There's a big project planned for the parking lot next to the theater - $55,000,000. I think it's a hotel but not sure. The ownership that is listed is a hotel group.

So New Jersey gave them $40 million in incentives back in 2015 to stay put and they moved anyway. Big companies are playing musical chairs with cities and will keep coming back for more $ to stay put. I would not be shocked if they are only here for 10 years or so before another city tries to lures them away. I'm not sour on this obviously, but hate to see how large companies are behaving like sports teams these days.

Square at South End - Mixed Use Project @ West and Tryon

It's neat. The second image looks like a cotton mill landed on an office building. -
EIFS or hard coat stucco but my guess is EIFS.

Legacy Union (former Charlotte Observer redevelopment)

Yes, the 412k is correct. 17 stories, about 300'. Maybe the 44 story tower is something entirely different. -
Norwegian has set up shop in a lot of smaller east coast airports like Stewart in NY, Hartford and Providence. They really need a mid atlantic/southeast airport but CLT probably doesn't fit the mold. I could see them in Richmond or Greensboro. They have a pretty big footprint in europe.

I think basic economy is a joke. Flying on a traditional carrier that charges mostly market rate fares and then telling people they can't have a carry on is silly. The restrictions on carry ons are what you see from low cost carriers. People expect to be nickel and dimed at Frontier or Spirit. We fly Frontier from Charlotte all the time and are perfectly fine with their a la carte approach.

They should add a rest area with bathrooms around level 5 for the post game crowd seeing as it may take an hour to get out of it. -
The newest plans show 26 occupied floors with a 27th mechanical floor where the screen is on the roof. About 388' to the top of the screen from what I can see.

I know how to use google flights, thanks. Look, it has been a constant fact that CLT has some of the highest airfares in the country and there's no debating that fact. There's no need to defend AA here. They know they don't have much competition here. If you get behind the paywall this is an excellent article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/why-an-american-airlines-monopoly-works-for-charlotte-1519225740

If you're a leisure traveller paying for yourself and a family those direct flights don't matter when they are market up 2-3x what they are elsewhere. AA conveniently screws over locals here. If you're a business traveller, the service is excellent and the company is picking up the bill so who cares what the flight cost is. I'm glad to see low cost airlines coming in and offering competition.
-
The biggest insult is finding a way cheaper fare somewhere else on the east coast and then being connected through CLT to get to your destination. I've seen $400 fare specials to europe with CLT connection that were over $1,000 originating from here. AA is just screwing this city on airfare due to lack of competition.

I think it just went from 31 to 32 floors.

A Duke employee told me last week that Duke plans to move out of the current headquarters and eventually demolish the power building or whatever the old headquarters is called. He made no mention of height but it sounds like a consolidation to one big headquarters building. Considering egos, why would Duke move into a shorter, less iconic building than their current leased headquarters?

Pretty sure its 33 floors of office with a mechanical level. I guess the top of the mechanical level where the pyramid begins could be considered 35 floors in height. -
The benches look kinda like a backyard DIY network project using pallets.

15 story residential in permitting somewhere on Ballantyne Corp. Place. Would this be the tallest residential tower outside of downtown/southend?

The only Super Bowl I care about is one that the Panthers are playing in. Simply hosting it would be bittersweet.

It would be interesting to compare the economic impact of the Panthers and what the subsidy would be and then look at the 1.6 billion we offered Toyota. I hate to admit it, but both are big businesses trying to leverage public dollars. The common sense aspect of this is that the stadium IS perfectly capable of hosting an NFL team 10 times a year and can be renovated to add more luxuries.

I would love for KK to stay in Winston but now that they are just part of a holding company it's no longer about hometown roots for them.

First Ward Urban Village / North Tryon Vision Plan
49er replied to uptownliving's topic in Charlotte
It could end up just being a big ugly parking deck for the next decade. I would not be shocked at all. -
I'm white and wear hats and athletic shoes all the time. I've been told to take my hat off due to a dress code. Everybody wears these basic accessories. The place is upscale so everyone should aim to dress accordingly.

It's in permitting - 383' I think.

What if Mast General Store was planning to occupy the old brick building - would those that are in favor of demolition feel differently then? It has a nice human scale that is missing with all of the highrises we have. Smaller buildings like this that are adaptable for a variety of uses are almost nonexistent inside the loop . I wonder if the interior has any of the old floorboards or character left or was it completely sanitized during its 1980's renovation.

By around 2025 or 2026, the first stop light you'll meet coming from downtown will be at Waxhaw Indian Trail/Indian Trail Fairview in Union County. The whole stretch of 74 through Meck and past Stallings Road will be right in/right out only as it is currently where the road is completed. Construction should begin around 2021 since this is a funded project. The project website has some good info and maps showing where all the interchanges, grade separations and new roadways will be built. https://www.ncdot.gov/projects/U-2509/ https://www.ncdot.gov/projects/U-2509/download/AerialMap1.pdf
