Inner Loop - CBD, Downtown, East Bank, Germantown, Gulch, Rutledge
bnacincy replied to smeagolsfree's topic in Nashville
I kinda like having the street vendors there....particularly the ones selling hot dogs, gyros...etc. But Lower Broad does get crowded so it would probably be best to keep them just off Broadway...3rd-4th Avenues and also have them on Commerce Street where the foot traffic isn't as heavy and the sidewalks are wide. The food vendors perform a useful function in that food consumption after a night out drinking can help folks sober up-necessary in a car culture such as ours. -

I noticed that as well when I was down there. I'm wondering if that had anything to do with the storms (not to mention the tornadoes) that had come through recently? If not, hopefully that can be cleaned up soon. -

Back in Cincinnati after a few days in Nashville for the New Year. I drove down to Broadway on Sunday and noticed there were no Raising Cane's signs on the building they were renovating-anyone know anything about that? Still stunning to see everything that's going on there. -

Nice Stuff....from one Queen City to another, Happy Holidays! -
Personally I'd like to see the old Sheraton Capitol Hill torn down and the Ritz built in that location-as long as there is below grade parking. That would get rid of the world's ugliest parking garage and help fill a hole in the skyline.

That would be very expensive and the only reasonable place to put a downtown station would be Union Station. But in the long run, it may be worth it.

Wow! Wasn't aware it was that many trains a day....thanks for clarifying.
-
If CSX is required to share the rail with Amtrak in some places perhaps there should be a law enacted to require CSX and other freight carriers to share the rail with commuter trains. I think a case could be made that one incoming and one outgoing train a day would not unreasonably impair CSX's ability to operate its business-particularly if sidings were built at the commuter stations where trains could load and unload without hindering any traffic on the mainline. It certainly would begin to address a lot of traffic issues in Nashville.

There is some space at the junction of Bellevue Rd and Old Harding Rd in Bellevue where you could put a small station-the ideal situation would be to relocate the small strip center across Old Harding and put a station there. Or better yet find a way to incorporate the strip center into the station-best of both worlds.

Fairgrounds Speedway Racetrack expansion to 30,000 seats
bnacincy replied to markhollin's topic in Nashville
Nothing in Nashville can be compared to the Ryman, much less the Fairgrounds Speedway. What happened in the Ryman put Nashville on the map, pure and simple. Nothing else comes close. Ask British Airways-they are wanting to replace the 787 that services Nashville with a bigger airplane. You can thank the Ryman for that-not the Speedway, not even the Parthenon. And lemme say this-the Fairgrounds is no longer the Fairgrounds anymore-the State Fair has moved to Wilson County. As a consequence I think a referendum is needed in Metro. Let the people decide-amend the Charter to put something there that would be a greater benefit to the community than a speedway-or keep it as is and let Bristol redevelop it.- 457 replies

They should have bitten the bullet and built an entirely new stadium with a lower tier below grade similar to Nissan stadium. That would have lent itself better to further expansion in the future. But then again, if they keep having 2-10 seasons like this year, there won't be any need. On the other hand, a brand new stadium could have helped with recruiting-I say maybe. One position they don't need help with in recruiting is the punter-the current one is in the running for punter of the year. They always have good punters at Vandy for obvious reasons.

Is there space in Assembly Food Hall where Arnold's could possibly set up shop? Are there any other Meat and Three places in the Food Hall? Meat and Three restaurants are very Nashville-they need a presence somewhere in Downtown on the tourist trail. -

I wish they would rebuild the train shed as well with steel and glass so actual trains could use it again!

What the State needs to do is consolidate all its office space just adjacent to the Music City Central so everyone that needs to come into Downtown for work can catch a bus and have their office within walking distance. So I would keep the old Citizens Bank Tower and sell off the Polk and the Snodgrass Tower-the Polk Bldg. would need extensive reworking whether it would stay office space-such as a bank-or become a hotel-possibly adding additional load bearing structures-to this day it kinda scares me even to just look at it-and the Snodgrass Tower could be renovated in order to attract a major company to make it its HQ-I seem to remember back in the Haslam administration this idea was floated. -
Utterly unrecognizable from when I was there-1978-1983.

Schulman's looks like fun. Also nice to see at least part of the Southern Turf........is actually the Southern Turf! Would have preferred the entire building be the Southern Turf and the Sinatra bar somewhere in Printers Alley.- 2,037 replies

Since Nashville already has a replicate of the Parthenon, then why stop there? Let's have a new Pantheon on the Belmont campus, and if Vanderbilt wanted to get really serious about their football stadium, then a new Colosseum perhaps? Just sayin'....
