At least they cleared the encampment that used to be under both bridges, on the eastern side. They also fenced off the area under the Jefferson Street bridge, which was a squalor zone. The homeless encampment further downstream, on the “squiggly”, as we refer to it on Strava, is largely hidden in the bushes. Again, I walk and ride that stretch at least twice a week and rarely see any of the homeless on the trail. They largely keep to themselves and keep their trash off the trail. It’s not as bad as it was a few years ago.

I ride or walk past that spot all the time. On Friday, I noticed that a green metal fence had been erected between the two bridges, where Riley Strait allegedly fell into the river. The fence is only about 15 feet long, though. Hardly a barrier.

It does seem to have improved over the past year, though.

I was thrilled to see that old sign. The aesthetics of this project are superb.

Took a chilly walk through the Neuhoff project this afternoon. Adams Street is now open as a pedestrian mall.

Travel observations and new developments of other cities and countries

Great points. It’s also interesting to consider that 100 years ago New Orleans and Memphis were, respectively, the two largest cities in the South. Miami, Atlanta, Dallas and Houston were only medium-sized cities. https://www.infoplease.com/us/cities/population-20-largest-us-cities-1900-2012 -

Years ago, I remember having drinks at the revolving restaurant atop the Bonaventure in DTLA. In those days the smog was so bad you could barely make out the Hollywood sign.
