  1. Sounds like there's quite the story behind the vacant Witmark. The following is per reddit, and others seem to corroborate the story: https://www.woodtv.com/news/kent-county/buyers-interested-but-witmark-owner-wont-sell/
  2. More (rough) context for those that may not be familiar with Manistee.
  3. Looks like maybe its gray brick??? Which I think will look better than more plain gray panels.
  4. Thanks I sell them at Bluedoor on Fulton, Oh Hello on Monroe Center, and Reinspired Treasures in Alger Heights if you'd like to see them in person. Oh, and at Tanger, Rivertown, and Woodland in the My State Designs store. Along with many tourist towns of course. Hit 40 retailers this week, mostly in Michigan.
  5. Thoughts on the design? Would overlook the Lake MI beach in Manistee. Suburban Inns is proposing a five-story Hampton Inn & Suites hotel with 108 rooms at 101 S. Lakeshore Drive Plans for the interior of the hotel include a fitness center, lobby bar and an indoor pool with an indoor/outdoor spa, according to the application. The exterior plans include a patio with firepits and space for bocce ball, beach volleyball and shuffleboard. https://www.manisteenews.com/local-news/article/What-to-know-about-the-proposed-Hampton-Inn-plans-16064746.php
  6. After looking at this site, 475 Market across the street on the river may have been included in the purchase?? Site also has some interior pictures and prelim plans for basement parking. http://470market.com/
  7. yup. Grand Action 2.0, whose members include Carol Van Andel and Dick DeVos, is working to develop an ownership group to bring a United Soccer League (USL) Championship-level team to Grand Rapids. Once the ownership group is formed, which could take six months to a year, the focus would shift to finding a site to build — and how to finance — a roughly 7,500-seat stadium. “The community, I think, has quite a bit of excitement around this,” said Jim Zwiers, executive vice president of Wolverine World Wide and a member of Grand Action’s executive committee. “We’ve gotten a lot of really favorable feedback. We’re excited and we think it’s something that can happen for Grand Rapids.” Zwiers said it’s too early to identify those who have expressed interest in being part of the proposed soccer team’s ownership group. But he added that a “core interest-level certainly exists around potential funders and franchise operators.” Rough estimates indicate a stadium would cost more than $40 million.
  8. Looks like you're correct. They must have some plans for the Godfrey property in the not so distant future then. Otherwise you would think they would offer up space to the Antique Row stores for the time being. Sure they probably want a more permanent home, but being bounced around is the price for cheap rent I guess.
  9. Slight name change. Now known as the Ovation Building
  10. Can you share images now that it's public info GRDad? https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2021/03/historic-sligh-furniture-building-in-grand-rapids-eyed-for-753-unit-micro-apartment-project.html use ctrl A/C/V to read behind the paywall.
  11. Here's my proposal for a crossing assuming there are no plans to update the interchange. Could be a signature gateway bridge into the city. Takes advantage of the dip in the freeway grade. Seems like an overpass makes more sense here than next to the river as shown in the Market property proposal. Could make it Calder Red.
  12. All the more reason for a better way for pedestrians to cross the freeway at Wealthy. With an easier crossing, this could be great for the Downtown Market and possibly jump start South Division. Bonus material: Stumbled upon a fresh accident scene on the awful Wealthy overpass.
  13. Another view of the property with islands depicted in 1868 with a riverboat shown tied up just north of Wealthy on the east side and another steamboat almost to the Blue Bridge on the west bank. https://www.etsy.com/listing/736957466/grand-rapids-1868-aerial-view-map-on?ref=shop_home_active_38&frs=1
  14. Could this warehouse be integrated into a broader riverfront park as a covered park structure? Strip all the walls and leave the support beams and roof. Add artificial turf with some small undulating hills and walkways, small playground, etc. Would be a draw in rain/snow/heat. Seems like it could be a very unique repurpose of an existing structure. A quick/limited search didn't pop up anything like it. Maybe because it wouldn't be possible due to structural reasons in high winds? or a covered piazza with "outdoor" cafe's/restaurants on the fringes? Cut an oculus or two in the center for extra sunlight and airflow?
  15. Looks like the Shedd building would fit in that spot actually. The building alone is more like 5 acres.
  16. Is 700 units possible in the warehouses on Century just off Wealthy? How many units are in the Boardwalk building?
  17. If interested in the debate about skywalks, this podcast about the system in the Twin Cities is interesting: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/beneath-the-skyway/
  18. Haven't put much thought into this... But if did move forward, maybe integrate a downtown sledding hill? Not sure what elevation change a typical amphitheater has though. Maybe add some snowmelt stairs for both those sledding and as a winter excercise activity to go along with the nearby Planet Fitness?
  19. City Flats hotel in Holland is joining Hilton Tapestry Collection. Not sure if the downtown GR location would also be switching at some point?? https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/grrcfup-cityflatshotel-holland/ https://mibiz.com/sections/real-estate-development/cityflatshotel-in-holland-joining-tapestry-collection-by-hilton
  20. New development around the old mall in Holland. Looks like they'll demo some of the strip mall on the north end to convert to residential. https://www.hollandsentinel.com/news/20210203/shops-at-westshore-development-receives-initial-approval
  21. Some pricey real estate listings with new renderings are up for this project. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/159-S-River-Ave-505-Holland-MI-49423/2075612969_zpid/ This is across the street from the Holland Rescue Mission, which is next door to Scrapyard Lofts (overlooks Padnos site). Wondering what it would take for a developer to build a new shelter/mission elsewhere and develop the old building into Mission Lofts... Progress update on this project:
  22. Not sure what you're talking about as all I see in this picture are those ugly security signs
  23. Progress being made on 212 S. River downtown Holland. Picture is from December, so a bit outdated by now.
  24. Not sure if I ever posted this link before, but there is long (very long) term planning going on to address this. When surveys went out on feedback, evidently many people had the same suggestion as me to do a land swap with the Verplank dock at the end of 8th street with some of the property at the now closed JDY power plant. This would at least cluster the industrial uses and open up some water for more immediate use. https://waterfrontholland.org/
