HomePortSupplyCo replied to joeDowntown's topic in Grand Rapids
Either way, It was delicious with excellent service last night. -
Proposed residential downtown Holland. The theme is "if your architecture ain't Dutch, it ain't much". https://www.hollandsentinel.com/news/20181121/eight-rental-units-proposed-for-former-reliable-sport-site dutch.pdf

The Grand River?! You mean GR has a River?
HomePortSupplyCo replied to GR_Urbanist's topic in Grand Rapids
Riverline. Simple and descriptive. -
Some crude phone pics of the building progress downtown Holland. Project at 7th and College and the Theater/Hopcat mixed use on 8th.

This is on top of 3 hotels currently under construction, 1 other hotel approved, and 1 other hotel being proposed this month in Holland. Wouldn't be surprised to see a hotel next to Herman Miller and the new Love's truck stop at the 16 street exit soon.

Saw that DG has an new urban concept called DGX that appears to put a little more value into aesthetics. Probably way too soon for this one to be converted/upgraded... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-31/rural-america-s-favorite-store-is-moving-into-the-big-city

Given those obvious limitations, I think they should land swap for the Verplank Dock property which is at the end of 8th Street right next to Boatwerks Restaurant.

A chance for any of you arm chair developers to offer insight into how to redevelop the old lakefront power plant in Holland. https://waterfrontholland.org/

Yet another project proposed for downtown Holland #miniboomtown https://www.cityofholland.com/sites/default/files/fileattachments/159_river_avenue_spr_packet_0.pdf

Correct. I believe they acquired the Courthouse Square Building after construction had already started on the building to the east. You can also see the nearly completed parking ramp in the background.
-
New development downtown Holland is still expanding in scope. The 2 buildings on right are now being proposed. This group of buildings would be immediately to the East/Left of the Hopcat/Sperry's Movie House rendering above. https://www.cityofholland.com/sites/default/files/fileattachments/68_w._8th_st._spr_packet.pdf 8th street Holland.pdf

Hopcat going in downtown Holland in the new movie theater/mixed use development on 8th Street.

The "Affordable Housing" Discussion in GR
HomePortSupplyCo replied to GRDadof3's topic in Grand Rapids
FWIW, I hit the pay wall via that link as well. I then searched for the article in Google News on my phone and it let me read with no issues... -
Correct. Prince made their money on automotive interiors and sold to JCI. The Princes financed the downtown snowmelt system back when it was losing out to the malls like every other small town. Lumir also owns many of the historic downtown Holland buildings. If we’re playing SimCity...I would put commuter trains to GR in and then that block next to the train station would be ideal for a large housing development with ground floor retail.
-
Don’t think the kids are involved. Definitely not Eric or Betsy at least... And speaking of Holland... Also mentions possibility of trains to GR for Artprize. http://www.wzzm13.com/mobile/article/news/local/holland-zeeland/chicago-to-holland-state-rep-pushes-for-tulip-time-train/69-526981205

The Pizza Hut downtown Holland was just purchased by Lumir Corporation and demolished yesterday. Lumir (Elsa Prince) now owns this entire block of prime real estate on 8th Street. You would think they have some sort of plan in the works to develop it...

The Grand River?! You mean GR has a River?
HomePortSupplyCo replied to GR_Urbanist's topic in Grand Rapids
Agreed. Some of that neon colored down lighting under the freeway to light the skate park at night would be perfect. -

North Channel Brewing opens today in Manistee. Can't speak about the quality of beer or food, but the space looks great!

Now we're talking! Think of all the tourism dollars from castle riverboat cruises along the Grand River.
