  1. Yes. They are building phase 2 of the Thalia Creek Greenway project in the back towards the creek. Basically the trail will connect Virginia Beach Blvd and follow the creek to Independence, and eventually will include a crossing across 264 to Mt Trashmore. It's being rolled out in 6 phases. https://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/parks-recreation/design-development-projects/Pages/thalia-greenway.aspx Also there is definitely being something proposed for this site, its just still in the early stages. The applicant intends to purchase the property from the eco dev authority and develop it into a mixed-use project including apartments, hotel, retail, and offices. The number of units and development area will ultimately depend on factors such as CBPA buffers, wetlands, and the Thalia Creek Greenway walking path.
  2. This is on the other side of harbor park, opposite of the Pamunkey casino site.
  3. Honestly this is a great opportunity to get a good sized grocery store downtown, I think it's a no brainier. That way downtown can support more appartments.
  4. Meh. This is a waste of money chesapeke doesn't need a 25 million dollar athletic facility. They should just do minimal improvements at both schools athletic facilitys and put the funds torwards fixing their school overcrowding problem by building a new school.
  5. I was just looking. On one of the images of an article I found said" An artists rendering provided by the Pamunkey Tribe".
  6. Casino's also bring entertainment and a fun night out on the town, multiple bars and places to dance usually. It's something for everyone. I don't think you have to worry about the negative affect until the whole city is full of them, such as Atlantic City. It will compliment Norfolk nicely, keep revenues from heading up to dover and help redevelope that area. Win win, plus the design looks awesome from the image, technically another high rise right?

I've always thought that the interchange by harbor park made no sense. It's an incredible waste of space and too close to downtown.
  8. Checked the block 2 listing on divaris's website today. Not sure if we have seen this before, but they updated this brochure 1 day ago. Lease_Brochure.pdf
  9. It may be hard to understand but less lanes takes cars off the road and improves safety. Hamptons lanes are far too narrow for constant port traffic. They should drop the speed limit to 35, go down to 2 lanes, and add bike Lanes. If they truely want to eliminate Hampton as a port route they need to build the Patriots crossing at 564. The real traffic problems are more torward the midtown tunnel.
  10. Who needs a barcade when you have the Azalea Azalea Inn? This is awesome though. Hope it's big.
  11. Tons of love for Wilder. Restarting a program from scratch, moving up to FBS and pulling off a huge signature upset all within 9 years. ODU keeps getting more and more legitimate recruits every year.

We cant afford to loose the NS headquarters. I hope the city meets with them about this, maybe provide them with incentives to build a new HQ here and consolidate the Atlanta employees here.
  13. Meh. So I guess that means the barns and nobles section will be staying the same? Is this just temporary?
  14. I agree. When I first saw the framing go up, I was like that is so out of place. But with the brick facade. It surprisingly fits in very well. They did a good job on this one. I do agree though. More height towards St Paul's would have been better.
  15. Did not get a picture but this is going up very quickly. Foundation is basically done and they are starting to build up, looks like stairwells first.
  16. Correction 68 million. Light rail was 88 million and cost overruns. This should be put to a vote through way light rail was. This facility does look awesome and state of the art. I also get that it will draw national sports competions for track and field, and boost year round tourism. However, I feel like this is a slap in the face to the majority of VB residents. I just don't get how they can justify that kind of money for a track and field facility. I feel like the city is settling on this one because the arena fell through.
  17. Aren't they sending like 60 million on this? I think it's a shame that kind of money is going towards this when the city could of put up that money to back through arena deal.

Take all of VB and Chesapeakes office parks and put them in DT Norfolk and you have a really dense downtown. The problem is lack of centralization and cohesion.

I really don't see why we don't pursue mls more. They are in the process of exanding and are going to add a number of teams over the next ten years. Part of why you're hearing other cities names is because there are people making a case for that area. We have no one leading that charge. I think MLS has a 150 mil by in fee and likes urban stadiums to be apart of the proposal. Baseball will never happen hear because of mlb territory rights/laws. The O's barely allowed the nats and got the deal of a lifetime while doing so. No way they ever let a team relocate here. As you see that big banner in harbor park "This is bird land". Hockey will not be coming here ever probably. I love hockey and it's my favorite sport. But the truth is there's smaller cities/metros in Canada that can support a team easily. Look for Quebec City, Regina , and toronto (Second Team)to get a team before most USA cities. Basketball could work here, but without an arena its gonna be impossible to pull a team here. Just my 2 cents.

If VB FC were in USL, I'd love to see Richmond - VB rivalry.
  21. A site plan has been submitted. A one story restaurant has been propossed on the corner with a small footprint and fronting the street. The plan also calls for streetscape improvements east and south to each roadway entrances, in accordance with the rest of town center style.
  22. Is there any update on this one, or does anyone know what firm is designing?
  23. I was down there yesterday. Here is one of the stairs that lead to the second story plaza.
  24. I really don't understand this either. They should sell the land to developers. Every second longer they hang on to it is a waste of potential property tax revenue. Especially the Ft Norfolk and the Harbor Park area.
  25. Yeah same....I was thinking that with Norfolk selecting military highway as the route, Chesapeake would have announced that they are interested in extending that line south as part of this phase.
