I really love how this one has turned out, it seems like more parking garages should try to embrace their wall space with art like this rather than attempting to create some sort of cheaply patterned facade that usually just ends up being an eyesore.

I haven't managed to get a pic, but the exterior is now (finally) complete on this one, and it looks really great! Textured and provides a subtle pop of color in the skyline.

We seemingly did not get it, Central region was just announced and Nashville was not among them. Winners included- Kansas City Atlanta Dallas Houston Monterrey Mexico City

I think that the new stadium will be central to us receiving a bid, and I think it's possibly one of the reasons that Titans ownership has shifted in that direction. In short, yes, I do think we're in.

I certainly agree that this would be a bad turn of events that would reflect really poorly on Titans' leadership, but this is also a bit of a far conclusion to leap to based on one quote from an article. Something to keep an eye on for sure, but probably not the time for pitchforks yet either.

I really tend to agree. Whenever I try to imagine an alternate timeline where Signature Tower was built at the originally-planned height, I just have to imagine that our downtown would look super different and likely less dense than it does now. It would have been a beauty, but I don't know if many cities could have realistically supported that development during and even after the recession.

Great memory! Not only was it featured in the opening hype video, but I also remember there was an image of the tower wrapped on one of the tall columns inside of the bowl, showing the full design in all of its glory from top-to-bottom. It was dramatic in a cool way, and it reflected how Signature Tower was the talk of the town for a while. It's hard to imagine marketing for a building like that today for a lot of reasons, but it was super exciting.

Tough to totally judge just from a diagram, but as far as the typical parking pedestal midrise hotel design goes, this looks like one of the nicer ones in my opinion. The materials look more visually interesting than stucco or paneling, which is what usually drags these sort of developments down in the end. Is it a bit underwhelming for downtown's first Marriott? Perhaps, but I don't think this project deserves some of the scrutiny and "suburban" complaints that its gotten in this thread. If the diagrams translate to reality, than this will be very high quality infill where a parking lot once stood.

These diagrams look to be different than the rendering posted above, does anybody know which is more up to date?

Just a perfect development really, with equal attention being paid to both the ground level and the designs of the towers themselves. Not to mention, revitalizing historic structures when possible and integrating them seamlessly. I love it.

I just think that the majority of investors are no longer willing to sink money into something that ultimately serves no concrete purpose to them or the tenants of a building. In general, I feel that far more developers are strictly opportunists looking to value engineer at all costs just to get their foot in the door so they can then sell the cheap construction back to other investors and then it's not even their problem anymore. Even the more elegant proposals that we are getting now (One22One, Pinnacle in Nashville Yards, 800 Lea & 1000 Church) focus more on texture and facade effect that anything much in regard to the silhouette at the top.

These awesome pics don't even show the newest addition to the building- a blue repeating chevron pattern covering the garage on the side fronting Ash St. Seriously, I wish that I could have captured a pic from my car while I was driving, but trust me when I tell you that it looks bizarre. Overall, I've noticed that these Broadstone buildings are always really close to being attractive, but usually end up ruining it with bad paint jobs and questionable finishing touches. The cool grey of the facade totally clashes with the nice brickwork on the bottom floors, the black rail feaux-balconies stick out like crazy, and each face of the building is so disjointed from the other. It could be worse (like Haven), but this one has shaped up to be super disappointing.

The stadium design itself really looks like Geodis Park with a roof on top. It's still just a rough preliminary rendering I know, but interesting nonetheless. Some of the building massing around the stadium looks a bit taller than I was even expecting, so that's a plus at least.

This will be the biggest test, and it's something that I foresee being a struggle with this site for a while. It can be a bit congested when the flea market is happening, and that doesn't have 30,000 people going in/out all at once. Not to mention that even more than just parking and stadium access, I still really think that all of the rail crossings nearby could potentially create disaster if one of the trains stops and blocks the road for extended amounts of time, which does still happen occasionally. If you are even relatively close enough to where you can walk or bike to the stadium, I'd definitely recommend it.

We're really just using "box" to describe literally any building design at this point, aren't we? Also, just to reiterate a point that should be remembered- the overwhelming majority of buildings in all cities are boxes.

Does anybody know if something may be happening at the large empty lot on the corner of 2nd Ave & Hart St? The site had become a bit overgrown with weeds through the fall and winter months, but has been recently cleared and some kind of erosion barrier has been installed on the side close to the church.

I'm really hoping that a supposed new footprint can help the new design's back-side look less like...a back-side. The weird duality of this tower's facades is just a bit too jarring in this initial draft. 600 feet is great, but 400-500 with a less compromised look is even better IMO

Haven at The Gulch, 11 stories, 299 apts, $100 million
henburg replied to markhollin's topic in Nashville
To salvage anything about this building's aesthetics, I really think that it would take some significant creativity. Maybe commission a muralist with some serious $$$ and just cover up every side's uninspired pastels with some vibrant street art. At the very least, it would distract from how flat the building is.- 357 replies

I agree with you on most things, but this reportedly isn't true. Even when looking past the strictly superficial fan experience things (which are really bad), it's the logistics and structure of the building that are reportedly driving this new stadium talk. Things like the plumbing and wiring are drastically out of date and will be requiring significant upgrades to keep them functional, and from what I've heard, it's essentially because Titans ownership failed to maintain/upgrade the stadium in any way for years. Luckily, it seems that Amy Adams Strunk has turned things around in regards to being a hands-on and actually caring presence for the team, but that doesn't change the fact that she inherited a building that was pretty bare-bones even when it was completed.

This one is going to lap so many other buildings in construction around it, it's wild! Not to mention it's on a very small site surrounded by roads and the design is unconventional. I'm very impressed so far.- 827 replies
