  1. Actually have been a fan for 20 years and remember the Super Bowl year, plus other good ones. Defense has carried us through the first 7 games and offense has awakened in the last 2, so maybe good things ahead. We should be 6-3, maybe even 7-2. When both offense and defense are clicking together we are somewhat awesome! We have beaten both of last year's Super Bowl teams.
  2. If I had not read the above I would not have known Green Hills was so awful. I've enjoyed it for many years, thinking of it as the most upscale mall in Nashville. And the traffic has never been a problem because I use the back roads. Having lived here many years I have become acquainted with a set of back roads that helps me get anywhere in town without encountering heavy traffic.
  3. The Westin has a classy interior and a stylish rooftop lounge. Its a big improvement over the Methodist Bookstore.
  4. Black Elvis' daily hangout is the corner of the McDonald's lot in Bellevue where he says to everyone he sees "you rock!" He always has an upbeat attitude. His dream is to go to Las Vegas and parachute from a plane in his Elvis outfit.
  5. Omni's a nice hotel. It has good restaurants on the ground floor and the exterior space between it and MCC is striking. I much enjoy using it.
  6. I thought of Detroit after I made my post. I grew up there. At the time Detroit was the 5th biggest city in the country with a population of 1,800,000 and the Penobscot Building was its tallest. My mother worked in the Book Building at Virginia Farrell's Beauty Salon and was also a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War 2, making P-38's. The trouble with Detroit today is that while the downtown is a museum piece feast for the eyes, a significant part of the surrounding area has been decimated. I didn't mean to say that I didn't like glass structures, but only that I preferred a mix of stone and glass, old and new, a city with heritage and texture.
  7. How about New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, maybe San Antonio. The Chrysler Building is my favorite New York skyscraper which I enjoy anew every time I see it. People fly thousands of miles and pay thousands of dollars to see old Paris. La Defense is a bore. But I am enjoying Nashville's development.
  8. The older elements are the eyecatchers on this project, but I do think they did a good job of adding new pieces that work well with the old.
  9. This project is very attractive and I haven't one negative thing to say about it except that, well, glass has a look of impermanence about it. Couldn't we have some other materials? Cities which came of age much earlier than Nashville have tall structures of stone and marble that are a feast for the eye and give a character to the skyline that glass does not create.
  10. The framework sticking up on top of the building is about the same width as the letters in the rendering. Could it be a support for them? Maybe there is going to be something there in addition to the letters. They have already departed from the rendering, so anything goes.
  11. Quality materials and workmanship from a time that knew about elegance and style. Glad it was saved!
  12. The very best photos of Nashville I have ever seen! (These are nice photos, but I am referring to the ones on page 277).
  13. The Westin has a certain amount of presence, it extends the downtown, and the stylish rooftop lounge affords the best view anywhere of Nashville's ever expanding core.
  14. Thanks for the hypothetical pics! I think two or three super talls are all that is needed to make Nashville look very cosmopolitan. No city can compete with New York, but some get credit for being large metropolises that only have 3-6 super talls. Where Nashville kills it right now is through what's at ground level, i.e., an attractive, compact urban core with a ton of things to do. I remember when Nashville had a nothing downtown and a main drag that was a porno district, and I had no idea that we would ever be where we are now.
  15. I have used the connector several times and have had it all to myself. I park free there and get out and enjoy the skyline view, then drive north into downtown.
  16. I have very little trouble getting around downtown. I'm using the new Division Street Connector which doesn't seem to be getting any use by anyone else. I can skirt the southern edge of downtown and cut north on whatever avenue I think will be the most expeditious. No problem. Dealing with traffic here is largely a matter of knowing the roads least travelled, the times of day that have the least traffic, then having the ability to relax, maybe while listening to 91.1 FM.
  17. I've lived in Nashville for a very long time, but have found the last several years really entertaining.
