  1. Wow, this sounds truly exciting, and it may shed some light on what that Metro Planning woman said at the Civic Design Center Forum. I hope that the designs are made public soon.
  2. Both of the new designs for 505 are great, and if it increases the chances of something being built, I'm all for it. On the other hand, the Terra Verde news is very perplexing. Does this mean that the 30-story Westin is scrapped? It just seems really abrupt.
  3. Hmm it looks pretty good, but Ill reserve judgement until we see a proper rendering. It needs a crown/spire, maybe something like L&C Tower.
  4. Interesting, if the designs are anything like the original than they should be stunning. I know that everyone is frustrated by the lack of actual construction, but I really admire Tony's ambition and vision. He seems very determined to get an iconic building up on this site, and I think that he will succeed.
  5. What's the source on this, are there any renderings or addditonal info? I cant find anything on it.
  6. Whoops, my mistake, I guess I'm just really excited for that one!
  7. Is that quote by Tony a good or bad sign for the SoBro tower?
  8. Exactly, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and the New York Cosmos did this as well, and I think that soccer could be a great fit in Nashville. Believe it or not, soccer is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, growing sport in America with the MLS gaining 5 expansion teams in the last three years alone, and more are still on the way. Plus, Nashville has had a good history of supporting the sport with the US Soccer exhibition games held at LP Field and the fact that up until they folded last year, the Metros were the longest continuously running team in the USL. Not to mention that currently there are no MLS teams in the Southeast and Nashville could take advantage of a completely ignored market. This couldn't happen immediately of course, but if a stadium is built at this site and the team can gain enough support in a league like the NASL or the USL, then I think that this could be a very viable option for Nashville down the road.
  9. I really like the idea of a soccer stadium, maybe we can bring the Metros back in the new NASL and finally give them a proper home.
  10. Regardless I'm really excited for this project, and judging by the architect's website, we could be in for a very nice design.
  11. Although the idea of getting an MLB team is very appealing, I'm not sure I would want them in a expanded Minor League Stadium, especially one with such a relatively low budget. However, I am a huge fan of the site and I hope that this can really get the North Capitol area rolling. It's been such an ignored area recently minus Germantown. As a bonus, here's a photo of the Memphis Houndogs proposal for those curious, complete with Elvis hair! -
  12. I agree, L&C is one of my favorite buildings in downtown, I really like the style of architecture. I'm also a fan of the UMPH, but I wouldn't consider it too architecturally important to Nashville. Although some of the suggestions posted here to save the building sound great, it's really just wishful thinking, and not realistic to what is most likely going to happen. It's not that I dislike the building, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if it were torn down, especially if it made way for a nice mixed-use development.
  13. I really like the sound of both of those, but the one in Rutledge Hill particularly would have such a great effect on the area, hopefully they can get them both built.
  14. About much extra height would about an extra 10 stories give this project?
  15. They were changing construction companies, apparently due to a sudden rise in costs, but they should be starting again very soon. The two structures currently there are the parking garages, but once work starts again, it should rise fairly quickly.
  16. That's a really intriguing project, I can't wait to see their plans.
  17. That skyline view from Cumberland Park has become one of my favorites in the city, just beautiful.
  18. On a related note, does anybody have an idea of when we will hear some news about the art going in the roundabout?
  19. Wow those are breathtaking! Thanks for posting. Also, does anybody know what that thing extending over the street is?
  20. I know you prefer classic-style buildings, but do you really dislike it that much? In my opinion, it's a pretty nice modern apartment building, and the renderings themselves are very high quality.
  21. Wow, I really like this one! This will be a great addition to the city. Thanks for the pictures barakat.
  22. This proposal has actually grown on me a lot, and it looks pretty good based on those renderings. Sure, I would prefer to have it all look more like the hotel portion, but overall, I can't really complain.
  23. Haha, that was exactly my reaction when I first heard about the group, especially because the "Downtown" Brentwood area is currently mostly made up of rotting strip malls and gas stations.
  24. Hey guys! I'm new here, but I've been a lurker for a while now.. I also have an account on skyscraperpage where I post a lot, but there is a lot more activity and in-depth discussion on this site, so I decided to join. Now, onto the subject at hand, which is definitely horrible news. I'm actually currently a student living in Brentwood, and I have a personal connection to a certain Brentwood City commissioner, so its been a long process watching this one go through the planning stages. When first proposed, I was ecstatic for this project, as with Streets of Brentwood and Tapestry, it seemed that the town center development was finally beginning to take off. At first, it seemed that this would pass through the approval process with little to no problems, but as you could see, that proved to be far from the truth. This entire process has truly brought out the worst in Brentwood, mainly from the "Preserve Brentwood" group. They took many measures to ensure that they would do whatever it took to make sure this project would fail, including posting flyers around town comparing the square footage of the development to that of the Music City Center (which is completely ridiculous and off-base) and hosting rallies where they would claim that this project would make Brentwood "The New Antioch". It was actually a surprise when HG Hill said that they were pulling the project, because the commission was willing and eager to work with them in order to modify the plans so that they would take into account some suggestions from the citizens. It really sucks that this project had to be cancelled, especially for those like me, who supported this project. I feel that if more Brentwood citizens were educated on all of the benefits of urban development rather than negative propaganda put out by a group that represents a very small portion of the population, projects like this would have much less trouble getting approved.
