I think he may be referring to the bridges mentioned in the article that will be constructed on the future park property. They will doing some environmental cleaning up. I'm not sure. I know the plan, as a whole, is widely regarded by city planners as the benchmark for future development. However, I am unsure to what degree the Waterfront Park part of the plan, has been met with dislike.

I went to a public input planning session at the Convention Center a few months back, and I can assure you, the city planners consult the Sasaki plan daily. I specifically asked about it, and their eyes lit up! I like the plan, personally, although it is a plan, and there will be some modifications done here and there. That park is going to be the crown jewel of the city one day.
  3. Has anyone driven down Knox Abbot near the bridge to see if construction has begun on One Eleven? This will continue the slow gentrification of that area, and improve the gateway for travelers arriving in Cola from the airport.
  4. Thanks for posting. Fred Delk is a great guy and has been at the center of all Vista development since day one.
  5. When will Hughes Development release to the public the names of the retail tenants who have signed leases? I thought a preliminary list was supposed to have already been made public by now. I'm growing impatient. Of course, there are a lot of things in this life I want and want now..but that's another story.
  6. Agreed. This should make the property more valuable, I would imagine.

Yes, the Greene St bridge will really open up the area to more development. It will allow folks to drive from the heart of the university all the way down to the riverfront park, without making a turn.
  8. Looks good! Can't wait to get back up to Greenville to check out the progress.
  9. Wow! Looks good. I've been waiting a long time on some news about this project!

The Cigar Factory in Charleston is slated to open this summer. I looked at the video on Youtube, and the structure is not dissimilar from the vastness of the Palmetto Compress Warehouse. We'll have to keep an eye on it as a potential model for the retail aspect of its redevelopment.
  11. Looks like SC is about to land the first Volvo manufacturing plant in the country!
  12. Build a new arena? Wow! Just..wow!
  13. I saw that, too. I am sure businesses in the Vista would be over the moon about it, but what remains to be seen is whether the university opposes it as competition. I'm guessing the D League season runs concurrent with the actual NBA's, so that really shouldn't draw fans away from any USC sport except potentially baseball..and the baseball team is doing a good enough job of that themselves this season.

This is to be the identical twin to 650 Lincoln? If so, that will really bolster density.
  15. Saw that. I really hope nothing gets built on this property, apart from maybe a nature center (something to help the public access another stretch of our beautiful river system). I really think it is just not suited for all the apartments, strip malls, or whatever else was originally envisioned. It is a great green buffer on the city's southern side, and I think it needs to be preserved in its natural state.

I went to an urban planning session, open to the public recently. I asked about the Sasaki plan. It is still the plan that everything is modeled on. So, take a look at those pictures, and think about what Columbia should look like in about 10 more years..unbelievable!

Just look at the renderings in the Sasaki Associates' plan. You can Google these images. These appear to be around six or seven stories max (probably shorter), so everyone has good sight lines of the river, and the natural beauty of the river isn't overwhelmed by the buildings surrounding it. When this plan came out circa 2009, I saw those pictures, and thought "THAT is where I want to live"!
  18. Good pics! I especially like the up-shot of the CBD.
  19. Lately Columbia has been getting great news on the concert front, which I would like to believe corresponds with its growing stature as a city. Today, it is expected Paul McCartney will announce he is coming to play the CLA this summer! Pretty cool.
  20. WIS News just reported some details on the proposed development on Meeting St in West Columbia. It is to be called "Brookland", and will encompass housing, retail, and walking/biking paths. They said to keep an eye on their website, and that their 11:00 report should have more detail (hopefully some renderings).
  21. A couple of new restaurants will be opening in the Vista soon, to include South Carolina's first "Tin Lizzy's Cantina". It is based in Atlanta where it has several locations, and will probably do well here. It, and a French themed "City Bar and Fondue" will be occupying space in the constantly changing 700-800 block of Gervais (where Tsunami, and the piano bar currently reside). I don't spend much time (well none, really) over there, but they are sprucing things up, and giving it a new name in hopes to draw more foot traffic to that area. The new hotels are spawning new restaurants/bars, or is it the other way around?

    Five Points

    That would be great! Thanks.
