  1. These are gorgeous. I really hope the street presence and retail on Tryon is inviting. My dream of a walkable, bikeable, and retail filled corridor from Camden and Tremont through Tryon into Uptown is slowly piecing together.
  2. Love fantasy football. I would be interested.
  3. I think there actually are balconies. They might just be hard to see in the renderings, but they might be tucked behind the glass curtain. It looks like there are on the site plans at least - I highlighted them in red here:
  4. I think calling in "South Park" in Uptown might even be a misnomer. To me, this is more like Rea Farms Uptown (which is exactly what it is). If you are 1000 feet away and its foggy you might think it is a classically designed, mid-20th century skyscraper. When you get closer to it, you can see the cheap materials, and all of the gilded ornateness starts to show. It is trying to be something that it is not, and it isn't pulling it off very well in my opinion.
  5. I just went over and counted. They are currently working on floor 32. Maybe Gilbane was counting something subterranean? Not sure.
  6. That looks a lot like the building that is already almost complete right at the corner of Summit and Merriman. Is another one getting built, or is this article just late to the party? I'm not a subscriber so I can't see the article. The building I am referring to is already visibly under construction on Google Earth:
  7. Haha, I swear I might be the only person in Charlotte who likes this building. I think the texture on it is really unique and cool looking. I've never seen the inside though. . .
  8. File this under very mildly interesting: I noticed yesterday how much darker this terracotta material gets when wet. The building completely changes color after a rainstorm. You can see the color of the tile when wet vs dry in the first picture pretty clearly on that left-most window. Sorta cool.
  9. The $150,000 average salary for their Charlotte workers sounds pretty nice too.
  10. I really want for this to be successful. The daily volume of bikes and scooters zipping around uptown at 5:00PM has given me optimism that Charlotte can quickly become a bikeable city. It feels like all these Rent-a-Bikes and Scooters may force the hand of the city to awknowledge that protected lanes for bikes are beneficial to the city fabric and well-being of its citizens. There is a lot of momentum right now, and if this project is successful, I hope the city looks at ways to connect Uptown with its sorrounding neighborhoods in all directions.
  11. The menu can be pretty hit or miss. I go to this restaurant all of the time, and I have gotten to the point where I usually just order some wings and a taco or the kim bap which are all awesome. My biggest complaint about this place is that it is usually impossible to get a table.
  12. Took a stroll through Southend's Gold District yesterday. 1-2. The old WePak building renovations underway. They uncovered part of an old painted sign on the wall. Anyone know what it was? It ends with a "KS" 3. 300 W Summit update 4-5. Accross from 300 W Summit. No renovations have started yet, but there are construction signs up outside this building. Think it is going to be a bike helmet company? 6-7. Max and Lola's Bodega looks to be about ready to open. 8. Building that houses Bardo and Yume. Two new restaurants. 9. Pasta and Provisions. So happy they kept the mural on this one.
  13. I walked by this lot the other day and remembered that there is hopefully going to be a giant skyscraper on it in the next few years. I checked the cbj article on this one and it said that FNB is aiming for a third quarter 2018 ground-breaking. Does anyone have any inside information on when they are going to schedule that? I am anxious for a tower in this corner of uptown, right outside the ballpark and BoA Stadium.
  14. I think I actually like that better than the original. Either way, for a 388' building it isn't going to make a major impact on the skyline, especially since it is being buried by DEC and LU. I am more interested on the ground floor aesthetic and what sort of retail they are able to attract.
  15. Jeni's Ice Creams got a splash of color. It looks really good. This area is coming together nicely.
  16. Here is a summer update. Noooooot a whole lot of growth.
  17. I had always thought Charlotte had a ton of tower cranes but then I went and visited the Navy Yard/Waterfront district in DC right outside Nats park. They had 13 cranes up and moving within about 6 city blocks. You may have noticed a bunch of them if you watched the MLB All-Star game or home run derby right behind left field. Its remarkable what that ballpark has done for that area of DC.
  18. It would be interesting to see an estimate of how much parking revenue the light rail would actually eliminate. Where are the people that park in the lots at CLT actually coming from? I feel like the parking lots mostly serve people flying out of Charlotte that live further outside the city and wouldn't be served by a light rail that connects to uptown anyways. The light rail, in my opinion, would be more of an alternative for the crowd that Ubers, taxis, or has people drop them at the terminal. Or people with long layovers as an easy way to get to and from the city. But hey, that's just a hunch.
  19. Today. Anyone know how many more floors to the base of the pyramid?
  20. What are the current ideas for how a light rail station will connect with the airport? I haven't seen any plans that give an idea of where the station would be, and how passengers will get from the light rail stop to the terminal. I am worried that if the station is all the way out on Wilkinson somewhere and the trip from the station to the terminal is a pain in the neck, that this will end up being a pretty underwhelming project.
  21. You can go back and read pages 100-101 of this thread where it was discussed in detail by some more knowledgeable users. I'm not sure if anything has changed since it was last discussed, but it sounds like the renovations were going to be considerably more expensive than originally estimated, and hence no movement on the property. I agree with you, it seems ripe for something cool.
  22. Its been discussed pretty heavily. A lot of people seem to think that it could go where the current Knight's stadium is located. I don't see how that could fit/work, but it would immediately be a top tier ballpark in the Nation if it could happen. Another suggestion has been that it could go where Carolina Pipe sits currently, if they decide to relocate. You could put it our in the Carowinds, Fort Mill area (Yuck). If the Panthers and Tepper DO decide to pack up and move to SC, you could knock over BoFA stadium and have a baseball park there. My favorite idea is to put it where the Brookhill housing development is currently. Those need to be demolished ASAP and I think a Ballpark would fit there perfectly - its close to the highway (and may incentivize the building of ramps onto 77N from Remount and onto Remount from 77S, which is needed), walking distance to the light rail, and the area around Tryon, Dunavant, and Distribution could be redeveloped into an engaging space for nightlife/bars/restaurants. It could also lead to a revamp of Southside Park across the street.
  23. The parking garage has started going up.
  24. The city hasn't put in sidewalks on the stretch from the Sugar Creek section to Divine Barrel/Bold Missy. You literally have to walk in the street while cars whizz by you. Its also a sketchy walk. While walking from 36th is further, definitely choose that option over the walk from Sugar Creek.
