  1. The occupancy seems really healthy currently. I’m only seeing two vacancies with one of them being in the foot court.
  2. Interested in the hotel flag. Hopefully it’s new to market.
  3. The ground floor retail certainly looks like a prime location for the long rumored South End Apple Store.
  4. This is an industry I am very familiar with. With that being said, while I cannot predict the future, the chances of Carowinds ever being redeveloped or moved is nearly non existent. Carowinds is not in a unique situation. There are countless other theme parks all over the world on large plots of land in rapidly developing areas that will continue to exist, most notably Disneyland. Aside from that, Carowinds is one of the most profitable theme parks under Cedar Fair (who has quietly and recently moved it’s corporate headquarters right down the street from the park). It is also one of the largest employers in the Charlotte metro area and brings in millions of visitors per year which equates to more money than an office or industrial park can offer. There are also plans in the very near future for the park to operate year round.
  5. I lived in this building for a few years. I’m sure the students who currently live there are not happy about being forced into the traditional dorms.
  6. An aquarium appeals to broad demographics. Not everyone (or most people probably) are interested in going to a NASCAR Hall of Fame.
  7. I should’ve known the hot replies were all off-topic. Does this forum have mods anymore?
  8. It’s pretty evident this will eventually be used for the new stadium and/or the accompanying entertainment district he has alluded to many times now.
  9. Suffolk Punch is taking over the former California Pizza Kitchen at SouthPark. It will be part of an overhaul of the West Plaza section of the mall, which also includes new play equipment for children and an open-air stage for live music and other events. There will also be an attached coffee/espresso bar in the mall food court.
  10. There simply isn’t anything in Uptown post 5pm on a weekday that you can’t do in other parts of the city. That is why it is embarrassing at this point that there still is no shopping district, or zoo, or aquarium anywhere in or around Uptown. There are various examples of how any of those three solutions are destinations in their own right that flood foot traffic in city centers all around the country.
  11. I also think security personnel at most of these buildings are simply there to collect a paycheck. Nearly every major office building in Uptown has 24/7 security who are more concerned about what you’re taking pictures of rather than the suspicious person nagging people in the complex.
  12. An aquarium is the easiest, most logical attraction that Charlotte currently lacks. Like it isn’t that difficult.
  13. This sounds like the same guy who approached me on Sunday night in front of Golden Cow asking for my food and jacket as I was in the middle of eating. He stands on the corner of Stonewall and Tryon yelling at people.
  14. They also still have 1,000 employees in NJ, including some in their former headquarters.
  15. There is no chance SouthPark converts to an all open air mall. As others have said, it really just isn’t necessary. The mall being enclosed doesn’t make it any less desirable to tenants or visitors because it’s appearance is kept up with and the area surrounding it is thriving. It would be great to have the outdoor portion of the mall where Dick’s, Reids, and the food court entrance is repurposed to include an outdoor shopping area, especially with the CPK space still sitting vacant. Another possibility is to connect the main mall to The Village at SouthPark.
  16. There are plenty of buildings in Charlotte to advocate for saving, this library is not one of them.
  17. The Overlook tower is 26 stories and probably my future favorite high rise in Charlotte. The Enclave is 8 stories.
  18. 2 pages in and already off-topic those stories are interesting to hear though considering I didn’t live here to experience Charlotte pre light rail
  19. Same designer as 110 East. I also agree there needs to be a new high rise thread for SouthEnd or let these projects have their own individual threads.
  20. This is a problem in most of the city IMO, especially on the highways. And I won’t even get started on the 10 different street light designs in Uptown alone.
  21. I hope the retail spots fill up soon, that area is severely lacking in quality food options.
  22. Isn’t a Shake Shack going here? It still hasn’t officially been announced.
