  1. Compare a potential new stadium to Lucas Oil in Indianapolis. They are hosting their 3rd final four in 2021 since 2010. Super Bowl this year. College football title game in 2022. Not too shabby. I do love BOA, and gun to my head would prefer to keep it and keep renovating it until I’m old and gray... but hosting those big events would be huge for Charlotte, so that gets me pretty excited as well. Tax payers are going to be ponying up $$ for the stadium either way, because renovations will always be needed and owners will always want to either upgrade or build new. I think I’ll be happy either way as long as the financing plan is solid and not like Louisville’s basketball arena or Miami Marlins stadium which ballooned to like double or triple what they were supposed to be.
  2. RDF has mentioned some are involved but no specifics. If he knows he probably isn’t at liberty to tell.
  3. Soooo, looks like work on Sharon United Methodist Church is about to begin?
  4. 4th ward is probably my favorite part of the city. That’s a big no from me dawg.
  5. I do too. I’m not architecturally savvy, but I think it will be a great contrast from all the glass going up. And I’m honestly glad that a lot of these building will add or just blend in. A lot of “signature” buildings would look odd. Reminds me of when I played Sim City 3000 when I was a kid and put all of the worlds best skyscrapers together in my downtown. Would look too “artificial” if that makes any sense at all... Street engagement and putting people in uptown>dick measuring skyscrapers for the next decade... even though it sounds like the new Duke may be one of those. But I’m not mad at that either. Dilly dilly.
  6. Panthers aren’t going anywhere for a while. Logistics don’t make sense, and the Chargers failure in LA is a prime example. Panthers are one of the most profitable sports franchises in the world, and they do not have attendance or TV viewership issues like many NFL teams do. NFL owners have to approve the move and the relocation fee alone is ginormous. That doesn’t include buying the team (well over $1 billion), relocation (like $650 million) and potential new stadium at new city ($1 billion +). Getting an ownership group together to buy Richardson’s 48%, then more upgrades for the stadium to last it another 10-15 years is much more feasible.
  7. http://theacc.com/news/2017/11/15/2017-dr-pepper-acc-football-championship-game-sold-out.aspx been sold out for a couple of weeks
  8. For the college football playoff, if both win out and play for the SEC title, both are in the playoff either way. Clemson vs Miami would have far bigger implications.
  9. That’s not contrary to what he said...
  10. I think RDF mentioned something in the works here at one point in time...
  11. The Hurricanes have the worst attendance in the NHL. I'd question putting another pro team in Raleigh.
  12. But he contributes here more than just about anyone, so fudge it.
  13. How bout just don't block the road? I'd argue back and forth about the dangers of protesters blocking the road and how pointless it is as well, but I don't really care about your opinion either way. Don't block the road, don't get hit, no matter what your political beliefs may be.
  14. I've lived in the DMV area, SLC, Phoenix and San Diego as an adult. Charlotte holds its own against all of them. Seattle is easily the least attractive city I've ever visited. Was very surprised.
  15. Maybe with an HB2 repeal this could be back on the table?
  16. https://m.facebook.com/charlottezoologicalpark/?tsid=0.7040814403512948&source=typeahead these people claim Eastland is too small for today's zoos. I disagree. Eastland seems perfect.
  17. They had 750k visitors their last fiscal year. Not great, but it is in the middle of nowhere. Would probably easily clear a million yearly if it had been built in Charlotte or Raleigh instead.
  18. You must be hard to please. I've been to dozens of zoos around the US and I think it's great. Very comparable to Safari Park in Escondido, CA. I've only been when the zoo has been busy.
