  1. Have not been inside since the renovation but it looks good from the outside. One change I wish they would make is to go back to the original name-Hillsboro Theater-Belcourt to me sounds too generic.
  2. What is going on with this? Everybody and their Grandmother can get financing in Middle Tennessee for anything from a 40 story apartment tower to a dog house except for this....I personally thought and still think it is a good concept. Boggles my feeble mind.......
  3. How about Nashville Metropolitan? Or Metropolitan Nashville? Sounds much more distinct than Nashville SC.........but that's just me. OR....Metropolis Nashville. Pays homage to our Greek influence and our form of Gov't. Short version: the Mets.
  4. It may be some people who are worried about the effects of traffic in the nearby neighborhoods and their quality of life. Something similar happened when the NFL came to town.
  5. They should put the State Library and Archives in the Kefauver building when the Federal courts move to the new Federal Courthouse. Save some money.
  6. What he said....Music Valley is for entertainment and hospitality, not office workers. Is that old Zayre's bldg. across from Genesco still empty? If so, that would be a good spot for some office space on that side of town-not across from Opryland.
  7. If CSX would say yes to commuter rail, the developers of Nashville Yards could build skyscrapers directly over the train tracks, like Hudson Yards in Manhattan. Commuter trains could offload passengers directly beneath where they work or at least right next door. Couple that with massive residential development in the Gulch and companies like Amazon will take Nashville seriously. Until then.....
  8. There's a buttugly IRS processing center right across the Ohio river in Covington KY. It's an eyesore right on the riverfront-the IRS should relocate to Cincinnati NKY Int'l Airport (CVG) and that location would be a great spot for a soccer stadium. Just a note-Cincy may not have its bid totally together yet but FC Cincinnati has been around a few seasons now and has been drawing tremendous support, so they do have that in their favor.
  9. Oops! Sorry about that.....I meant to say he should sell it to the city who in turn should make it into a transit center/park and ride for commuter/light rail/express buses. I'm a klutz on the computer.
  10. If I were the Nashville Yards folks, I would have bought that property and torn down the Hotel in order to put the new hotel there. Then on the property where the new hotel is currently being built, I would put up a space needle with the Flying Saucer (is that still in Union Station?) on top and the Polar Coaster ride built on the frame. Something fun to have on Broadway.....
  11. That gray colored paneling on that hotel behind the demo is downright ugly. Why anybody uses that color is beyond me. Because of it, the Children's Hospital at Vandy looks like a prison and the Cumberland bldg. on Church looks no better. Depressing.
  12. I would like it if they built it in some period architecture on 2nd ave between Church and Bank streets. I'm sick of looking at that parking lot-I was working at BWSC in the old Banner Bldg. on 3rd ave back in the 80's when those buildings burnt down -nothing would make me happier (well, almost) than to see somebody who cared to reconstruct those buildings down to a T and make that block vital again. But that's just me......
  13. I hate to beat a dead horse but there is nothing streetcars are going to give you that an improved bus service couldn't. Buses involve lower infrastructure costs, they are more versatile and easier to maintain. It's why most cities did away with streetcars after the Second World War. Cities expanded into new suburbs and extending streetcar lines became cost prohibitive compared to buses. The streetcar here in Cincinnati between downtown and Over The Rhine is currently running about 27% below expectations in terms of ridership. Right now it is little more than an expensive novelty and the mayoral candidates for next weeks election are hardly mentioning it. For 5 billion dollars you could bribe CSX into commuter rail and come out with a much more effective system that could share costs with the surrounding region. Please, for the love of Nashville somebody down there please contact your local representatives and see if the city has bothered to approach CSX since that company's restructuring. Just sayin'.
  14. I wish the city would trim those trees on 2nd Ave-you can hardly see the buildings to appreciate the architecture plus I'm a little worried about fire hazard-if lightning struck one of those trees and fire managed to spread to any of those buildings it could set off a chain reaction like the one that destroyed the buildings between Church Street and Bank Street in the mid 1980's.
  15. The city is apparently not paying any attention to what is happening with CSX....as I mentioned in an earlier post, CSX has gone through a major restructuring and has closed several "humpyards", including Radnor Yards. Someone in Metro needs to get back with them and see if any capacity has opened up. For the amount of money they are talking about spending they could have a serious regional commuter rail system which would carry a lot more people into downtown than street cars or buses. Not to mention a lot quicker as well. If they could come to terms with CSX perhaps Radnor Yards could be utilized as a massive commuter rail park and ride station so that West and South Nashvillians could hop on a train which takes them directly into downtown while avoiding the bottlenecks at I-440 and the inner loop. Speaking of buses and streetcars, since we already have Music City Star and Music City Circuit, why not call the regular buses and any future streetcars "Music City Link"? Couple that with a new design and color scheme it would be a big improvement over the current sliced pie logo which is looking seriously out of date. My two cents worth....
  16. Fisk and TSU were glanced over in the "Marathon Village" section but the rest of North Nashville was ignored.
  17. Er....what about Bellevue, Madison, Donelson, Hermitage, Old Hickory, Inglewood, Bordeaux. Antioch, etc?
  18. I like the Great American bldg. here in Cincinnati, don't care too much for the BOA bldg. in Atlanta, mainly because of the color. The crowns, if done well, can be a welcome addition and can add more definition to a tower.
  19. It's called commuter rail....since CSX has gone through a major restructuring and closed a few of its "humpyards" (including Nashville's) the city may want to reach out to them again and see if enough capacity has opened up if any to allow RTA to run Music City Star trains on certain routes. That's the only way you are going to make any kind of dent in the traffic. They've got to find a way to get CSX in the game-if the city leaders approach Amazon with the notion that Nashville has great mass transit because we're gonna have a streetcar running up and down Gallatin Road they will be laughed out of Seattle. Time to get serious.....
  20. I think you need a combination of things-cultural amenities, mass transit, good educational system, etc, that would make people and companies want to come here. Nashville is definitely on its way but I'm concerned it's not quite where it needs to be to attract a company like Amazon. The transit issue is a serious one as Nashville is way behind other cities in comparison.
  21. There is I think a perfect spot for it......the old State Prison site. There is plenty of space, river access, a rail spur right next to it and interstate access via Briley Parkway. Perfect location, but would be a bit of a controversial move as I believe it has been preserved as a historic site. Not sure, though.
  22. Living just outside of Cincinnati at the moment, but missing my hometown Nashville terribly! Might be in Nashville that weekend, but probably not til Sunday.
  23. Hello...bnacincy here, first time poster, long time lurker. As someone who used to work in state politics in Tennessee I seem to remember there was a project way back when where all 95 county seats would be connected to an interstate or major highway by a 4 lane highway. It was an economic development drive for the rural parts of the state.
