written describing the disclosings before WeWork's IPO. https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/15/20806366/we-company-wework-ipo-adam-neumann
  20. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article235054112.html This is another one that happened on Parkwood here in Charlotte within a week. The video posted to the story is CMPD going through pedestrian safety tips just as you talked about. This is a section of road that is supposed to be getting a road diet, but not yet. You have roads like Parkwood and Matheson that are 4 lanes with only 1 traffic light between Plaza and N Davidson for Parkwood, and 1 between N Tryon and Plaza for Matheson which has drivers routinely going 60 mph. There is an element of pedestrian safety, but if there is 1 crossing over half a mile or more, people have to cross the street on high speed lanes and you will continue to have traffic deaths
  21. https://redd.it/d33k3m Let's close it! Something drastic to set Charlotte apart from other US cities
  22. Even if you do this they are still new construction apartments that have a higher rental value than older units. People aren't paying an extra $200-300 a month for the pet spa, they're paying it because it is new apartment in a location they want to live in. Agreed here. But it isn't just that people are making money on the lending side for affordable housing, it is the the way we value land. To be honest there isn't a great solution to affordable housing and it will continue to get worse in every major city across the US and other developed countries as the population continues to grow and cities continue to urbanize. The land close to the urban core in growing cities is very valuable and if you want low income folks to occupy spaces there, you need to subsidize the rent or else they will be forced out of these areas. Developers are only going to price control certain units if there are other economic benefits to doing so. As long as land is a valuable asset here and not treated like it is in Japan, it is only going to get worse.
