  1. Yes, I-885 will be signed at the I-85/US 70 interchange in west Durham and the I-40/NC 147 interchange in south Durham. Here’s an in depth write up on it. https://malmeroads.net/ncfutints/fut885.html
  2. The airport stop has so much potential. I hope the people mover extends just north of I-85 to support Airport District related growth such as hotels, conference centers, office, airport related parking etc. It would also be nice if this light rail station allows an easy transfer to commuter rail in the future.
  3. This will be the most significant urban develop directly adjacent to I-85 outside of the Atlanta metro. Tons of potential here.
  4. It would be cool to see a CN tower scale monument. A 1000’ scepter would be appropriate for the Queen City
  5. Wilmington has a ton of potential. I’m glad NC is getting the most out of this port. I hope the proposed Cape Fear crossing is built to alleviate truck traffic within the next 10 years.
  6. The BRT line in Richmond has been very successful. Both Charlotte and Richmond are more similar than most probably know once you get beyond the whole independent city/county dynamic. If BRT is implemented in Charlotte on the right route, I have no doubt BRT will be successful.
  7. I’m having a hard time picturing the NC 16 project. Is that supposed to be I-485 instead?
  8. This proposal will make Raleigh’s skyline stretch from I-40 to Peace Street. Very impressive.
  9. Wow what a bad policy. There is a significant separation between the road and tracks on the BLE as opposed to some other systems nationwide. I wonder if this guidance comes from the FTA.
  10. Alamance County has been long served by Go Triangle bus service. Interestingly enough, Orange County is served by PART. As with all transit plans, a solid plan must be presented to the stakeholders for consideration. Go Triangle has not publicly submitted a plan to Alamance County. Orange County was presented with a solid plan that included light rail, and they supported it with an increased transit tax. Commuter rail is still many years away. Alamance County is in the same position as many of the counties surround Mecklenburg are in terms of future rail service. When a solid plan for the Big Bang is on the table, they will be afforded an opportunity to vote for a local tax that supports transit as well.
  11. Somebody with the City needs to get Kane on the phone! Raleigh deserves better for this site!
  12. I’m still bummed about the failure of DOLRT. I looked forward to seeing high quality TOD along the line. All of the major aspects of the project that should have been resolved a long time ago seemed to unravel at the most critical time. BRT will be successful in Chapel Hill and Raleigh if it’s built anything remotely like what Richmond has. I don’t think commuter rail will be generate that that much ridership between Raleigh and Durham. The biggest winners will be long distance commuters in Mebane and Selma.
  13. I could see these lanes working if transit signals were employed that gave the bus a head start.
  14. Agreed, but you can apply that same logic to most projects of this scale in NC. I wouldn’t cast aspersions specifically against W-S as they are taking substantial strides towards improving their downtown. Salem Parkway will be used exclusively for local traffic after the completion of I-74 to the northeast. Pedestrian connections around Salem Parkway have also been enhanced.
  15. Forgot about that one, I agree. NCDOT went all out on that upgrade.
  16. For what it’s worth, it should be the most aesthetically pleasing freeway in NC. Currently that title is held by the Capital Beltway in my view. Hopefully I-277 gets upgraded in similar fashion. Freeway aesthetics seem to not be a thing in NC.
  17. This will be one hell of a Jersey freeway. This is a NJDOT dream highway.
  18. I agree no one will be willing to make this walk, hopefully a free shuttle is offered if commuter rail ever materializes. This proposal reminds me a lot of the defunct Triangle Metro Center project minus the rail component. If this project is wildly successful as I suspect it will be, there’s a good chance additional dense developments will pop up around wherever the future station ends up.
  19. I love it. It provides branding opportunities that allow the area immediately surrounding A&T to separate itself from the highly stigmatized “East Greensboro” moniker. This area is much more established than the fledgling Midtown Greensboro area. They are creating new neighborhood monikers every week in Charlotte (see LOSO, MORA, and North End). I’d like to see this area continue to develop its own character while slowly removing the barrier between downtown and this area which can roughly defined by the Norfolk Southern tracks. A&T’s new engineering building along with the old post office redevelopment will go a long way towards helping that initiative.
  20. I believe CATS should change their sales pitch to NS. If CATS double tracks the O Line from Charlotte to downtown Mooresville. That brings in immediate revenue to NS where virtually no revenue is generated today. Improvements to the O Line would strengthen the position of NS during negotiations. Through a lease, CATS could take on maintenance responsibilities, community liabilities such as crossing incidents, surface condition complaints, drainage complaints, horn noise and trespassing. NS would loose nothing and gain everything.
  21. This venue will bring the pedestrian activity north on Elm Street to an area that can be desolate in comparison to the street activity to the south.
  22. Had the State had a process such as the one outlined by the Strategic Transportation Investments (STI) law passed in 2013. NC’s highway infrastructure would look much different especially in the Charlotte region. NCDOT is now able to use its funding more efficiently and effectively.
