  1. Per Ely's article in the Observer (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/development/article29184550.html): Dan Shoemaker, executive director of the Actor’s Theatre, said the group’s lease runs through next June. The Actor’s Theatre is searching for more space in uptown and South End, Shoemaker said. “Even before we were aware of the sale of the building, we were looking for larger space,” he said. “This has just kind of sped up that process.”
  2. The underutilized Booth Playhouse on the second level of Founder's Hall behind the Belk Theatre which was built for the defunct Charlotte Repertory Theatre (also Charlotte's only Equity theatre group at the time) could also be an option, at least until a permanent dedicated space is found or constructed. ATC would probably prefer a more intimate space, especially one that can be reconfigured to accommodate different seating arrangements, and I'm not sure they would want to rent space from BPAC long-term, but the Booth does at least have a large enough stage and enough room backstage for ATC's productions, something venues like the McGlohon Theatre and Duke Energy Theatre at Spirit Square and the old CAST space in NoDa do not. Ideally, I would love to see an old building re-purposed as I think that fits ATC's mission of staging "bold and innovative works" by up-and-coming playwrights much better than a new theater Uptown.
  3. I agree that very few, if any, locals fly to Myrtle Beach instead of driving. The press release stated that continuing service is offered to Beckley, WV, so I assume ViaAir is just utilizing an aircraft that would otherwise be sitting on the ground in CLT waiting to return to BKW to shuttle some of the BKW-originating passengers to and from MYR. So it's essentially a BKW-MYR flight with a stop in CLT.
  4. ViaAir which currently flies to Beckley, WV and St. Augustine, FL from CLT is adding twice-weekly seasonal flights to Myrtle Beach. As with their St. Augustine service, they appear to be testing the market for a very short time. While not a new or exciting destination (and one that may not be around very long), it's always nice to see any carrier expanding at and adding destinations from CLT. http://blog.flyviaair.com/viaair-is-going-to-myrtle-beach/
  5. This is probably a dumb question, but are all the buildings on this block going to be torn down, or just the Common Market building? I guess it was just a matter of time before this block got redeveloped, but it sure is a shame to lose buildings and businesses that give the neighborhood character because they are not the 'highest and best' uses of the land.
  6. Insel Air's flights are Saturdays only as well and operate year-round. They had an interline agreement with US Airways, but I'm not sure if that remained in place after the merger. Flights are still bookable on Insel Air past the start date for the new AA flight, so we may have two carriers flying CLT-CUR.
  7. Beat me to it. The Saturday-only flights (both on A319s) start in mid-December. They are bookable through early June of next year which is as far out as the schedule currently goes. Great to see new international service added from CLT, even if it is to secondary Caribbean destinations. I think this further proves CLT's value as a low-cost connecting hub for AA and hopefully will quiet some of the naysayers who constantly talk about how most of CLT's Caribbean routes will be transferred to MIA.
  8. Flamin' Crawfish, the odd Vietnamese/Cajun concept in the old Nom Nom Burgers spot at Park Towne Village, has closed as of the end of May. Never ate there, so I can't personally comment on the food. http://charlotterestauranttraffic.com/news/flamin-crawfish-flames-out-in-myers-park/#.VXmW60Zp63Y
  9. Hi Everyone, (Very) long time lurker and (finally) first time poster. Yes, the guys behind SILVERFLY in the Met who are friends of mine opened a second location, SILVERFLY Sport, in the side of the old brief/shu space closest to S. Tryon. I went to the grand opening party Saturday afternoon. This location will focus on more casual 'lifestyle and athleisure' apparel for men. The South End Chic boutique referenced in Jayvee's post above is actually inside this space as well. The owner was there Saturday too, but she had not yet stocked any merchandise in her section of the space (which is an elevated platform in one corner). Clothing boutiques, especially ones with a limited selection focusing on a specific demographic, are tough to make work, but I wish them the best! Cheers!
