  1. Thanks. Getting my bank branches in prime retail locations mixed up.
  2. The old Dean & DeLuca on Tryon?
  3. I know a Charlotte MLS team would/will probably be named Carolina United (which actually makes sense), but I still prefer American-style team names, and I don’t care that soccer fans judge me for it. Carolina Cougars for the win!
  4. Haha. The things urban millennials spend their money on these days. Growing up on farmland in Stanly County, I would pay someone $49 for them to drive a tractor for me. Hearing one crank up when we were kids meant that playtime was over and that it was time to start working.
  5. I’ve always wondered about that space too. Would be a total waste if most/some of it wasn’t designed for retail or an airline lounge. The open area with the rocking chairs and airport model facing the ramp and runway between A and A-North seems wasted to me too. That could have easily been retail/restaurant and would be a good, very visible spot for a pop-up lounge. In addition to a SkyClub on the A-North expansion where Delta will move once complete and an additional Admirals Club on E, I think the current A-North would perfect for a Priority Pass lounge like The Club for travelers without status or an AmEx Platinum card. https://shop.theclubairportlounges.com/
  6. Agreed. CLT is the red-headed stepchild of the AA hubs in terms of facilities. We desperately need an E Concourse Admirals Club at a minimum and should also get a small Flagship Lounge. Once the latter is built at PHL, CLT will be the only AA hub with long haul international flights without one (and without showers in an Admirals Club). Of course the current Admirals Clubs will likely become a lot less busy once the Centurion Lounge opens - for good reason.
  7. I agree that the homeless/addict problem has gotten much worse in the last few years, especially in Forth Ward where I also live. Vandalism and threats of physical violence are increasingly common, and I now avoid parks altogether, even in daylight. I go out of my way to walk down more-traveled streets, and I’m always hyper-vigilant at night. I get aggressively panhandled walking to and from work at least once each way every day, and I’ve lost track of the death threats.
  8. I really wish the parking deck had some sort of decorative screening.
  9. KJ - Are you dropping a hint that you’re also in line to become the next CEO of Wells? Can we expect a new combined HQ of “Doughnuts & Dough” in Charlotte?
  10. Wow. A fancy website with beautiful renderings of buildings that will inevitably be downsized and VE’d until they no longer resemble those renderings isn’t everything, but this is the winning master developer, really? Charlotte doesn’t seem to settle for mediocrity; we encourage it. It’s like city officials enjoy selecting the worst option and then being disappointed with the choice.
  11. Public transit is great in SLC; TRAX trains run frequently, and the entire CBD is a fare-free zone on all fixed routes (light rail and buses).
  12. Thanks for spelling Stanly correctly, KJ. As an Albemarle native, it drives me crazy when people spell it ‘Stanley’. Also, this was the worst kept secret in Stanly County. Everyone I talked to seemed to know the move was happening. A number of senior CP&F folks live in the Locust area.
  13. Agreed. My Uptown condo is just over 600 SF, and it’s considerably more space than I need. If I didn’t own my place, I’d be the first one in line to sign a lease for a well-located, affordable (without all the bells and whistles you don’t need living in the middle of a city) micro apartment.
  14. Not a drive in and way off topic, but the best burger in ATL is the Ghetto Burger at Ann’s Snack Bar. Makes a burger from The Varsity look like a benchwarmer on the JV squad.
  15. Only 2,000? I would have guessed it was closer to 200,000.
  16. When did the Phase II expansion get reduced to 10 gates? The Destination CLT page still lists it as 16 gates. Looks like the third pier won’t be a part of the expansion if that’s the case. Airport improvement projects change so often that it’s hard to keep up.
  17. I called this as soon as the Peebles-led proposal was selected. He isn’t building anything in Charlotte other than our hopes and his TV resume through appearances on FOX during the 2020 RNC. All talk, no game according to people in the know.
  18. IMO, it depends on the execution. As a huge fan of chiccehtti and tapas/pinchos bars in Italy and Spain, respectively, I would love more places in Charlotte where I can post up at a bar for a couple of hours and leisurely order one snack at a time while I enjoy a few drinks. If only you could get a full belly and a decent buzz for 10 Euros like you can at these types of bars all over both countries!
  19. Things must have changed since the mid-2000s, or else earning a degree from Miami is a lot more difficult. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed all South Florida had to offer, but school was a full-time job, and you were expected to be prepared to discuss takeaways from the previous class at the next class; no showing up just to listen to a lecture. With homework, readings, individual and group projects, quizzes, midterms and finals, plus extracurricular and volunteer activities, I easily had a 60-hour “work” week every semester. Edit: Finance was also one of my majors, and other students always reminded us that we had it easy in the business schoool.
  20. ^ No way that’s going to happen. Could you imagine the logistical nightmare that combining the operations of three large regional banks would be if the deals could even get approved? Two years down the road once BB&T and SunTrust are integrated, sure. I don’t expect the new company to be on the sidelines long; they want to play ball with the big boys. There will be plenty of opportunities to create a coast-to-coast mega bank once other large regionals start combining. Let’s just hope the HQ remains in the QC.
  21. Not Elizabeth-specific, but I think something like the Wroclaw, Poland (one of our sister cities) dwarfs would be cool here, only with mini Queen Charlotte statues, of course. Many of these are paid for by businesses in order to generate more foot traffic. Win-win. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrocław's_dwarfs
  22. Agreed. Football is meant to be played outdoors. And the beer tastes better when it’s there to cool you down or warm you up.
